A Little SF TV History on Saturday

  1. That KPIX 10PM News music sounds very much like the music used on KTLA's News At Ten (in times past).

  2. Oh,man- a blast from the past. CH9 with the 70's right now, then this on 415 RL media.
Why did some stunningly beautiful woman have to get old? Suzanne Sanders was a goddess.
Although she had 80's "anchorman's" hair..so did Kate Kelly..and the others. The female version-lol.

  3. Suzanne Saunders was then, and is now, totally beautiful.

    1. I remember her first day at KTVU, She was the most perfect looking woman I had ever seen on TV.To this day,I don't know how she didn't become a model or actress..something I thought way back then.
Find her on ch2 with the blond Christy Brinkly goddess hair in old tapes (mid 70's?) and you'll know what I mean.

  4. Great stuff- a walk through history- always good to hear long-time Top 40 DJ Charlie Van Dyke doing the voice-overs on KTVU- what a set of pipes...

  5. Getting some terrible audio reception from KNBR..more of those cutbacks on engineers?..ugh,hard to take FOX.

  6. The Channel 7 opener was very similar to KABC's Eyewitness News opener in Los Angeles.

  7. Anyone know what movie KGO stole it's classic opening music from?

    1. Yes. Blew my mind when I saw CHL for the first time in the 80s.

    2. From the movie Cool Hand Luke. Composed by Lalo Schifrin. The track from the film is titled "Tar Sequence" and is just a segment of a larger piece of the music.

  8. Gary Radnich? He used to do sports?

  9. Wow. It wasn't that long ago that local TV news actually mattered. That is a sad realization.

  10. Pete Giddings. . . god almighty, what an arrogant, sanctimonious jerk off. KGO was smart not to renew his contract.

    1. Maybe, but he made weather interesting. Unlike most weather readers he understands weather & climate. Loved his weather programs for schools. Weather reporting has never been as interesting nor as good after he left. I became interested in climatology & meteorology, that I pursued @ CAL, in small part because of him.

  11. What in the hell happened to Mr. Lovevitt, of KGO? I miss Wayne Walker, Dennis, & Elaine Corral. And Mark Thompson, I believe moved to the LA area, and got into showbiz...

  12. KNTV's "Do You Know the Way to SJ" news open...seriously?

  13. Where's KICU's TV36 News at 10 open or the Noon News. Jan Hutchins, Jane Acre, Bill Buckmaster, John Schrader sports, and Steve Paulson's weather...

  14. Once saw Emerald Yeh on Clement Street just before she got into her Mercedes. What a beautiful woman. Then later I learned in the Chron that she married a Lowell classmate of mine. Lucky guy!

  15. @5:34 They used it for many years. Really added to the "small media market" quality of their news shows.

  16. It was memory lane to see all those faces again but why did you give such short shrift to Ch-2, KTVU?

During the 10 years Barbara Simpson co-anchored the 10 O'clock News with Dennis Richmond,KTVU won several Emmy Awards for best local newscast and also was the number one Independent Newscast in the country, and their local reporters won tons of Emmy Awards.

So - - very late in your montage, you show George and Leslie and Dennis and Elaine, but completely leave out Pat McCormick, Bob MacKenzie, Gary Park, Mark Ibanez, and Betty Ann and Rita and Lloyd and Claude and Randy and John and so many others - - oh, and Barbara Simpson who anchored for 10 years and launched "Two At Noon" with Pat.

It's just kind of nice to be remembered for years of good work with good people - - don't ya think?!???

Barbara's doing afternoon talk on KSFO, Sat. and Sun. afternoons, and lovin' it!

    1. @ 12:34

      Don't shoot the messenger!

In fairness to Rich, surely you must realize that Rich found this existing video collage posted on YouTube. According to the info on YouTube, the person who created it is "trackstacka." Plus, there may not be any more clips of local news intro's available than are already grafted together into this existing compilation. It's impossible to compile something that doesn't exist!

So, if you have a bitch about the content, go on YouTube (by clicking on the YouTube icon at the bottom of the video window in this blog) and post your complaint in the comments section that's found below the video window.

Who knows, maybe the creator of the collage has more available clips and can modify/update the video.

  17. KNTV News San Jose, what a joke. Does anyone watch this? I've seen better news out of Fresno, where I grew up. For the bay's biggest city, San Jose, it's a cruel joke to say the least.

  18. And why I salute Marty Gonzalez and Isabel Duran..they are STILL doing the news despite the "we seen em come, and seen em go" for decades now.

  23. When you look back at these.. one missing is Kron's Live at 5 with Bob Jimenez and Evan White.. one of the better newscasts.
