I just received this note from KTVU's Rita Williams:
Rich, thanks so much for all the kind things you have said about my reporting through the years. I continue to love what I do. But when I retire in February, I will be just a few weeks shy of my 66th birthday and feel it is time to hand off the microphone to another generation. It has been a hard decision to make but, rest assured, the decision was mine...not management's. I am ready to discover a new chapter in my life and have lots of opportunities to pursue. And many thanks to all the faithful viewers who have sent me such lovely notes. It makes the last 40 years worthwhile to know that people noticed and appreciated the hard work I always tried to do.

Style and Class. Who is going to fill those shoes. Not Kris Kringle either or his BFF Rudy.
ReplyDeleteRita's 66? She looks fantastic! She's a class act and will be dearly missed.
ReplyDeleteRita Williams = Class personified.
ReplyDeleteMany people who make their living in the media business in the bay area have a lot to learn from this woman. I wish her all the best in her retirement.
Rita is smart, hard working, and has had the passion to be one of the most enthusiastic and respected broadcast journalists in bay area TV news history.
ReplyDelete40 years is a long time, and I know that she has probably zero regrets about the wonderful career she's had. Aspiring young women who are getting into the profession should look up to someone like Rita, because she's done it 'the right way.'
Congrats to you Rita. Enjoy your 'victory lap' t Channel 2 these next 8 months!
Rita-Stan gives you a thumbs up for non partial reporting. Unlike a Laura Anthony for example, where your agenda was obvious.
ReplyDeleteYou have had a fine career.
End of another era.
ReplyDeleteRita rocks!! I love her! She's a total class act among a sea of fluffy idiots.
ReplyDeleteThe work is the reward. Rita certainly had the wherewithal to take her many and admirable skills elsewhere, for far more financial gain and glory. She made a choice, and produced excellence on a daily basis- for decades. In today's language and expectations, that's almost inexplicable. I doubt we'll see many more examples of the professional life Rita has led. I join the many here thanking her for her work, her respect for the audience, and her example.
ReplyDeleteRita is 66? Wow - she looks great for any age. I am glad she clarified the issue Rich. It is good she is going out on her terms. 35 years is a long run and I wish her the best of luck. Of course I will continue to watch her reports until that faithful day in February when she signs off for the last time. Another class act in history. Hopefully the person who fills her shoes is equally as worthy.
ReplyDeleteWow. The only word I could come up with.
ReplyDeleteClassy words from a very classy lady!
ReplyDelete66? More like 36! Great reporter, classy lady, attractive smile!
ReplyDeleteRita reminds me of the teacher who cared...or the one who wrote songs like "Mill Valley"..like that.
