Radnich pulls the Race Card on KNBR; Asks 'If Tim Tebow were Black...?'

Gees, this takes a lot of profound study.

Exhibit A: How to juice up the morning buzz on a radio show in San Fran? Ask a theoretical stupid, racist-to-the-max question devoid of thought and reason.

Gary Radnich, a little unsure of himself and lacking a vision, asked on his Thursday KNBR show: "If Tim Tebow were black, would he be getting all this attention?"

Gees, Gary, good one. If you weren't a white boy, would you be on KNBR?

We could drone on and on about what insensitive drivel Raddy brought to the table with his attempt to become Geraldo, but why waste all this good time and energy. It should be noted that Radnich is married to a black woman. Maybe he thinks that gives him cover to ask such a ridiculous question, but hey, gotta pay the bills.

  1. I heard the same thing + his rant about snitchers in the work place. The guy is just too much for me - no more for me.

  2. Rich,

When it comes to Radnich, you are like the right wing Obama haters who criticize every thing he does.

It's evident that you despise Radnich and it doesn't really matter what he says or does, you rant and rave.

There was nothing particularly offensive about the comments in question and I happen to like the Radnich show as so many others.

How about saving your venom for when it's deserved, (like when that tool Bob Fitzgerald blatantly shills for his employer, Joe Lacob), otherwise you lose credibility

    1. Observer man-Radnich's question doesn't even make sense. WHAT did it mean? what was he asking? There are black QB's in the NFL,there are a ton of highly religeous players in the NFL-you ever see all that pregame prayer stuff?
I heard him ask..but it was so schticky,I didnt stay to hear what was said after that.
And Raddy should really lay off "The brothers" talk..it sounds so condescending to African Americans and like a fantasy of a wealthy white elderley man who thinks he's a teen street kid.
What RADDY wont try and wonder is...would Krueger be sitting next to him on KNBR if HE were black? THAT,Radman wont contemplate...

    2. Gary never makes sense but you guys continue to listen and profess how much you hate the show.

    3. Listen to the show? Can't believe he's still on the air. I gave up on the bloated old man a very long time ago. At least Comcast had the smarts to run his ass off both the Giants and 49ers postgame shows. He was a disgrace and they knew it.

  3. Radnich used to be irreverent and funny. He was direct and would talk about things on air that others didn't. Now that every one is irreverent, his act is just tired and irrelevant. Too bad because I used to think he brought something to the table no one else was.

  5. I have to agree with 10:18. I enjoy this blog, and have found good information here. But for sure, Fitz is infinitely worse than Radnich. Infinitely.

  6. Gary is the Tim Whatley of radio, he married black so he could be insulated from his racist commentary.
By the way, Tim Whatley is the dentist from Seinfeld who converted to Judaism for the jokes

    1. I hope you are kidding. No can seriously accuse Radnich of racist commentary. He seems a little old-fashioned about some things but seems to be open to all kinds of people, his marriage certainly suggests that.

  8. The post at 11:09 make some valid and honest points.
Radnich comes across so patronizing when he uses the term "brother" as if this validates him to the black community or to any other minority group.
He sounds like someone who is trying desperately to impress his friends as to how tolerant he is.

  9. 10:17, I wanted to add on. Rich, did you hear Radnich's bizarre "anti snitch" rant. He seemed to imply that "snitches" at KNBR who "leak" stuff to people like you (and he obviously meant you and Bay Area Sports Guy) were worse than Jeremy Shockey, who allegedly leaked the Saints' bounty program. I thought he was trying to make a lame joke but as it went on, he was pretty serious.

  10. Then el stevo..you read every post on Raddy, knowing it will be brutal honesty, that you dont like. Its like the turtles on turtles to infinity..
But-so does KNBR read every post too! And they NEVER agree..

  11. And whats the deal with Radich CONSTANTLY professing love for Krueger? Its like Kreugers a 8 year old d'iffernt strokes kid..homeless and needing charity and self confidence as Raddy goes on and on with Larry is the greatest at this and that and he loves Larry, and more latent homo erotica...then Raddy makes fun of Harbaugh for beating on Alex Smiths shoulder pads.
    Go figure.

  12. Ratsnitch is a sad sack host. He is just limping along and irrelevant. He is not engaging with callers, interrupts everybody and yells when no else is yelling. The Bruno segment was the only saving grace. Once Bruno was thrown out most smart listeners took a walk too

  13. On 1050- a strange Damon Bruce rant on a text conversation between he and Krueger over how THEGAME's format is so bad. He got into the way THEGAME announces "Coming up, after.."..and Bruce crowed proudly that HE doesnt talk about whats next he talks the present.
No,I didnt really get the difference since KNBR does teases like every station. And Raddy has mentioned "the other sports station"..while admitting KNBR's ratings were down (THAT had to be a brain cramp from Raddy)..and its this reminder of THEGAME that has whistling in the dark "We aint scared" feel to it.
And with text,NCAA..I never thought the day would come when KNBR would copy THEGAME.
    It has.

  14. Radnich and Bruno were terrific together. If you listen to Radnich by himself, however, his schtick becomes way too overpowering -- blunt, repetitive, boorish. He needs a straight man to play off of or it doesn't work. I think that's why the Krueger pairing works fairly well, better than Radnich and Bruce, because Krueger is willing to ride shotgun, play it straight and play the foil to Gary's lead.

When Radnich and Bruce were paired together, both wanted to drive the car. It was like Abbot and Abbot instead of Abbot and Costello. Sorry I used that comparison (I am not implying Radnich holds a candle to those two entertainment legends) but just trying to illustrate a point.

My problem with Radnich is that he's more interested in schtick than actual sports talk, yet he's on a sports talk station. He even admits it. I'd be ok with that if it was consistently entertaining. In my opinion, it isn't.

I'll give Radnich this, however. He is the best interviewer at KNBR, bar none. Really a pro at getting more from a guest than the usual stock responses.

  15. Sunset boy's analysis is excellent. Perhaps the best breakdown of Radunich I've seen. I believe at the core Radunich is a very insecure man with control issues. He HAS to be the MAN by ANY means necessary. The more talent a colleague has, the more threatened he feels and the louder he screams. (You can tell the type of personality he has by how giddy he gets when telling the story of how he supplanted Pete Liebengood). Very primitive mind if you think about it. The problem is that although he thinks he is some sort of hot Alpha Male, he is an over the hill hack who now relies on an expensive car and younger wife to show he still "has it". We can all see through his charade, especially that hot weather gal on KRON, her forced cackles at Radunich's humor are priceless. He remains on air because of shrewd ass kissing and back stabbing. This is a man who will have to be pulled off the stage by force. He lacks the depth and class of Dennis Richmond and Bob Melrose. He will refuse to go into that good night. I can see Radunich in a sanatorium like Salieri in the Amadeus film. Give it a couple of years...

  16. Listen to the sports channels on Sirius and you will NEVER listen to KNBR again because Sirius also carries the Giants and 49ers as a feed from KNBR. Not sure about the Warriors. Haven't cared about them since the 1970s.

When you sign up, I recommend buying a receiver and speakers. You can tape the shows you like while you are at work or play and come back and listen to them at your convenience.

You'll forget about Radnich, except when he's held up as a caricature of a tired, old, talentless man who replaced a great guy on KRON in the 1980s. I stopped watching KRON sports then (that was when KRON was the best news show. Now it's crap.)

  17. One more for the "There is no more racism" in the media crowd-You ever see a black man,Asian,or Latino in a Land Rover,BMW,Saab or Jaguar commercial? Even Mercedes..they might be driven around and covered in dirt..but they aint driving it are they in those commercials?
HELL-You ever see a black guy in a full sized Chevy or Ford pickup commercial?
Now,let the "I'm the racist to point this out" crowd to argue that...

    1. You ever see anyone but a white man made fun of in a commercial? About a year or so ago, a credit card company was running an ad in which a white man was "foolishly" using the competitor's card, and falls down a slope while a confident black man was using the "correct" card and looked down at the white man with a smug look of contempt.

Great oppressive advertising. Yeah, the white man rules all...

How much rap/crap do you hear advertising stuff these days? A lot! How much of that rap/crap is inherently racist/misogynist to begin with? And from which cohort did rap/crap begin with?

No, Stan... the white man is not the oppressor anymore. The very wealthy man is. And for your information, the wealthiest man in the world is Mexican, Carlos Slim. Not white....

  19. It doesnt really work that way in reality 9:13. A perfect example without a long post? Do white people get burning angry at being called Honky or Cracker at the country club?..or do they usually laugh and think the name caller a nut? Call a blackman a..well-I cant even post the word past the filter. See what happens when you say that word outloud at a hip hop concert and your white with red hair..
I know we could go back and forth forever...but the best jobs are white dominated-are they not? Remember-NEVER a local BLACK pbp announcer in ANY sport in the bay area..that includes Roller Derby!

How about in the"hip hop" industry? A lot of white people there? No? Hmmm... sounds racist to me... (if I wanted to play the victim/race card...)
