Giants versus 49ers Thursday and This Game isn't Close

The Giants will go head to head with the 49ers on Thursday night, (baseball playoffs, on Fox at 5 PM and the 49ers at 5: 30 on the NFL Network).

And as always, the NFL game will outdraw baseball significantly. The numbers won't be close, even in SF. Sure, many will flip back and forth between the baseball game and football game--locally. Nationally, no contest: the NFL is king.

  1. I would not be so sure. The Giants game is an important fourth playoff game, the 49ers game is just a regular season game. I will flip back and forth for sure, if both games become blowouts I will go on a bike ride...

  2. More money is bet on NFL games so the Niner game will out draw the Giants by a lot.

  4. A few factors:

    1. In the Bay Area, the Giants tonight will likely get more viewers..more meaningful game and it is the playoffs....but outside our region, for those who get the NFL Network (hence why locally 7 will carry game for those lacking NFL Network), they will draw as well if not better..BUT

    2. Even the worst NFL game usually outdraws MLB, bu the NFL game on the NFL Network which is not cleared on all tiers, the rest of the country that does not get that channel if sports fans will find FOX as it is national and everywhere and likely watch the Giants/Cards.

If the 49'ers game was on NBC or even ESPN, they would get more viewers nationwide than the baseball game...but here locally the Giants will get the higher viewership.

    1. Point two is well taken. All viewers can get Fox, less so with NFL network (outside of the Bay Area and Seattle).

I'll be watching the Niners with the radio on the Giants, switching channels when necessary.

  5. Rich. My tv will be set on the baseball game, it's the playoffs, I've got a feeling neither team will do well in the national spotlight tonight! Let's hope I'm wrong~

  6. NFL Network is in 61% of households, Fox in 96%.

  7. Game Football is on KGO-7 in the bay area.

  8. Watching the 49er-Seattle game and checking my laptop for the Giant score.

Either way two must see-observe games.

  9. I'm was watching the Giants on TV and listening to KGO radio for the Niners game, but now that the Giants are getting blown out by the Cards, I've put Kruk, Kuip, Miller and Flem on KNBR and switched the TV to the Niners (sound off on the TV of course!)

I'd much rather listen to the local radio announcers than the National TV announcers!

  10. The Gigantes looked like they wanted to finish the game asap and go watch the 49ers instead!

  11. 7:42 is your typjical fuckin Giants fan. Whining about the nation crew because they aren't Tweedle-Dee (Kuip) and Tweedle-Dumb (Kruk). And lest we forget about Pee-Wee (Flem).

  12. Win one game Giants and then take the series back to home.

  13. If this is right, would someone please remind KNBR that they are also the Niners Station and it would have been nice to hear something about them in the last two weeks. I cant imagine the 49ers are too happy that they have played nearly half the season and KNBR has yet to even broadcast a game. Meanwhile, the station has been highjacked by Marty Lurie's shut-ins and it has been so relentlessly boring I've had to switch stations. Brian "You're not a true fan" Murphy has been particularly nauseating - he actually make me hate baseball. After 170 games, I can't believe I'm not the only one who just wants the season to end. GO CARDINALS - put me out of my misery!

  15. why not do a real analysis on why football gets better ratings

significant rule changes have made the nfl the no fun league

and im sorry, the quality of play has deteriorated since the montana, elway, etc days

tim tebow is a star? are you frickin kidding me?

its simple....and this was exposed when harbaugh took a safety off the board...its all about gambling

america is addicted to it and the nfl feeds it and is in cahoots with the gambling elements across the country...which is why every team is forced to post their injury reports days before the game...no other sport does this

it is a corrupt sport run by the corrupt...no wonder why guys like paterno had no problem with pedophiles running amuck

shame on all of you who feed into this corruption

    KEEP AMERICA CLEAN...WATCH BASEBALL

    1. Melky, could you please pass me a syringe? I know the game is going on buy I think I might ask that model up in the fifth row for her number. Ah yes, the grand old game, played by stand-up men for the love of the game. Thanks for the comments Marty!
