Lights out for KPIX 'Eye on the Bay'?

CBS 5 "Eye On The Bay" had a strange sign off the other night. Is it lights out for the nightly coffee table maggie featuring LEE-HAMM? I know you just can't sleep.

We'll check around.

  1. This has been the talk since the start of the 2011-12 TV season. PIX had yet to say what the post-Eye plans are. I can see 'Eye' being reduced to online air time or none at all. Hackney is already logging more weekend weather time, never mind all of the meteorological stories that have come cropping up the last several weekends. Bet that's part of his contract. Vu can return to regular reporting and part-time anchoring, while Mayclem can stick with his features, both on TV and KCBS Radio. Should be interesting.

    2. Clearly you don't know Liam, he's one of the least arrogant people in the business.

  3. There was a pic uploaded to the EOTB facebook page with a caption that read something like "Getting together for the last time" which had Brian, Liam, Thuy and all the behind the scenes people sharing a few cold ones at a local restaurant about a week or so ago.

    1. Wow, Brian actually lowered himself to the level of hanging out socially with his coworkers? Are you sure he wasn't photo-shopped into that photo? Probably a contractual obligation: Play nice on your way out of EOTB, or we won't give you the weekend weather gig.

  4. I think the best Liam bit was when he ran up to Brian Wilson during the Giants victory parade, and gave him a bear hug, then kept his arm around Wilson's shoulders all the time he asked him questions. It freaked Wilson out. When you can freak out Brian Wilson, you've really done something.
Too bad that Jim the Weather man on weekends for ch5 lost his job?..he seemed like a longtimer.

    1. Jim does weather during the week for KIEM in Eureka and commutes to SF on weekends for KPIX. If he's a goner from KPIX, he's probably relieved at no longer having a 300-mile commute twice a week.

  5. The strange sign-off may simply mean that production of new episodes has concluded. I would assume that they'll likely rerun the episode inventory until the "new" TV season in the Fall. I think it's doubtful that a "new" program would replace it now as the summer viewing TV doldrums begin.

  6. Sad to see this show go. One of the few shows I watched regularly. I'm sure we'll see even more news now.

  7. Maybe the fruitcake who took over Gene Burns Dining Show on 910 and this Liam can play with their food together somewhere but in this market? Is this the best San Fran has to offer for food hosts? Chef Ryan on KGONE? His partner is the sports reporter! There isn't one qualified food commentator that can host an intelligent program in one of the best food and wine areas in the world?

    1. An interesting dining program is presented on KQED weekly.

    2. What is that show? I am aware of the tv programs, but even their website does not list a Dining program or time for radio unless I am not looking in the right place. Is it local or nationally syndicated from somewhere else?

  8. Mayclem is such a tool that i'm glad to see him off the air. When there's a segemt with food and he does his stupid hiccup like act, I just want to reach into the tv and punch him out! Another annoying idiot gone. Yes I'm talking to you Mayclem!
