Yes, Diane Dwyer is great and hot as Weekend KNTV Anchor; Saturday Post

Diane Dwyer

I've written extensively about my appreciation, (yours too) for NBC Bay Area, (KNTV), weekend anchor, Diane Dwyer. A solid pro with solid credentials and a local favorite, Dwyer has a twenty-plus year resume in local TV news and also teaches at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley (her alma mater).

I've followed Dwyer since her days at KTVU and was amazed that the Oakland Fox affiliate let her go, in spite of her first-rate anchoring and reporting. At KNTV she has developed a nice niche on the weekend and provides stabilty and quality presentation on the evening newscasts.

And yes, of course, shame on me for omitting her on the list of "hottest Bay Area TV anchor." Dwyer will nail me for bringing that up, but I'm ready for the barrage. Sorry, Diane, but you're too sleek, cool, and professionally resplendent. And easy on the eyes too. Like I said, it is a visual medium.

  1. re "hotness" and "coolness" and "visual medium"...think about it for a moment..In fact, the most successful news anchors in American history both locally and nationwide have been neither "hot", "cool", or particularly visually perfect. If you are too pretty or too handsome, the larger audience prefers someone they are "comfortable" with. Think Walter Cronkite, Dave McElhatton...etc.

  2. I've enjoyed her news delivery and seriousness since her KTVU days. I once saw her in person near Jack London Square (too skinny for me). As she has aged she is starting to resemble Steve Moskowitz with a blond wig.

    1. I'm imagining what 9:20 looks like...why does it seem so unpleasant?

    2. @11:58 Some of us are not awe struck by skinny blonds without any junk in the trunk. More power to you if you like your women to look like the high powered tax litigator

    3. "your" women? Apparently you like to imagine schtupping women with plastic breasts, fat butts and lots of makeup...as opposed to brainy blondes who are smart enough to teach at the Haas School as well as anchor the news... Anybody can have plastic boobs, fat butts and lots of makeup..Very few have the smarts and the skills to teach at Cal.The fake bust, bulging butt and too much makeup will all go south..the brains?? not so much.

    4. I agree 100% with 11:58 and especially 4:07!

    5. Rich brought up her looks. I saw her live and she is a hyper skinny blond. I am not talking about her brain babe. If I dated her I could discuss Hegelian dialectics in bed with her. I like my women natural and if they have junk in the trunk and baby fat it is that much the better. I am just very tired of skinny white blonds being portrayed as the standard of "beauty" in society. Besides, I never thought Steve Moskowitz was as unattractive as some of you think he is...

    6. well, 9:38, some of us enjoy a wide variety of manifestations of female beauty. Just that the "earth mother goddess statue" types (obese) don't appeal...

    7. The attitude of 11:37am is exactly the problem. Women are led to believe that unless they weigh 100 lbs soaking wet like Ms. Dwyer then they are obese. No wonder many of the young women today have such health and image issues. A little ass and baby fat is ok. I'd think the feminists would side with me...

      Delete
    8. No, 3:18, when folks use terms like "junk in the trunk", THAT'S where the problem lies.

      Delete
    9. Relax. Junk in the trunk is just a hip hop term like "baby got back". I am guessing you are not in the coveted 17-54 demographic...don't get mad at me if God gave you a flat ass and I won't look at you

      Delete
    10. I hope you don't look at me, I'm a dude. And in the demo, as well. Just don't care for obese women as the hip-hop set does. But then, they also use a lot of demeaning terms for women anyhow...

    11. You might be a dude but you are not a man. Just because you can't handle a woman with the beautiful shape of Serena Williams don't cop out and call her body type obese. Don't be a hater if many of us are not brainwashed to worship anorexic looking blonds

    12. Still flapping your ignorance? One can get with someone who is like a classic beauty like Sophia Loren, and still enjoy a more petite woman as well.

Your continual use of negatively toned words and phrases to describe petite women, especially if they're blond seems to speak about more than just your "taste" in women...

      Delete
    13. By your ignorant standards, Marilyn Monroe would be considered a fat slob today. You find skeletal 95 lbs blond women hot. I don't. No problem. Just don't brand any woman weighing over 100 lbs as obese. Don't hate just because you are intimidated by what you can't handle

      Delete
    14. Wow, you really are ignorant, and pretty low on the reading comprehension scale. Sophia Loren is as plush as Marilyn Monroe was.

Your notion of me being intimidated by large women is also peculiar, as I've not shown any inclination towards that nor would my dating history show that, either. If anything, you seem to fear petite women with brains, and prefer women who have such low self esteem to let themselves be described as carrying junk anywhere.

      "Keep it real, dawg"...

  3. No surprise she teaches. Her manner reminds me of so many of the attractive academic woman I've met. Or,if you watch the science programs on the History channel, she is just like the female cosmologists and astronomers. Or, if you watch old Cheer's-Diane Chambers'ish!

  4. ..And how often does she remind her students that if your a pretty blond blue eyed white girl your odds to succeed are high? You'll never find one at the welfare line I bet.

    1. well you'd be wrong on that one. In fact, most people on welfare in the United States are........white.

  5. You must be joking. There is nothing special about her look, her presence, her personality... she is totally lackluster. In fact, on Sunday nights after the Apprentice when I watch her, before I am reminded to turn to channel 7, I wonder to myself why she doesn't put in just a little effort in to her appearance? The glasses, the blush-less face, the straight hair, her plain outfit choices, ugh. I would even go so far as to argue her delivery comes across as if she is irritated to be doing her job.

    1. Sooo... you willingly sit through an hour of Donald Trump, but are hypercritical of Diane Dwyer??

    2. Some folks see refined and understated as "plain" and "lackluster". Simply stated, the woman is not calling UNDUE attention to her features. I believe we refer to job first without mirror-mirror on the wallishness as professionalism. Perhaps if you had adult daughters who were professionl and highly educated this concept might not have escaped you

    3. 2:21, and 2:31 make some good points. I especially enjoyed 2:21.

Folks like 12:44 and likely 9:20 and 2:20 above too probably have never actually dated a real woman before.

  6. HI all -- Diane here -- Thanks Rich for the nice (if not embarrassing) post. It's interesting reading all the other posts - it's always tough to read criticism but that's part of the deal with the type of job. I really do love what I do (the weekend crew is incredibly fun and smart), and I try my best every weekend to provide important & interesting information to the viewers (we go a bit deeper into international news when it makes sense at 11).

The folks who taught me (at KTVU & NBC) how to tell a story and what questions to ask -- are the ones I am indebted too.

In the meantime, I am incredibly lucky for the career I've had and at the ripe age of 46 -- we'll see how long it lasts :). Off to work ...

    1. How cool for you to reply to Rich's blog here!

I really enjoyed you over at KTVU; I don't catch too many KNTV broadcasts, but when I've caught you over there on the weekends you're still as professional AND attractive as ever.

    2. Diane--
A "casual fan" here. Not being all that connected or addicted to one local news personality or another, I now realize that when I hear/see, "Diane Dwyer," I keep the channel on!

You are in a tough tough business. Hang in there girlfriend! 46 is the new 25!

I will be 60 next year and am trying not to let it freak me out.

  8. I work with Diane at NBC,and I have to say she is a very dedicated journalist who sweats the details (which is important in our jobs). That said -- I wish her goofy side could come across more on air -- she is very funny and silly, and you don't get to see that all that often on air (people are always surprised by her casual/no makeup/self-deprecating approach around the newsroom). She has taught me a ton.

  9. I know I sound like a re-run, but it's really sad that American men and women are so hung up on looks and makeup and clothes. What t he $#@@ cares? People in this country are so programmed by the visual media to judge others from an early age, and it's gotten beyond the point of absurdity in this nation.

We have one of the most obsese, unhealthy, under educated populations that we've ever had, yet so many veg out in front of the TV and turn their minds to mush to view crap such as 'reality' TV (that's a load of laughs, 'reality' my a...!)
or the trash tabloid shows that feature dysfunctional, self-absorbed individuals who just need to get out and exercise their bodies and brains.

Diane Dwyer is a very good broadcast journalist and a very good anchor. She's smart, and yes, she's good looking, but she doesn't have to 'strut her stuff' to prove it because she's got confidence and brains.

Anyone who judges her on her looks and her make up is
really in need of 'growing up.' Some of the previous remarks I've read on this blog sound as if they've been written by a 16 year old teenage boy who is bored, and likes to take out his girlie magazines because he's afraid to try and talk with a real woman because he's so lacking in confidence.

And this post was written by a guy, not a woman. There are actually a few of us guys out here in cyber land, who actually appreciate smart, confident women. My wife happens to be one of them and she's a lot more fun to hang out with than some of the
immature, liposuctioned, overly made up 'bimbos' who are in desperate need of male attention and approval because they lack confidence and never got the kind of positive feedback they really needed when they were kids from their own fathers.

    Very Sad!

  11. A Retrospective:
There have been many votes cast for all sorts of folks at the major bay area networks in Rich's Hot TV Anchor List. If we look at "anchors" only many of these individuals are worthy of mention.
I sent Rich, the self proclaimed guru of bay area media, a note
asking if any of the folks who read polls like this ever write
him to either praise his wisdom or despise his ignorance. No comment from Rich yet.
In the meantime Rich has updated his list to include Diane Dwyer
into his "hot" list. After further reflection I agree with his
opinion. Diane is a beautiful and intelligent anchor. I'm sorry she was not on my suggested "Best of the Rest".
Diane has however demonstrated far more than beauty and intelligence. Diane has exhibited a genuine sense of humility with her "reply" to Rich's lastest blog by not using an "anonymous" but her real name. She didn't whine or self promote rather she thanked her mentors, production team and others for her success. This was real CLASS!
While I still believe Vicki Liviakis is number one Diane moves to the top of the "Best of the Rest". She and Vicki are both Cal grads - go figure.

  12. I think Rich displays the maturity of a 13-year old boy with his "who is hot" crap. Leave that to the children at TMZ.

As for Ms Dwyer's news delivery, I for one appreciate her very much. She is not a drama queen (aka the Laura Garcia Cannon character on the weekday morning news). Diane just delivers the news straight up. Laura Garcia Cannon is unbearable with her flirty, winky delivery. I can't stand it and turn the channel. Diane is a polar opposite. (hurray!!!)
