The Owens Absence on KGO: Back problem

The lowdown, (no pun), on Ronn Owens week-long absence on KGO: He has a bad back. How bad? Bad enough, according to a source, that required emergency medical care.

Doctors initially told Owens that he'd need surgery--now, a new diagnosis indicates he won't need it. He's due back on Monday.

The conspiracies can be put to rest. This isn't some sick-out a la Cumulus; at least nothing has come my way to indicate otherwise.

  1. Since Matress Man has back problems, we can now confirm he has a spine. Where was it last year?

    2. Very good. Worth 6 points.

    3. I'm confused by the lack of "spine" comment. Please continue. Explain yourself.

  2. He should buy a good mattress.

    1. Yeah! Practice what he preaches!

  3. Ronn said on-air his recent back pain flared up overnight. Which is ironic for a man that spends half his waking hours reading mattress commercials...

    1. I feel bad for anyone who suffers back pain and Ronn had to have a lot of pain to end up with all those tests. I don't think it's funny and I don't like mean spirited remarks in this type of situation...beware of karma! Anyway, I wish Ronn a speedy recovery and really, I dread it when he will no longer be on morning radio because I have listened to him for so many years. Do I like the way he handled the big firing at KGO? NO. Do I like all of his shows? NO and I change channels or do something else when I am bored with his show. However, I do like Ronn and appreciate him keeping me company for all these years.

  5. Hopefully Ronn can get an untainted steroid epidural... They relieve pain so beautifully for about three months. YOu can usually have three of them..before any necessary disc surgery. I got through my last year of law school that way, then two lumbar surgeries. They can really buy you time, reduce inflammation and pain dramatically. They aren't really painful, at all, and they don't mess with your cognitive skills.

  6. Back problem? I don't believe one word of it.
This is a negotiation ploy. Pure and simple. In fact we may more of this in the coming weeks as we near the end of the year.

  7. Maybe Ronn Owens should think about taking a medical retirement with less than 3 months left on his contract.

  8. Brian Copeland filled in on Friday, and Ronn called in from St. Francis hospital with comments on the VP debate.

  9. I wish Ron a speedy recovery. I don't always agree with his liberal prism of seeing today's world, but he seems a good person who has helped many many listeners get through the day.

That said, ....writer "Cristine 9.27" (is this OUR Cristine, as in "C'??
Either way, I'm glad you found a solution to deal with your back pain. I respect your diligence in getting through law school. That ain't easy!. A good lawyer can be a gift from above.................

Lastly (speaking of gifts,) what about The Bay Area's Mostest Favoritest Rabbi....RABBI LAPIN of 560am, of course. When is his contract up with 560am? They don't respect him, putting the program on at the "UnGODly hour of 5am on Sunday morning. Seems like they do not want a live talker in that spot anyway, preferring to re-run some tasteless overcooked mishmash instead. Rabbi Lapin is MY RABBI, and I DEMAND that 910am offer him a sweet contract this very minute! Otherwise...I may have to go back to SLEEP till the Rush encore show comes on!! So There!

    1. Yes Daniel Lapin is very good. Whether it be Sunday mornings or afternoons. His commentary is excellent.
No one covers religion or the Judeo/Christian's impact on modern society like this man does.
      Highly recommended.

    2. I thought I was the only one who listened to the Rabbi on Sunday mornings. He is certainly entertaining, although I disagree with him on almost everything I've heard him state. His South African accent is endearing and I find it cute that he fancies himself a business consultant even though his businesses went under and he had to file for bankruptcy. Look up his relationship with the disgraced Jack Abramoff and especially the hilarious exchange in which Abramoff solicited a fictitious award from one of the Rabbi's organizations. Our Rabbi reminds me of a Jewish version of The reverend Al Sharpton....

  10. Who cares? Ronn and Rush both suck.

  12. Poor Ronn. He must have missed the Sleep Train. He's been quiet
about any rumors of his retirement. Will he wait until the last
minute to announce? Or will he drag it out for two months to get
all his fans calling and crying. Whatever. Ronn is Ronn. Always
a legend in his own mind.

  13. What did everyone expect? No man's back could withstand the weight of that oversized ego for so long!

  14. The good news is the NY witch from hell was off KGONE last night. The bad news is David Weintraub was in her stead. To his credit, he was not as awful as the first time he took the mic and then proceeded to come to this forum spouting his future greatness. He was awful nonetheless.

    1. He wasn't bad last night at all. That was pretty lame that he showed up here to rant but I was mildly entertained last night. No worse than anyone else they've still got. Definitely better than what Maureen does. He sounded like a broadcaster. If he comes back here again I'm sure his opinion of himself will now even be bigger!

  15. Ronn use up all of your vacation and sick days before leaving in
    December.

  16. Ronn talked about his week-long absence during his program Wednesday. Part of his heart muscle began to develop sepsis last week, and had he not checked in at the hospital last Wednesday he'd probably have died over the weekend. He's loaded up with antibiotics but is back on the air and putting his usual zest into those mattress ads.
