Sorry for the late Friday post...
Have been listening to Ed Baxter and Rosie Allen on NewsTalk 910. Nice show. Considering that Baxter and Allen haven't done a whole lot of news-talk, this combo is worth exploring on a permanent basis once the status of Gene Burns begins to emerge.
Gene Burns Update:
I respect the privacy of Mr. Burns and hope his recovery is going as well as I've been told from his personal assistant.
There are those of you who have asked, repeatedly, as to why it's been a long trail for Burns. The truth is, Burn's myriad of health issues the past few years would have placed an immediate kaput on any talk of recovery and return to the airwaves.
Burns is getting better, I'm told, and he's been out of the hospital for some time; he's in no condition to begin his show on 910 AM, but I'm going to take the word of his trusted adviser. His fans want to know and are eager for his return.
I think they speak for many.

Ed and Rosie are a wonderful team...better together than separately. They are funny and caustic with each other almost like they are a long-married couple. Since they are doing fill-in on KKSF, they must have some interest in continuing Newstalk...SIGN THEM UP!
ReplyDeleteContinued well wishes to Mr. Burns. I hope he is aware of how much he is missed.
Rich you are so right. If the people at 910 were smart,(and I think they are)they would talk Ed and Rosie into doing a show even after Gene returns.Once a week on Sunday perhaps? It would sure beat the awful weekend selection we have now. My best wishes for Gene.
ReplyDeleteEd and Rosie are great. I really wish they would have a regular spot.
ReplyDeleteI only wish Mr. Burns the best with his recovery.
I love 910, listen to it every day.
Thanks for the update on Gene. It really says something for 910 to keep his show open and the stellar list of guest hosts is welcomed to those of us who really miss our KGO family. Now if one of them would be hired permanently from 7 to 10 or later, then a lot of former KGOne listeners would rejoice. We need them to bring out the best in us, and with an election looming, the give-and-take of the listeners is much needed.
ReplyDelete7:15pm I would like to second your post. It really does say something special about 910 to hold Gene's show available and allow the steller line up of great former KGO hosts to fill in for Gene while he's recuperating. I very much miss Gene and wish him a full and speedy recovery.
DeleteThank you for respecting the privacy of Mr. Burns's condition for the most part. While I am a critic of yours a majority of the time due to your need to reveal info (seemingly getting a high off of it) before someone whom actually works for the institution who is directly effected, I do think you are handling this situation in a respectful manner. I manner in which Gene fully deserves. Again I thank you.
ReplyDeleteEd and Rosie are great, especially in that time slot.. They are up beat, smart, funny, and keep the topics alive, and they are easy to listen too. Keep them there, add a little news stuff in with them for the drive timers, KGO wont have a chance!! and then put Gene back on the later spot. AND... Its Election year, Get John Rothman in there on a daily schedule, should be a NO BRAINER! THOSE SYNDICATED PROGRAMS SUCK!!
ReplyDeleteMOST OF ALL, GET WELL GENE! We sure miss his unique and special talent, weather he ever returns or not, Im sure we all want him to have a high quality of life. Live well gene.
The Gossip file, just for fun. I love the two of them working together.
ReplyDeleteI also thoroughly enjoy Ed and Rosie. Interesting and entertaining. I remember when Gene was ill the last time and I thought he would never come back, but he did, and after about the first week, you couldn't tell he had been sick.
ReplyDeleteI just wish the reception for 910 didn't fade when it gets dark and that it was better on my drive home from work. It's great on the computer however.
Maybe you all heard if you listened to Ed and Rosie today, but they will be substituting next week on Wednesday AM (for Armstrong and Getty) and doing Friday afternoon as well.
ReplyDeleteI hope Gene gets better. Ed & Rosie are really good.
ReplyDeleteEd and Rosie are fascists. I'm sorry I won't be able to hear Gene.
ReplyDeleteJoanne
Great to know Ed and Rosie are back on the air. I look forward to tuning in and I know that all of us who have worked with them in the past wish them the very best!
ReplyDeleteI was not a big fan of Ed and Rosie on KGOne, but now, on 910, they are a pleasant surprise.
ReplyDeletePut a fork in Burns, he is done
ReplyDeleteObviously he is not able to handle a daily show due to his ongoing health issues
Ed and Rosie are up to the task, sign them up
Move Burns to more of a "Featured" role on 910, place Ed and Rosie in his slot and allow them to build a show/following
The "KGO All-Stars" will be filling in for vacationing Armstrong and Getty next week 6-9 AM on 910. Ironically, Joe Getty used to constantly bash "Special Ed" Baxter on the show.
ReplyDeleteI wish to God that 910 would use some of the ex-KGO talent in the evening! I can't listen from 4-7, but really would like some decent talk from 7-10 and beyond.
ReplyDeleteI would love if they put John Rothmann in that spot. Colmes is nowhere near as bright.
DeleteEd and Rosie were good.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't Gene retire and move to beautiful "Sonoma Valley ... the real Wine County".
ReplyDeleteGood wishes are extended to Mr. Burns. There is no doubt in my mind he will return. We've seen him make tremendous recoveries in the past. He is the Joe Montana if radio hosts. Always victorious against the Grim Reaper!
ReplyDeleteAs to Baxter and Allen I agree wholeheartedly. Look how much better Baxter is when teamed up with a classy pro instead of a giggling dim wit who yells: "It's Fridaaaaaaay"
Leave Lloyd Lindsay Young alone! What did he ever do to you???
DeleteAlan Colmes is now my favorite show from 7-10. I look forward to it every night.
Delete2:36 It's Fridaaaaaay is referring to Jennifer Jones Lee, not LLYoung.
DeleteI could do without the crack about Jennifer. She's smart and cheerful. I like her as well as Ed and Rosie. They are all unique in a good way. Actually, for morning news, I always preferred Jennifer to Rosie. Different tastes. Maybe we do agree that Gene Burns has our best wishes and that KGO sucks.
DeleteRemember Jessica Rabbit's line from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"? "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way".
ReplyDeleteSimilarly, Gene Burns isn't pompous, he just sounds that way. I miss his voice.
It's impressive how many people have posted such positive and encouraging statements about Gene.
In the meanwhile, yay Ed and Rosie! Radio 910, you have such a great opportunity to capture all of the former KGO listeners. Sign up the Allstars!
Ed and Rosie a winning team, very good. It is great to hear them while I drive home and at home. Come to think about it i would not be listing to the radio at home if they were not on.
ReplyDeleteBaxter used to annoy me in the a.m. when teamed up with JJ Lee; in fact, both of them annoyed me. But he sure sounded good with Rosie when I caught them on Friday. Made me long for the good old days. I wish Gene Burns nothing but the best and hope we hear his voice again soon. I will be sure to listen to Baxter and Rosie next week in the a.m. on 910.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't I get 910 on my radio after dark?
I always enjoyed Ed and Jen.
DeleteEd and Rosie are a snore when they are alone, but together...loves it!
ReplyDeleteActually Ed is kind of interesting alone, but together, WOW!
DeleteI'm convinced that the reason Ed and Rosie are so good together is that they worked for years on the news side, and they have a real affection and respect for each other. And this comes through on radio. We can hear it.
ReplyDeleteI miss you Gene Burns and wish you the very best. Hoping that in the future, we hear your voice again. No one says "bloviate" better than you do.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Mr. Burns! His topics are always engaging and he keeps his show moving at a nice pace, not the same question rehashed for 2 hours.
ReplyDeleteEd and Rosie haven't missed a beat after being apart 10.5 years. I used to love them on the KGO Afternoon news. They were a perfect on-air match. Now, I love hearing them again with a little opinion thrown in.
ReplyDeleteRich, I'm typing this a couple days late so I hope you see it. I read so many complimentary comments of the management of KKSF, please convey to them some of the comments posted here, especially those thanking them for keeping the Gene Burns show held open for him during his convalescence.
ReplyDeleteHate to say this, but at Gene's age and with his many health issues, and with so many talk show hosts all over the country looking for jobs, including ones with kids still to raise, I think he should just be a substitute and give way for the slot to someone else on a regular basis. I wish him all the best, but he's been off the air more than on the last couple of years.
ReplyDeleteI wish Gene Burns a speedy recovery. I listen every night to hear if he will be back at the microphone, but no Gene. I am thankful for all his colleagues filling in such as John, Gil, Rosie and Ed and Jim. But I am awaiting Gene's return to the airwaves. I hope he doing better and can soon host his program. Please get well Gene you are missed by all your talkshow fans.
ReplyDeleteKKSF, With all due respect to Allan Colms, please Get John Rothman on that 7 to 10 slot. You might want to consider getting rid of Armstrong and Getty as well and put Ed and Rosie in that slot.
ReplyDeleteNow that will get the station cookin'
I completely support the comments above.
