KNBR 9-Nooners Can't Name an Oakland A's Player

Yoenis Cespedes is eligible to come off the disabled list May 22.
Name me one A's player?, offered the Rad man and his co-enabler Monday morning on the Cumulus house shill station.

The old man and the betting fool on Knibber, ( 9-Noon) were yakking up why the Oakland A's barely get any attention on the albatross, KNBSF Giants.

And to a large degree, they're right. Giants' ratings on both radio and TV far outnumber the Athletics, no question.

But when Radu and sudden Giant's brown-noser Freddy Krueger can't name one A's player like, oh, say, Cuban sensation, Yoenis Cespedes, I rest my case. And if not for Josh Hamilton, a guy who hit two grand slams and a pair of three-run homers named Inge would have been player of the week.

There's two off the top of my head. Back to the yenta for traffic.

  1. How long before the 9-12 slot finally circles the drain and the halfwit PCon takes over the show and panders to the lowest common intellectual denominator? Bring us more stories about strip clubs and prerecorded blurbs about draft picks laced with double entendres.

We need more ads about guys who play in daily fantasy baseball leagues and make 200 grand in a month!

  2. So Rich, what do you make of the Grant Cohn- Anthony Davis twitter war?..any comments?

I caught near the end of the Raddy show and he was huffing and puffing how unfair it is to be picked as "it" in tag all the time. Hmm,little Gary was teased huh? That explains..

  3. He can't or he won't. I'm so glad I stopped listening to those Goobers and that station all together. My life is better for it.

  4. If you like the A's and continue to listen to KNBR, it's your own damn fault.

  5. I thought we were done talking about the three fingered hack for a while....can't wait until he is shown the door

  6. Rich, not surprising that you only publish comments from the few people who agree with you about Radnich. Says a lot about your integrity.

  7. Off the top of my head, name 5 A's:
Kurt Suzuki, Cespedes, Coco Crisp/Milton Bradley, Reddick............, hell I couldn't do it either!

    wait, Jameel Weeks!

    Close enough.

  8. I get a kick out of the noise and nonsense you hear every day on KNBR. It's good for about 15 minutes of chuckles, but that's about it. Unfortunately, there's very little substance and I don't learn anything new. They're not 'breaking any stories, and so it's just a casual approach for the casual sports fan who doesn't mind hearing references to celebrities such as Beyonce, Kanye West, or some second or third tier entertainer like Ashton Kushter (sic).

Unless one of the guys gets a good guest and asks some provocative and probing questions (not very often) there is very little to recommend on KNBR to listen to. Even their updates are just headlines and promos for the Giants. Cumulus doesn't have to worry though, because the Giants bring in ratings and revenue for six-seven months a year to save their bacon.

'The Game' isn't very dynamic either, but at least the new kids on the block are trying to talk sports and appeal to the hard core sports fan (not too many of those around these parts). 'The Game' is kind of like a poor man's version of ESPN radio, which really isn't much more than a bunch of rehashed nonsense, (unless they're carrying a game or a show like the one Jeremy Schapp hosts.

As for KNBR 1050 goes..."there is no there, there." Poor Damon Bruce...he loves to bloviate and tellall how much he knows about everything, but there he only gets a few loyal listeners. Still, I'd listen to Damon any time before wasting even a few minutes subjecting myself to any of the mediocrities between 6am and 3pm on KNBR.

  11. Krueger? I am surprised. Radnich? Not at all.

  12. Giambi!! No, scratch that.

    Big Mac!!! No, retired.

Reggie Jackson! No, he's embraced the Yankees.

Zito? Hudson? Scully and Mulder? Murdock, Baracus, Hannibal, and Face??

    Stomper???

Damn, it seems Korach's gotta give more than just the score every minute but some names too. At least until Beane hits the reset button again.

(Okay, a serious try: Weeks, Suzuki, Bartolo Colon, Crisp, Dallas Braden. How about coaches? Chip Hale.)

  13. Best part about the Giants run to the 2010 World Series? KNBR 680/1050 became so insufferable (among many other entities) that I stopped listening altogether and like commenter AV, my life is better for it.

    1. "if i ever see someone wearing that stupid shirt, i will punch them in the face."

I'm sure West Coast Gear is really interested and terrified.

    2. Oh, poor East Coaster can't take a little ribbing? Or maybe you work for ESPN who they seem to always make fun of? Those Commercials are hilarious! I totally agree with everything they say! I crack up at those and so does every Giants fan I know. I wish more commercials were that creative.

But the bad news for you is that I wear a West Coast shirt. And if you see me, I have a very strong feeling you will swallow your idea of "punching me in the face."

    3. No, he's right. Those commercials are the worst. The sales pitch is so lame and obvious. And Anonymous #3 ("oh, poor East Coaster...")... you sound like an employee of West Coast Gear. Either that, or you're deliriously positive about a blatantly dumb ad campaign.

Is there East Coast bias? Absolutely. Do West Coast teams get way too much pub? Yes. Am I going to buy someone's dumb T shirt/sweater that says "West Coast" on it? Hell no. Why would I buy that when I can buy a Giants/49ers (Raiders/A's) shirt?

LOL. So you buy Giants/49ers (Raiders/A's) shirts and they ***aren't*** giving you a "sales pitch"?

Whatever, man. I enjoy those spots and I did buy one of their shirts, so we can just agree to disagree. I'm surprised any real West Coaster would have such a weird attitude towards it cuz the stuff they say is pretty much true. Are you only ok with your West Coast "teams" making money? Why **shouldn't** they have an obvious sales pitch?

Anybody know if those spots are available online somewhere?

    5. Well I do agree with most of what he says, I guess my real qualm is that the guy in the ad sounds fake to me. Like he doesn't really care one way or the other, but is just saying what I want to hear to cash in. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on it like you said. If you like the shirt, by all means enjoy it.

    6. That's cool. I think he sounds pretty genuine but I admit that it's really the content that pulls me in. I've never heard anything like it. It just cracks me up to hear that guy going off on how messed up ESPN is and stuff. Some of the lines are priceless. Never heard anything like it except it does remind me just a little of maybe Jim Rome's style.

  15. Geez...where did you get that anger man? You need to go out and take a walk my friend. Even if you don't mean what you say (and I sincerely hope you're joking), that's one of the many things that's truly wrong with this country:

People saying they're "going to kick someone's ass!" I guess that's why the steroid-driven, edgy-angry Ultimate fighters are so popular. There must be a lot of angry, edgy people like you out there! I hope you don't act like that when you get behind the wheel of your car and some poor schlub is driving too slow in front of you!

  16. I've given up on local radio completely (except when Greg Papa is in the wheelhouse) and switched to Sirius/XM. The John Kincade Show is a great show on ESPN Radio Sundays 4-7 am PST. KNBR will carry the first hour, then go to the Commonwealth Club (great for insomniacs), Sam "Sport of Kings" Spear, and the myriad of monotone money managers. Thank God for Sirius/XM, no public service commitments or infomercials on weekends.

Somebody keep a looky out for a short boy in overalls, puff'in and suck'in air while smok'in a cig in Golden Gate Park with a bow N arrers. That be our "special" boy there not right in the hade Pecon, I reckon.

  18. I ripped your comment on KNBR and Radnich/Krueger not because I like them, but because I have heard them discuss the A's before, and yeah, specific players, too. So, your point was no point at all. You chose not to publish it. How bout publishing this one, crusader?...
