All-time favorite: Dennis Richmond. He seemed like a national anchor here in the Bay Area all those years
All-time worst: Brian Sussman, KSFO morning show host and hate/ignorance warmer upper. There is no way this disgusting moron should be on the airwaves let alone everyday for several hours. I can feel my IQ slipping away just thinking about him.
My least favorite is Rabbi Daniel Lapin, his ”oh shucks, by golly” persona tries to disguise a very vile, nasty ideology. He was particularly disgusting this past weekend when he returned from several weeks off. My favorite Michael Krasny, what a treat! Intelligent conversation, questions and topics. He lets guests answer questions without interrupting or giving us his own opinions. Yesterday's topic for example: The French and love. It was great and very interesting.
I'm not sure who my favorite is, but I can definitely tell you who my LEAST favorite is: Papa-backstabber Bob Fitzgerald. Is there any media person in the Bay Area who engenders more hatred than this creep? From the disrespectful way he treats callers who interact on his lousy show, to the constant spin job of the Warriors and their legacy of failure, I am blown away that the guy is still employed in this -- or ANY -- media market. And I won't even get in to the circumstantial evidence which points to his anonymous postings on Warriors fan sites, which is so undignified that I'm actually embarrassed for the guy.
Have to agree on Fitzgerald. If Notre Dame is turning out guys with his weasily character it must not be the university it proclaims to be. At the same time, it's kind of sad because for as long as Fitz has been with the organization, you never think of him when you think of the Warriors. Fitz will be forgotten the day he leaves, and its hard to take the Warriors seriously as an organization until they dump him. Sorry.
The hateful rabbi is on at 5am Sundays only. Avoid his unholy show at all costs! One day a week of that fool is more than enough. Sussman and the dirty rabbi on a show together would be like nuclear waste for the ears.
YEP Karel is an embarrassment crying over his ex lover who died years and years ago and talking about his money problems and his dogs. I bet he leaches so much money off some of his listeners. He is a disgrace to radio, no talent. And his live shows are dismall.
Individuals: Best: I've got to go with Dana King (KPIX). Year-in and year-out she brings it. Worst: Dave Clark (KTVU). He has single-handedly brought down a local institution (Mornings on 2)
News Team: Best: KGO. Overall, their roster of reporters and anchors are the most professional and likable in the market. Worst: KRON. No explanation needed.
Ronn Owens - he is bright, articulate and acknowledges both sides of an issue. Hope he'll stay somewhere in the area - would hate to lose him as I would have no clue where to go next on radio. He seems to be one of a kind in this area.
Easy , favorite has to be Ame Daetz great reporter and even greater to look at. Least favorite by a long margin has to be the Warriors stooge and mouthpiece Bob Fatty Fitzgerald aka Giggles, Rudy, Fatzgerald and world class ass kisser. He has to be the most dislike local broadcaster ever.
Not a beauty contest? says who? Rich? It's a list of favorites and least favorites. Sometimes you just want to see a pretty face on TV. Ask a news director... *shrugs*
FAVORITE: Dan Ashley (KGO), Justine Waldman (KRON), Jacqueline Bennett (KRON), Ken Wayne (KRON), Fred Inglis (KTVU), Joe Fonzi (KTVU), Vikki Livviakis (KRON), James Fletcher (KRON). KCBS morning news crew. All personable, they look at you when they talk to you, believable.
LEAST FAVORITE: Easy, most of the talking braindead on KNBR -- particularly Bobby Fitzgerald (he or his family knows where the bodies are buried -- that's probably why he got the gig. He hasn't been liked anywhere he's been...and that goes back to when he called games in the CBA), Gary "It's All About Me" Radnich (being the Town Clown doesn't work, unless you have an IQ of below 100). Seems like a lot of folks who've replied feel the same way. Alas, the sporting zombies who listen to KNBR take them as gospel. They believe in Bony Rodney Brooks and the rest. So sad.
It's hilarious how much venom there is here for the KNBR sports show guys. Has anyone ever tuned in to sports radio anywhere else in this country and heard what garbage there is? There are guys I like less than others (Damon is clearly the class of the group, and yeah, Fitz is pretty weak), but on balance I think this is a great place for a sports fan to live and tune in.
Yeah, Benny Boy. I've heard other sports talk stations. In fact, it's all garbage. The sad part is listeners take these fools as gospel. Damon Bruce does rank above the morass, and that's not through process of elimination or because the least of the bad rises to the top. He's solid. I'd also rather listen to the yaks on 95.7 compared to the KNBR shrills who "work" for the Giants, Warriors and 49ers (in other words, whoever they carry). Everything is an event to them. If someone says Colin Kaepernick isn't regular, they'll blab about that all day and make it important.
I sort of go by "who lies the most and defends the power structure?" Fitz "Duddy Fitzgerald" Brooks..bi polar. With Bob,I will kill you, without Bob around? "C'mon over for ribs"... Radnich-and he cant just know you..you HAVE to love him or be the enemy. So,he manipulates too. Laura Anthony. Burned out special ed teacher who couldn't care less. Savage..when I used to listen. Anybody see any change?..hee. Any Comcast host who isn't Papa. "Please,I NEED this job"..makes for uncomfortable watching. CW Nevius.."Lets see what homeless mentally ill person I can out as a waste of money" "Better dead then put the city in red".."Hey,Stanley Roberts-this is MY bit your stealing". Pam Moore..you think she cares about ANYTHING?..I dont. She has been here a long time..and made no impact at all. No Pam Moore investigates..Its read and go home. Her opinions? a smile. I know, she' sort of a "dont touch" local celeb. But I have my feelings about those so long here..who haven't done a thing. And that's for starters...
Mike Krukow's anger is a real turnoff. I'm positive if you tease him in a restaurant, you will be soon found with "blunt force trauma". For somebody booed as a player..he' sure thin skinned. Vern Glenn. Its weird that he's got more of Radnich in him then his own father. I could figure out why..but its not the point. Like I say..drop the Raddy sayings that are mostly not true,Vern. The new guy who defends Harbaugh all the time?..And it seems like now..when he hosts,no Harbaugh critics are then on the show. It doubles up the boredom of talking 49er football. Who do I like?..a few. But if the no likes left tomorrow..wouldn't miss them at all. And one last...I hate the 3 hours of near mindless smiling that the Raddy show does between the three hosts. When a Comcast intern director doesn't cut the camera on a break? The three are as sullen in looks as can be. What do they think they are, demented children's show hosts?. More later..
And what a crock that Radnich says he loves Larry, and his so grateful to his man. No sooner was Bunghole fired then Raddy showed his love by renaming the show to make sure Larry wasn't an equal partner. Raddy also wins biggest phony in media. What he's got hidden in storage lockers, from the 70's,I shudder to think..hee.You never know!
For Sports: Greg Papa, Ted Robinson, Jon Miller, Kruk and Kuip and Ken Korach. Yes, they're all play by play guys, but they have to blend some personality into their work or they don't get much positive reaction.
For local news and commentary: Michael Krasny, Ken Bastida, Mike Sugarman, Tom Sinkovitz (when he was still working) and Julie Haener among others.
I will refrain from naming the worst because I think that anyone who is fortunate enough to be on the air in the bay area must be fairly competent with the possible exceptions of Karel and Sussman and Fitz who are all unlistenable.
Big time local cheese ball has to be Tony Kovaleski from NBC Bay Area "Investigative Unit."
His promos are a riot and make me laugh every time. Cosmetic sincerity, suspenders, and a 1960's haircut don't make him a crusading investigative reporter. So phoney it's almost satire.
The best: Dean Edell (knowledge and objectivity), Len Tillem (great fun and public service), Gene Burns (entertaining even when wrong), and the late Pete Wilson (a most engaging radio host).
The handicapped: the staff at KTVU -- the station's hyperbolic treatment of every protest or complaint against the cops (which has done much to aggravate protester conduct and public distrust of the police) saddles the station's considerable on-air talent with the task of practicing the worst kind of journalism.
The demented: Ronn Owens -- has considerable talent, but his hardline, Israel-first mentality is inexcusable and un-American.
The intolerable: Karel -- too much venom and drama for public consumption. Off with her head!
Still haven't found anyone that rises to the level of Gene Burns. He was great! I loved the way he would take a position on a topic that when you first heard the topic you would say "I disagree!" He would then present it in a way that by the end he would have you thinking "I can see his point!" I know he loved to take an unpopular position for that purpose.
John Rothman is good! Easy to listen to and very respectful of people who he disagrees with. No one better when it comes to political discussions. Gil Gross, and Ted Robinson also desrve mention.
Hate to pile on people but I do not enjoy Fitz and Brooks. They seem to lecture callers much of the time. Real smart people are intelligent enough to be able to deliver their message in a way that is not condescending. Ted Robinson does this well when he unfrequently fills in on KNBR.
If this is a "great place for a sports fan to live and tune in" to, sports radio across the US must really suck. And here I thought KNBR was pretty sad, Damon excluded.
The worst in my opinion is Dan Noyes (sp?). My favorites are the KGO-TV anchor teams and most of their field reporters. I also really liked the pre Disney field reporters and miss their great reporting abilities.
Best-Carolyn Johnson and Ann Notarangelo both just read the news without any hype to it.
Worst -Rod Brooks How he remained on the air for the long is a mystery. Is it because of his race? His constant laughing and otherwise lack of knowledge and use of english lanquage is horriable. Wish he would disappear and BOB F would go solo might even be listenable.
Although Christine is not one of my favorites, I would hardly call her angry. Frankly as the best of the best disappear from talk radio, Christine is moving up the ladder. The woman is intelligent, well-informed, has strong opinions and are willing to take some unpopular stands. But too angry, give me a break, is Michael Savage or Mark Levin too angry? The certainly yell a lot, which I have never heard Christine do.
Both my Favorites & Least Favorite happen to work at KTVU.
Favorites-Rita Williams(far and away the Best TV News Reporter-will miss her when she retires in a few months) Tom Vacar and John Fowler.
Least Favorite-by a Landslide- San Francisco based David Stevenson( currently far and away the Worst Bay Area TV News Reporter). Whenever Stevenson does a Live Report on the 5 or 6pm newscast he is stiff, nervous & uncomfortable, frequently talking too quickly which makes him often stammer or repeat words. It is easy for a TV News Reporter to sound great when doing a pre-recorded report but what separates the great ones from the poor ones is sounding great actually live on the air. Stevenson has been KTVU's lead San Francisco based Reporter since 2005 but still sounds like a nervous, unpolished rookie.
As you can see, there's a trend here. Everyone hoots on Bobby Fitzgerald, the spoiled pretentious stuck-up know-nothing. For good reason, BTW. He comes off as a snobby know-it-all. Not only does he give that impression to his audience, but to others who've known him over the years. That's the wrong business plan for success. That's no way to make friends in an industry where it pays to be connected. He's also queer for Notre Dame. Well, yet another reason to hate the Golden Dome. The common braindead KNBR listener may not notice or may not care. That's a shame. You want someone who talks TO YOU, not at you. Some announcers sound like announcers but you can tell if they're being personable. He still is employed because he knows how to cover his tracks and kiss the right ass. Someday, his day will come. It always does for people like him.
Fitz is unbearable. His endless Warrior excuses have become ridiculous and his Notre Dame worship in nauseating. Brooks may be even more annoying with his affected hipster banter.
Not sure if together they are worse than the sum of their parts or merely equally awful.
Favorite: Don Knapp, Phil Matier, Mike Sugarman, Sherry Hu (when she was on the air) Anna Duckworth --These folks are the real deal; smart, talented, kind, no big egos.
Least Favorite: Dave Clark, Dana King (when she has to ad-lib something), NBC Bay Area's "investigative Unit," KRON's "people behaving badly" reporter.
I know the team is bad but the guys that do the Raiders pregame and postgame are really good. Mike Lamb, Jason Ross, George Atkinson, Bill Romanowksi and David Humms all are good on the air for a bad team.
I'm not saying KNBR is great (or even good, at this point), but spend a few years in a secondary market town like San Diego and you'll come to appreciate "The Leader" (or even 95.7) a little more. Blowharded, minor-league, arrogant doofus Ted Leitner, a local institution down there, would warrant his own blog up here and make smarmy, weaselly Fitz look like Red Barber.
It's all relative, I suppose. About the only good thing San Diego ever had going for them was Jerry Coleman.
Favorite, past: Dennis Richmond -- A true professional all the way. And the partnership with Elaine Corrall (sp?) was perfect.
Favorites, current: Steve Paulson and Bill Martin -- Both of them are true meteorologists. I like that KTVU lets them each do their own forecasting. It is very entertaining when they disagree. Informal poll at our place is that, when they disagree, Steve is correct more often than Bill.
Least favorite, past: Pete Giddings -- what an egotistical guy, who always hyped the weather much more than necessary. "We're gonna get clobbered!" was his favorite expression.
Least favorite, current: Dave Clark, or "Doofus Dave" as we refer to him around our place. He truly makes KTVU unwatchable in the morning. We turn it on at 5:16AM and off at 5:22AM, just to see Steve Paulson and not have to deal with Dave.
Michael Krazy would be #1 by a significant margin. He has a knack to know what topic is interesting and what isn't, and delivers up experts on both sides of many of the most important issues so they can go after each other, and he makes plenty of time for them to respond to listener comments too. That method is much better than allowing a one sided lecture to occur by a guest, with few or no listener comments, which is what happens on many of the commercial radio talk shows these days in the bay area market.
Who's next for me?: Well, after last year's KGO shakeup, here's where my ears are weekdays:
* 7am-1pm, KQED for Morning Edition, Forum, and Talk of the Nation * 1pm-4:30 pm, 960 AM for Randi Rhodes and Norman Goldman * 4:30pm - 6 pm, KQED for Marketplace and All Things Considered * 7pm-midnight, 960AM for Stephani Miller and the host who follows at 10 pm.
Weekends:
* 10 am - noon, KQED for Car Talk and Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me * Afternoons-evenings, KGO for Consumer Help, Pat Thurston, & Karel.
Podcasts:
I search through some podcast files of interest once a week, listen to maybe 3 or 4 in a week of these, from among
* Ronn Owens@KGO, Gil Gross@910AM, John Rothman@910AM, and Bob Brinker@560AM.
I used to listen to Ron Owens show live, Ronn used to be very good, but with the new producer he has, the Owen's show content and which lister comments are allowed to air are so filtered by the producer that it's become too boring, and the show segments are too short and the content is mostly pablum. A good example of the filtering is the Owen's pre-election show on Prop 30. If you go back and listen to that segment, you'll hear pretty much only prop 30 opponents, which the election showed doesn't represent the audience. But Ronn still some interesting guests so I search through his podcasts for those segments.
Favorite: Matt Elmore, the voice of KQED. His familiar presence at both the radio and TV stations make him like family. He is the consummate broadcast professional. In face, IMHO, Elmore and Stan Burford are true broadcast legends.
The worst: That Folsom girl on Channel 4: She cackles. The new weather guy on Channel 5: (yawn) move Roberta?why The doofus calling himself an investigator on Channel 11. Ken Wayne: even more boring than Dave Clark.
The Best: Dana King: when she's not grey Bob Redell: the guy can tell a good story about anything John Fowler: science made easy. Carolyn Johnson: Just easy to watch and easy to believe. Jade Hernandez: hottest latina on tv around here, and always well put together. Bill Martin: you can tell he likes weather.
Wow I think we have a winner on who is the most dislike personality in the Bay Area by a long shot . Congrats Bobby Fitzgerald you are the Chump I mean Champ. Warriors please wake up and lIsten to your Fan base and get rid of this Fat Clown once and for all.
Favorites: Mark Curtis (I miss that guy) and Phil Matier; for sports, Jon Miller, Greg Papa, Ted Robinson--all pros. Ray Ratto, Jim Kozimor, and Mitch Juricich are hilarious.
Worst: Bernie Ward and the insufferable Ralph Barbieri.
Nothing personal, but i just don't care for Dave Clark's delivery of the news...I swear this dude can hit octaves that I thought were impossible for a Man...LOL.
The other Media person that I don't care for is Dennis O'Donnell, there is only one word for him...YUCK, imho.
I really like Barbara Rodgers, Mark Ibanez (although I wish he would have spoke out against a certain team moving to the South Bay), Dana King, Faith Fancher, rest her soul, and Doug Murphy who also died awhile back.
Can only comment on radio, as I am up in the Santa Cruz Mountains...
When KGO got rid of Michael Krasny on the weekend evening hours, I was bereft. It took many years and the internet to finally provide the opportunity to hear him again on a regular basis. It was definitely KGO's loss, especially in light of the self-important buffoon who replaced him.
So absolutely, Krasny's awesome.
It is such a pleasure to be able to listen to Christine Craft and Pat Thurston, a pleasure that is probably lost on all the men here. (Hey! Women on the radio! End of Days! Sheesh...) Christine always has an incisive, unique take on the topics of the day. I don't always agree with her, but appreciate her intellect. Pat's night show was such a great format for her. This new hyper short segment blast-o-rama really sucks for, you know, like, communication. Thanks to both for bringing their expertise to bear, nevertheless.
Thanks for Rhandi Rhodes, too, although she is not exactly local.
Women on the radio: you are so appreciated!
Owenns: pffft. So disdainful. He was tolerable up until the Iraq "war," and then it was only on a need-to-know-breaking news basis. (Not to dis him while he's down. Get well soon, Ronn.)
Otherwise it's KQED, KAZU (Monterey), KUSP (Santa Cruz). Whether carrying the national feeds or broadcasting unique programming, they all enrich the airwaves.
As a long time radio addict (since the tailend of the 50s), it saddens me to listen/witness the corporatization of radio. A pass across the dial picks up the same voices, mostly conservative, over and over. Humans seem drawn to the radio medium, but their inability to sample a local and diverse conversation is troubling.
Just Can'ts: Bill Wattenburg, Len Tillem, Karel (sorry, but you cut people off), KSCO (Santa Cruz) because the owners are like Bill O'Reilley and Ann Coulter, but without the talent.
Thank the internets for such an abundance of voices now. We really lucked out there. And even better, more and more people are turning away from their radios and turning to iTunes, etc.
Thanks for the blog, Rich. It's on my daily read list.
Favorites: Sarah and Vinnie, Damon Bruce, Pat Thurston. Worst: Sussman, that Monty guy. Monty was talking about women being able to have it all; i.e., family and career. uh, hullo. what century does he live in? Think same sex partners, etc. I used to love Ronn but now he is unlistenable, mainly because of the commercials, etc., but he seems flat now for some reason.
Favorites: Ronn Owens, Christine Craft, Alan Colmes, Gil Gross, John Rothman, Mike Sammet (1080 only once a week at 2:00, Tuesday usually), Lyn Jimenez. Dislike: Savage, Rush worst two. Then Karel, Monte, Charlie (1080).
Favorites: None. This time is devoid of good talent right now. It's sad. Maybe Savage and at times Tom, but he has slipped without Ralph.
Dislike: Too many to count. Programmers don't even know how to develop talent. More than half the hosts are either collecting AARP checks, or just yell about sports.
Slim pickins for favorite. I like both Christine Craft and Jim Gabbert for their eclecticism (unless Christine's topic is Ross Mirkarimi). I love Marty Lurie's "Talkin' Baseball" especially this thrilling season. He has so much energy in his voice and enthusiasm for the topic, I thought he was a much younger man.
Guilty pleasure: Alan Colmes taking on all the right wing callers who are clueless that Alan is playing them.
Really guilty pleasure: Phil Hendrie. He is scary funny with all his voices.
Most missed: of course, Gene Burns and KGO.
I don't think the Lennon Guy is even calling in now. Hypnotic voice award to the basso profane John B. Wells on C2C.
Jim Gabbert excellent. No agenda. An honest perspective and respectfull of the callers. Christine Craft? Yuck! The most hostile women in Bay Area radio.
It isn't a surprise that the Warriors have pretty much sucked since Fitzgerald back stabbed Greg Papa to steal away his Warrior TV gig in 1997. Fitz is a competent announcer, but he's just not a likeable guy. He's a suck up, a weasel, and he acts as if he knows it all when he doesn't.
Unfortunately there are a lot of idiots running stations (have been for years), that like people who are toady and do whatever they're told without hesitation. Fitz knows how to play that game, and it's an unfortunate part of human nature that many management types are so insecure that they like hiring little weasels such as at 'Fatty-Fitz.'
Roberta Gonzales, KPIX: Sad to see her in a reduced role. Michael Finney, KGO: Love that he looks after us little guys.
For TV worst:
Christina Loren, KNTV: Is there such a thing as too pretty? She has no credibility with me because all I can think of when she's on air is who'd she sleep with in order to get that gig?
Gasia Mikaelian, KTVU: I get that TV is a visual medium and younger people are generally easier on the eyes, but this chick looks like she's 12. Again, credibility issues, similiar to a 14 year old boy trying to teach a 35 year old mother how to change a diaper.
For radio favs:
Gil Gross, KKSF-AM: Not a huge fan while subbing for Ronn but once he replace the late Pete Wilson, he grew on me. Now I'm a fan and appreciate his insight that only years of experience can provide.
Kathleen Lawton, KCSM-FM: One of the only purely blues shows in the Bay Area.
For radio worst:
Tom Sullivan, KKSF-AM: His right-wing, trickle down economic prophaganda is tired and old.
Delilah Rene, KBAY-FM: Her emotional reactions to her callers aren't believable and deserves the radio equilavent of a Razzie.
Best: Dan Ashley, Catherine Heenan. Always a pleasure to watch.
Worst: Darya Folsom. Exact opposite of pleasure to watch. Screeching, opinionated and dressed like a 17-year-old prostitute. Cannot help but turn the channel when she's on and she comes across like a person who is probably completely unlikeable and intolerable in person. I hope whoever keeps her on the air gets fired, because she is clearly sleeping with them to keep her job.
worst: tie between Fitz and Karel...do we have to say anymore? best: Radnich, and here's why: he's always entertaining and when he's not, when you just can't understand for example, how he couldn't get a particular pop culture reference? how could he put down Larry for doing something that he would do? It's then you can laugh at him when you're not laughing with him
Here's something for the old folks; just once on Morning's on 2, I would love to hear Dave Clark read this in his own "style"
"You...say that you LOVE me...all, of the time...you...say that you NEED ME,...and...that you'll ALWAYS...be mine...and, I'm feelin...GLAD...all over...Tori?"
Least favorite: Anyone on KGO. Talk show hosts who take themselves way too seriously. They all think they are the second coming of Phil Donohue. Honestly caller!!!!!!!
Favorites: Damon Bruce, Larry Krueger, Ray Woodson and Kate Scott. Laura Ingram, and Sean Hannity for political commentary at the national level.
I was always a KTVU news fan. Dennis Richmond seemed to set the bar for professional news delivery. My best and worst are same bat time same bat channel. Tori Campbell for favorite & Dave Clark for worst. Somerville & Julie make a great team, and I miss the Somerville / Campbell pairing in the am. Watching the current am news is like watching someone sink (Clark) and swim (Campbell) - and on it goes, back and forth.
All time favorite bay area media persons past: Dave Morey, and tips of the hats to both former KTVU reporters Sarah Sydner & Ted Rowlands. I enjoy seeing them reporting for CNN.
Best is Michael Krasny with John Rothmannas runner-up
worst are Karel with Savage as a very distant runner-up
I've listened to talk radio for over 50 years and have never heard anything/anyone who has such a lack of talent as Karel...I hope he pay's to be on the air.
All-time favorite: Dennis Richmond. He seemed like a national anchor here in the Bay Area all those years
ReplyDeleteAll-time worst: Brian Sussman, KSFO morning show host and hate/ignorance warmer upper. There is no way this disgusting moron should be on the airwaves let alone everyday for several hours. I can feel my IQ slipping away just thinking about him.

ReplyDeleteI don't like Fitzgerald either BUT this intense hatred sounds border-line crazy.
DeleteYou're embarrassed for him because you suspect he posts anonymously on Warrior fan sites?
Have to agree on Fitzgerald. If Notre Dame is turning out guys with his weasily character it must not be the university it proclaims to be. At the same time, it's kind of sad because for as long as Fitz has been with the organization, you never think of him when you think of the Warriors. DeleteFavorite: Gotta agree with 7:49, it's Michael Krasny.
ReplyDeleteRunners-up are John Rothmann, Christine Craft
Unfavorites are legion: let's head the list with Karel, then add any of the Limbaugh acolytes who make a living demonizing decent Americans.
I didn't know that Rabbi Daniel Lapin had a show. Egads, I'll be sure to give that one a miss.
The hateful rabbi is on at 5am Sundays only. Avoid his unholy show at all costs! One day a week of that fool is more than enough. Sussman and the dirty rabbi on a show together would be like nuclear waste for the ears.
DeleteWorst: Karel.
ReplyDeletePeriod.
Put him out of his doggie misery. He needs to be off the air.

Nothing is wrong with Dave Clark. I feel that he is very professional and delivers well.

ReplyDeleteIt's Ama, not Ame and is she rated as "great" by you based on appearance? She's not that great a reporter and this isn't a beauty contest.
DeleteNot a beauty contest? says who? Rich? It's a list of favorites and least favorites. Sometimes you just want to see a pretty face on TV. Ask a news director... *shrugs*
DeleteYou asked for it...
ReplyDeleteFAVORITE: Dan Ashley (KGO), Justine Waldman (KRON), Jacqueline Bennett (KRON), Ken Wayne (KRON), Fred Inglis (KTVU), Joe Fonzi (KTVU), Vikki Livviakis (KRON), James Fletcher (KRON). KCBS morning news crew. All personable, they look at you when they talk to you, believable.

ReplyDeleteFitz "Duddy Fitzgerald"
Brooks..bi polar.
DeleteVern Glenn.
DeleteRaddy also wins biggest phony in media. What he's got hidden in storage lockers, from the 70's,I shudder to think..hee.You never know!
Anybody who cruises through Frisco in a pornographers dream car -a Bentley-ya never know..
DeleteStan's Radnich obsession is creepy.
Delete806..said by a guy who uses different alias's to stalk me from blog to blog. Talk about creepy..Slam,Reggie,and his other ID's...
DeleteAmong the best:
ReplyDeleteFor Sports:
Greg Papa, Ted Robinson, Jon Miller, Kruk and Kuip and Ken Korach.
Papa as a play by play guy is fine. When he hosts that silly show on 95.7, he becomes a weird and creepy uncle that makes Radnich sound normal.
DeleteI have noticed the same thing. Kind of disappointing after hearing him call a game.
DeleteI still miss the old KGO Radio crew. Anyone hear of an event commemorating the anniversary of The Day KGO Died?
ReplyDeleteBig time local cheese ball has to be Tony Kovaleski from NBC Bay Area "Investigative Unit."
ReplyDeleteHis promos are a riot and make me laugh every time.
ReplyDeleteThe handicapped: the staff at KTVU -- the station's hyperbolic treatment of every protest or complaint against the cops (which has done much to aggravate protester conduct and public distrust of the police) saddles the station's considerable on-air talent with the task of practicing the worst kind of journalism.
ReplyDeleteJohn Rothman is good!
Good call on Krasny for best.
ReplyDeleteDarya Folsom and Bob Fitzgerald are toss-ups for worst. They're not incompetent, they just come across as unlikeable.
If this is a "great place for a sports fan to live and tune in" to, sports radio across the US must really suck. And here I thought KNBR was pretty sad, Damon excluded.
ReplyDeleteThe worst in my opinion is Dan Noyes (sp?). My favorites are the KGO-TV anchor teams and most of their field reporters. I also really liked the pre Disney field reporters and miss their great reporting abilities.
ReplyDeleteDan NOISE
DeleteFavorite: Armstrong and Getty. Least favorite: Michael savage.
ReplyDeleteFavorite: Frank Somerville for TV news and Marty Lurie for sports talk because of his encyclopedic knowledge and sheer passion for his subject.
ReplyDeleteLeast Favorite: In a close run thing, the godawful Dave 'Mr. Sincerity' Clark narrowly beats out Bob 'Captain Condescention' Fitzgerald.
Best-Carolyn Johnson and Ann Notarangelo both just read the news without any hype to it.
ReplyDeleteWorst -Rod Brooks How he remained on the air for the long is a mystery. Is it because of his race? His constant laughing and otherwise lack of knowledge and use of english lanquage is horriable. Wish he would disappear and BOB F would go solo might even be listenable.
Least favorite, Christine Craft. Too angry.
ReplyDeleteSweatheart you need to calm down. A huge chip on her shoulders.
Delete2:58 perhaps you are related to Todd Akin.
DeleteBoth my Favorites & Least Favorite happen to work at KTVU.
ReplyDeleteFavorites-Rita Williams(far and away the Best TV News Reporter-will miss her when she retires in a few months) Tom Vacar and John Fowler.
ReplyDeleteBest - Somerville, Pam Moore, Greg Papa, Dan Ashley, Chris Townsend, Damon Bruce
ReplyDeleteWorst - Bob Fitzgerald, D Folsom
Fitz is unbearable. His endless Warrior excuses have become ridiculous and his Notre Dame worship in nauseating. Brooks may be even more annoying with his affected hipster banter.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if together they are worse than the sum of their parts or merely equally awful.
Favorite: Don Knapp, Phil Matier, Mike Sugarman, Sherry Hu (when she was on the air) Anna Duckworth --These folks are the real deal; smart, talented, kind, no big egos.
ReplyDeleteLeast Favorite: Dave Clark, Dana King (when she has to ad-lib something), NBC Bay Area's "investigative Unit," KRON's "people behaving badly" reporter.
Favorite - John Rothman (KKSF)
ReplyDeleteFavorite: Dan Ashley. Big daddy Lieberman
ReplyDeleteLeast Favorite: KRON
I know the team is bad but the guys that do the Raiders pregame and postgame are really good. Mike Lamb, Jason Ross, George Atkinson, Bill Romanowksi and David Humms all are good on the air for a bad team.
ReplyDeleteThat's Jared Hart, the most hated man in radio's, team. Maybe Rich should mention that he does great work.
DeleteI'm not saying KNBR is great (or even good, at this point), but spend a few years in a secondary market town like San Diego and you'll come to appreciate "The Leader" (or even 95.7) a little more. Blowharded, minor-league, arrogant doofus Ted Leitner, a local institution down there, would warrant his own blog up here and make smarmy, weaselly Fitz look like Red Barber.
ReplyDeleteIt's all relative, I suppose. About the only good thing San Diego ever had going for them was Jerry Coleman.
Favorite, past: Dennis Richmond -- A true professional all the way. And the partnership with Elaine Corrall (sp?) was perfect.
ReplyDeleteFavorites, current: Steve Paulson and Bill Martin -- Both of them are true meteorologists.
ReplyDeleteWho's next for me?: Well, after last year's KGO shakeup, here's where my ears are weekdays:
* 7am-1pm, KQED for Morning Edition, Forum, and Talk of the Nation
* 1pm-4:30 pm, 960 AM for Randi Rhodes and Norman Goldman
* 4:30pm - 6 pm, KQED for Marketplace and All Things Considered
* 7pm-midnight, 960AM for Stephani Miller and the host who follows at 10 pm.
Weekends:
* 10 am - noon, KQED for Car Talk and Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me
* Afternoons-evenings, KGO for Consumer Help, Pat Thurston, & Karel.
Podcasts:
I search through some podcast files of interest once a week, listen to maybe 3 or 4 in a week of these, from among
* Ronn Owens@KGO, Gil Gross@910AM, John Rothman@910AM, and Bob Brinker@560AM.
ReplyDeleteWorst: Karel. Need I explain!?
-Wayne
Michael Krasny is great.
ReplyDeleteKGO's Karel and Monty are equally impossible to stomach. Not sure who is the the biggest drama queen.
The worst:
ReplyDeleteThat Folsom girl on Channel 4: She cackles.
The new weather guy on Channel 5: (yawn) move Roberta?why
The doofus calling himself an investigator on Channel 11.
Ken Wayne: even more boring than Dave Clark.
The Best:
Dana King: when she's not grey
Bob Redell: the guy can tell a good story about anything
John Fowler: science made easy.
Carolyn Johnson: Just easy to watch and easy to believe.
Jade Hernandez: hottest latina on tv around here, and always well put together.
Bill Martin: you can tell he likes weather.
Jade Hernandez? She cannot enunciate at all. I mute whenever she's on.
DeleteShe may be cute, but there are much hotter women in Bay Area news than Jade.
Wow I think we have a winner on who is the most dislike personality in the Bay Area by a long shot . Congrats Bobby Fitzgerald you are the Chump I mean Champ. Warriors please wake up and lIsten to your Fan base and get rid of this Fat Clown once and for all.
ReplyDeleteFavorites: Mark Curtis (I miss that guy) and Phil Matier; for sports, Jon Miller, Greg Papa, Ted Robinson--all pros. Ray Ratto, Jim Kozimor, and Mitch Juricich are hilarious.
ReplyDeleteWorst: Bernie Ward and the insufferable Ralph Barbieri.
Nothing personal, but i just don't care for Dave Clark's delivery of the news...I swear this dude can hit octaves that I thought were impossible for a Man...LOL.
ReplyDeleteThe other Media person that I don't care for is Dennis O'Donnell, there is only one word for him...YUCK, imho.
I really like Barbara Rodgers, Mark Ibanez (although I wish he would have spoke out against a certain team moving to the South Bay), Dana King, Faith Fancher, rest her soul, and Doug Murphy who also died awhile back.
Seems like you're not the only one who is not a fan of Dave Clark. His name has come up a few times I see.
DeleteOne person that I forgot, who I think is outstanding in her delivery, & field is Roberta Gonzales....You Go Girl!
DeleteCan only comment on radio, as I am up in the Santa Cruz Mountains...
ReplyDeleteWhen KGO got rid of Michael Krasny on the weekend evening hours, I was bereft.
ReplyDeleteFavorites: Ronn Owens, Christine Craft, Alan Colmes, Gil Gross, John Rothman, Mike Sammet (1080 only once a week at 2:00, Tuesday usually), Lyn Jimenez.
ReplyDeleteDislike: Savage, Rush worst two. Then Karel, Monte, Charlie (1080).
Favorites: None. This time is devoid of good talent right now. It's sad. Maybe Savage and at times Tom, but he has slipped without Ralph.
ReplyDeleteDislike: Too many to count. Programmers don't even know how to develop talent. More than half the hosts are either collecting AARP checks, or just yell about sports.
Just awful.
Slim pickins for favorite. I like both Christine Craft and Jim Gabbert for their eclecticism (unless Christine's topic is Ross Mirkarimi). I love Marty Lurie's "Talkin' Baseball" especially this thrilling season. He has so much energy in his voice and enthusiasm for the topic, I
ReplyDeletethought he was a much younger man.
Great choice: Marty Lurie! I forgot about him (now that baseball season is over)!
DeleteJim Gabbert excellent. No agenda. An honest perspective and respectfull of the callers. Christine Craft? Yuck!
DeleteThe most hostile women in Bay Area radio.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately there are a lot of idiots running stations (have been for years), that like people who are toady and do whatever they're told without hesitation. Fitz knows how to play that game, and it's an unfortunate part of human nature that many management types are so insecure that they like hiring little weasels such as at 'Fatty-Fitz.'
We talking TV or radio?
ReplyDeleteFor TV favs:
ReplyDeleteWorst: Darya Folsom.
Ashley - good looking; Heenan - old enough to retire; Folsom - why the hell do you hate her so much?
DeleteIs it just me or is Ronn Owens sounding more and more conservative these days? Or maybe I've just become more liberal...
ReplyDeleteClaudine Wong (KTVU) should top the best liked TV list.
ReplyDeleteAlan Colmes should top the radio list.
worst: tie between Fitz and Karel...do we have to say anymore?
ReplyDeletebest: Radnich, and here's why: he's always entertaining and when he's not, when you just can't understand for example, how he couldn't get a particular pop culture reference? how could he put down Larry for doing something that he would do? It's then you can laugh at him when you're not laughing with him
Here's something for the old folks; just once on Morning's on 2, I would love to hear Dave Clark read this in his own "style"
"You...say that you LOVE me...all, of the time...you...say that you NEED ME,...and...that you'll ALWAYS...be mine...and, I'm feelin...GLAD...all over...Tori?"
Least favorite: Anyone on KGO. Talk show hosts who take themselves way too seriously. They all think they are the second coming of Phil Donohue. Honestly caller!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFavorites: Damon Bruce, Larry Krueger, Ray Woodson and Kate Scott.
ReplyDeleteAll time favorite bay area media persons past: Dave Morey, and tips of the hats to both former KTVU reporters Sarah Sydner & Ted Rowlands. I enjoy seeing them reporting for CNN.
Best is Michael Krasny with John Rothmannas runner-up
ReplyDeleteworst are Karel with Savage as a very distant runner-up
I've listened to talk radio for over 50 years and have never heard anything/anyone who has such a lack of talent as Karel...I hope he pay's to be on the air.
