Geraldo coming to KGO Radio? Not likely

Cumulus has launched Geraldo Rivera in the morning on its LA and NY radio outlets, (KABC and WABC, respectively)

With Ronn Owens impending leave from KGO, could Rivera end up in the 9-Noon slot at KGO, also owned by Cumulus?

I doubt it. And I'll talk about in a later post. Several scenarios here.

  1. Great! Our airwaves need more insightful discussion like this:

  2. He's coming. Cumulus needs the clearance in Market #4.

  3. His real name is Jerry Rivers.

  4. Yes, Geraldo will be on, but more likely on KSFO than KGO. Better fit, and if Cumatose is serious about KGO being a news station and competing with KCBS and KQED, that 9-Noon slot needs to be flipped to news so it's a solid 4am-Midnight block. (Yeah, I know they run Bloomberg starting at 11pm, and that too will need to change.) As long as Rush isn't on KSFO anymore, why not put Geraldo into that slot? I'm sure the Titanic also benefited from frequently shuffling their deck chairs.

  5. Geraldo wears out his welcome. Face it,when Ronn is gone no new personality is going to step in and last 30 years..what Cumulus will get is instability..or MORE instability then now.

  6. I had the pleasure of being a guest of a couple of Geraldo shows. He was lots of fun, very sharp, and a great interviewer. I've not ever heard his radio show.

  8. Geraldo Rivera (born Riviera)
    Gary Radnich (Radunich)
    Ronn Owens (Lowenstein)

Can't people accept their family name?

  10. Didn't realize Geraldo was so old. You would think there would be a few talk hosts with some skill in their 30s and 40s (and no Hannity doesn't count).
Used to be when you retired and still kinda wanted to work you became a Wal-Mart greeter. Now you get a talk show.

  11. Checked in on KGO tonight. There is a nauseating ad in which Timoteo Montemanure urges listeners to register to vote. They really do think 18 year olds listen!

  12. What's the big fuss about people wanting to use "stage names?"

People can call themselves whatever they want! Think of what the world would be without Wolfman Jack, Redd Foxx (mentioned before), B.B. King, Cher, Lightnin' Hopkins...

People can call themselves whatever they want, IMO! If one has an issue with their WORK, that's an entirely different thing. I personally can't hack Geraldo much but it has nothing to do with his NAME.

For heaven sakes, give it a REST already with the Ronn Owens name!

    1. Ronn Owens should pride in his family name and ethnicity.

  13. "For heaven sakes, give it a REST already with the Ronn Owens name!"

Gawd, yes! He has never made any attempt to conceal that the double-"n" is an affectation that he chose when he was much younger ... or, that he legally changed his surname from Lowenstein.

Neither fact is any "revelation," and all of the mockeries make the posters look childish.

    1. Hey, we are not all insiders. I did not know Owens was a Lowenstein until I read this post. I find it interesting that you think pointing out his given name is some form of mockery. You sound childish with your post. Grow up!

  15. Peter B. Collins made an appearance last night (Sunday) from 10pm to 1 am on KGO. Were they testing him out as a replacement? Could a regular gig be in the offing?

  16. I heard Peter B as well, so much better than Maureen, no comparison. I didn't hear Peter B saying why he was on, Karel just said he is in for Maureen. I assume (perhaps wrongly)that many of the KGO hosts do not have contracts, at least not the newcomers. I suggest that those of us who like Peter B let Cumulus know, although it seems that Cumulus does not care about ratings, or they would have replaced Maureen long ago, with either Peter B or Stacy Taylor. I personally like Stacy a little better than Peter. Either one though would get me listening again to the 10 to 1 slot on Sunday. Maureen will not

    1. Peter B. would wipe the floor with the NY comedian. If he is available, it is beyond me why they keep bringing back that horrible comedian.

    2. I wouldn't be surprised if Maureen does the shift for $200 or $250...maybe even less! And it kind of sounds like she does most of her own "tech" on the New York end of the ISDN line. On a side note, is there something wrong with me? I don't hate her as much as everyone else posting here...I would never seek her show out, and wouldn't miss her if I never heard her again, but if I'm awake I'll listen to her while web surfing.

  18. I'd rather hear news than have to listen to Geraldo. Hell, I'd rather hear a radio announcer describe a tiddly-winks match than listen to Geraldo. But, hey, that's just me.

No worries. KQED-Forum & NPR is just a click away.
