Hosting KSCO Today from 12-2 PM; Talking Media and Politics

I'll be talking media and politics on KSCO today, (Monday) from Noon-2 PM, (following Rush Limbaugh). We'll discuss a wide variety of topics involving radio, more specifically, talk radio and the new business model. And we'll discuss how talk radio impacts the presidential race.

You can listen live by clicking on the KSCO web site and look for the streaming audio link.

A first hour surprise guest.

  1. I'd listen but I clicked on it and got Rush Limbaugh. Sorry, some other time.

  4. KSCO is the keystone cops of radio.

Every time I turn it on, there's some technical problem. And more often than not, the topic is "what should we do with KSCO".

Here's an idea: become a professional radio station.

    Anyway, I'll listen to Rich.

    1. Hahaha you are spot on! The worst was when the owner held some bogus poll asking the audience: "Should KSCO dump or keep the Limbaugh show?" after his "slut" comment.

    2. After my brief flirting with the station after the KGO hirings, this was my experience as well. Brilliantly put and I can't stop laughing. Spot on.

  5. Great work Rich. Thank you for calling out the comedians Copeland and the NY witch. My only criticism is that you were way too short with callers. They barely got in a sentence or two and you dumped them. I agree with one of the callers, Kay Zwerling's op-eds make me ill

  6. Maybe Rich can explain what happened to the "major demo" against Cumulus that he reported breathlessly last week or the big scoop he teased with last week and never produced.

    1. Um well, er, ah, gee, he was so involved in the Ralph Barbieri "story", um, he got, ah, really really busy chasing down all those "facts".

      Yeah, that's the ticket.

  7. Wow! Great show, Rich! You really pinned KGO to the wall. Only problem was KSCO kept cutting out listening online - - had to keep re-entering the site. Wish you were on all the time.

  8. After following your blog for about 6 months this was the first time I heard you on the radio. I don't expect that because you blog and are critical of hosts that all of sudden you become Gene Burns or Rush. I thought you did a good job, I was wondering who your guests was going to be, but he/she didn't appear, too bad. I missed certain segments (phone call etc.) but got the jest of your show. I listen to Ronn for almost all of his 3 hours this am, something I haven't done in a long time, but today he sounded more like his old self, middle hour he had Phil Bronstein on, and they discussed headlines, politics, a very entertaining hour. I can't believe that the Comedian is on the same station as Ronn, she is really poor at expressing herself, sounds very simple and banal. Ronn is a professional, he has very good command of the english language, which I think should be a must for a talk show host, but I guess not anymore, when cumulus is in charge. I disagree with you about Randy Rhoades, yes sometimes she is longwinded, but she is smart, she is funny, I wish she had more callers. It sounds to me like most people want something sensational to move the so called needle. However, I like you, feel John Rothman is one of the best without being sensational, because of his knowledge, intelligence and throughout research, I guess many young people might find him boring, which is too bad. I'm afraid that many stations try to appeal to the lowest common denominator, which I have known for a long time. Always felt lucky we had KGO and thought we had a good, interesting, varied radio station, because the Bay Area audience wants that. Either the Bay Area audience is changing, or Cumulus doesen't care, perhaps a little of both.

  9. @3:48 - Cumulus doesn't care.

  12. I am disappointed to have missed this!

You probably get word last minute on these things, but for those of us without computer connection during the day (but radio connection in our work vehicles!), it would be so nice to know ahead of time.

Just would have been nice to have heard ya, Rich! No complaints--I am sure you post as soon as you get word....

@2:48--Major demos take time, dude! Hang tight!
