**When it's a slow news day and the lottery surpasses $350M, expect a ton of live shots from liquor stores on Tuesday night and the usual suspects in fine journalistic mode:
Schmuck reporter to guy who's buying tickets: "So, what would you do with $350M?" Uh, maybe go to the moon and turn your behind off.
This is what is known as lazy reporting 101A. It's what a radio talk-show host does to attract callers: have a physic on and the lines light up. Lazy.
Granted, the pot has risen to over 300 mill, but so what? Yeah, it's a news story all right but a mere mention with some video is all that's needed, not the usual "Our Lidia is live at 7-11 in Walnut Creek..."with 80 morons in line that think they'll win.
I'm a moron. I bought $10 worth of tickets.

*Mike Nicco and Jennifer Jones-Lee constant morning chirping/giggling on KGONE: Cruel and unusual punishment.
*Yeah, Kruk and Kuipe both make over a million, but they're not a part of the local TV news club. And, oh, by the way, neither is Greg Papa of Comcast hovering in the mid six figures. Fitz and the angry LSU guy? Not even close.
*My salary? Considerably lower than the coin I was making prior to 2007. That said, life is good and sober. 74 straight days.
*Memo to Brandon Tierney: your hour with Eric Davis on Monday from 6-7 was very good, funny, insightful radio. Especially liked the phoner with Rich Gannon. Why can't you just do that every day and 86 the screaming and yelling? 'Nuff said.

Heard on ronns show, when he interviewed Mike Huckabee that Huckabee will be on KSFO starting April 9? Who is he replacing? Inquiring mind wants to know.
ReplyDeleteFat-boy Huckabee is a bore and Ronn having him on, if fat-boy is going to be on the fascist station, is a sell-out to management. But, then, we're talking about Ronn Owens, who has also become a big bore. I tune in once every two weeks or so, and I quickly tune out so I don't fall asleep. Maybe the unreformed congressman on KSFO is gonna get the boot. He's about as good as Huckabee. I would rather watch the caricature of the overpaid KPIX weatherwoman who needs a different wardrobe. By the way, Stacy Taylor said high, KPIX weatherwoman. He said he's your buddy. Would you like me to tell Stacy anything, since he's such a bud?

ReplyDeleteI like Jennifer Lee and Mike Nicco chirping/giggling in the a.m. They lighten up my morning while providing information that I desire. I'm not thrilled with their station in general however. Early morning news I switch between them and KSCO (avoid 8:00-8:10 a.m.).

I agree about KGO. Jennifer Jones Lee is fun and a total pro. Not thrilled about KGO/Cumulus (I miss LLY and real talk radio), so I don't listen. But I still respect the real reporter pros that are left.
DeleteSpeaking of Southern listeners I gave up on KGone and it has given me a chance to see what else is out there. Started out with KSCO and then found KRXA 540 Carmel. Not big on Stephanie Miller but they have CBS news and then coach does the local stuff which I like. KGOne has been a boon for many small stations by encouraging loyal listeners to cruise the dial and see what else was out there.

Jennifer Jones Leigh is a pain in the ass to listen to, especially on FRIDAAAAAAAAYS. Some people like the delivery of a dumb blond from the valley. I don't and even less for news delivery. I prefer the voice of Kim Mccallister, she is the blackest sounding white girl in the Bay.
DeleteI agree with Don at 12:43. I've found some listenable stuff on the lesser stations and enjoy it. Never would have tried to find other stuff when KGO was KGO and not KGOne as it is now. I've been listening to KSRO from Santa Rosa even though I don't live in Sonoma County. I like Dr. Joy Brown from 1-3.

I was the one in Jan who said Rich- Teirney and Davis had turned the shows quality up a few notches, here on 415RL Media. The back and forth became more intense and less "Your my pal" that KNBR beats to death. They might be the best sports show on local radio.

So many local shows I know I could improve.Only,most don't want to improve.
