KGO's Owens silent on Lockyer Story--Maybe it's not 'local' enough

Not.a.word.

The man who promotes and loves the new "local" albatross radio station hasn't said a word about the Bill/Nadia Lockyer story.

I just wonder why.

But I do know he'll "trash the Oscars."

  1. Prediction on today's Ronn show:

    -Jennifer Lopez's areola.
    -The Iranian guy's acceptance speech.
-Heaps of praise for Billy Crystal.
    -Seacrest, Nolte.

-an obligatory mention of the Lockyer story (to silence critics), won't take any calls on it though.

    1. Yep, the Lockyer story goes into the same circular file as the KGO bloodbath. Two LOCAL stories that most hosts on KGO won't touch.

  2. interesting point...but that applies to other hosts also...didn't know a thing about it until Christine Craft discussed it this week-end...happily, for me, she was on subbing for people this week-end and was in fine form..

  5. Perhaps pundits will comment on the Lockyer story when it is possible to sort out fact from fiction. Based on the Mattier and Ross COLUMN that you linked to, we're not there yet; nobody has any real idea what's going on yet anyway, so it's probably a good move to shut the f up about it until the dust settles, anyway.

You want to know what's going on with the Lockyers, ask a REPORTER. It's NEWS.

    1. Since when did Ronn or others fail to discuss breaking gossip?

People could be asked, "Do you think one or both Lockyers should resign?" That IS news! Public opinion!

There does seem to be enough to make comments on right now.

    2. What? Owens is the 2nd busiest Yenta in the Bay Area!

    3. To 10:33 AM,

Contra Costa Times published an article about the messy affair more than a week ago. Here's a disturbing text Mrs. Lockyer sent to her former lover on December 26, 2011 per the article.

"You stole my house key AND a radioshack giftcard. If you don't return both ASAP tonight (or the Iphone you got with card) by leaving them both at our front door TONIGHT -- Bill's security will have to take you into custody. Just leave it at door asap -- before its too late -- please. We're far away."

Last night KGO-TV contacted Mr. Lockyer to comment but he declined to do so. This story won't go away quickly.

  6. That bit of info is on "par" for our local Media outlets....They turn their heads, look the other way, and remain silent on many important news stories in the bay area.

  7. Where can I get a copy of that tape?

  8. My own opinion on this is that Nadia Lockyer is the bad guy in this situation. Yes, this guy married a 30-years younger women (big mistake) but she sounds like a troubled woman. Two stints in rehab, affairs, etc.....I think the stain is on her. Bill only kept quiet, and who wouldn't?

    1. Yes, they were married when she was several months pregnant and he was running for some kind of office. Being married rather than having a pregnant girlfriend made him more electable even if she was 30 yrs younger.

Besides the CC Times/Oakland Tribune article, Matier and Ross had another column yesterday about new developments . Tammerlin Drummond had a column the other day about it as well. So it's not just speculation. The boyfriend also says he is not an ex-boyfriend. This is the kind of stuff that local talk shows ALWAYS run with. None of them have shied away from the Ross Mirkarimi case. This is somewhat similar.

    1. She's a county supervisor who still hasn't resigned. Her innamorata is trying to blackmail an extremely important state official(the state Treasurer-the person who determines California's investment portfolio) with a sex tape...what's the story??? you must be kidding.

  10. no fann of ronn, but i fail to see the reason you chastise him for not bringing up this story on his show.

rich, could you or your commenters, explain why this story is so important or relevant that anyone should be focused on it? if it is an important story, what reason are you alleging that owens is ignoring it?

    1. I don't care about the gossip factor. I care about Alameda County and the taxpayers who are paying this drug-addicted county supervisor. There is a fiduciary and other interests. Are you that blind? At least Rich isn't like the idiots on KSFO who are running this story non-stop.

Brian Sussman and Melanie Morgan are getting a real charge out of it. I think they are titillated by it. Intriguing.

Regarding another topic, hey Suss and Morgan, why can't you call the First Lady, First Lady, and President Obama, President Obama?

In past years, you BOTH have said you didn't like it when people didn't refer to former First Lady Laura Bush as something other than the first lady and you both said that you didn't like it when people referred to former President Bush by another moniker, esp. if it were negative. You BOTH said not using the proper names regarding First Lady and President Bush was "disrespectful."

Why the contradiction with relation to President Obama and the First Lady?

You are both hypocrites and you make real conservatives cringe because you are both so intellectually challenged.

Don't think your "success" on radio is something to be proud of. It is something to be despised.

      From a "fellow" conservative.

    2. It's important because these are elected officials who are supposed to be serving the public. While embroiled in this type of scandal, they don't have the time or attention to do the job we're paying them for. The more this is brought up and discussed in PUBLIC, the greater likelihood these types might be shamed and reconsider running for office and let those who aren't so troubled take over.

    3. thanks. good answer. but why in the face of it newsworthiness, do you suppose owens is not discussing this on his show?

    4. Only reason I can think of is that Ronn and Bill always have sort of a love-fest going on when he visits Ronn's program. Ronn seems to admire him and all his years of "service" as a (highly paid) politician. Lockyer is a career politician. Has he done anything else but politics? So, since they're friends, maybe he doesn't want to face the fact that Lockyer's a jerk.

  11. I wish Bill and Nadia nothing but the best. Having their lives plastered in the headlines must be humiliating.

    1. If they were behaving themselves and just doing their jobs, their personal lives wouldn't be plastered in the headlines. Their behavior is humiliating, not the coverage of it.

  12. Perhaps one of the saddest stories in recent local political history. A aging politician (Bill Lockyer) with a massive ego marries a troubled woman thirty years his junior. He buys her an election. She crumbles under the pressure and makes a series of terrible downward spiral laden decisions culminating in an additional series of attempted influence moves and "dreamworld denial statements" made by the ego blinded Bill Lockyear. Take Bill, Nadia and throw Mary Hayashi on to the heap and get rid of them yesterday.

    1. MASSIVE EGO??? Bill Lockyer? you obviously don't know him. ASk the people who work for him. He is extremely well-liked precisely because he DOESN'T have a massive ego and is incredibly supportive of his staff and their families...he has always been well-regarded by the "little " people.

      Delete
    2. If you don't think a man who marries a woman half his age, buys her an election then minimizes his spouse's downward spiral/transgressions is not blinded by a massive ego your thought process is blurred beyond reason. Being "well liked" and "supportive to your staff" does not nullify a massive ego...

    3. dear 11:44...I did an hour on the subject of Bill Lockyer's ill-advised coupling with someone thirty years younger. I'm betting you don't know Bill Lockyer. I went to law school with him, covered him when I was a tv reporter/anchor in Sacramento, and as a California Applicant's attorney have directly seen his considerable efforts of behalf of California's injured workers. He's a great guy. He does not have a massive ego. He made a bad marital choice and in your world that means he has a massive ego. Lots of people make bad marital choices. That doesn't make them evil. Quite frankly, the way a boss treats underlings is a very important indicator as to their character. IN that regard, Bill is just stellar. As attorney general of this state, he is the ONLY one who stuck to his guns and got billions of dollars for our state from the energy companies who gamed California. As treasurer he has guided investments off the shoals of fiscal destruction many times. It is my sincere hope that he and Diego (his boy) get through this hideous trauma without too much damage. That said, I think it is absolutely an important topic to talk about, and I have.

More like savvy! Thanks Christine! I have known Bill a long time and know many folks who have worked for him. You are totally spot on.

    3. This is "lurid" only because of who's involved. If it was the head of the I.M.F. and a prostitute maid, let's say, it would be no big deal. From the outside it looks like direct-to-cable soft core. What's up with having to record every moment of your personal life? I don't even comprehend the concept of a "sex tape". (is it still a tape, or is it more correctly, a sex dvd?)Who does that, seriously? Besides extortionists.

      Delete
    4. Stacy...so funny...extortionists and contortionists..playing to the camera and all! As the tech keeps changing, a sex "tape" will become as obsolete as the old standard, "Film at eleven".
