NBC Bay Area adds Investigative Reporters; How Bruce coverage of PState/Paterno scandal hit homer; ESPN invades Stanford; Saturday notes

*NBC Bay Area, (KNTV), with some cash infusion from corporate, NBC, has hired two, new investigative reporters, Jenna Susko, and Bay Area native, Tony Kovaleski.

Both are solid pros, and ostensibly, will be highly promoted throughout the Bay Area airwaves. Whether that translates to higher ratings is another story.

*It bears repeating: Damon Bruce' solid work on KNBR 1050 regarding the whole, sordid Penn State/Paterno/Sandusky scandal was first rate--too bad the other alleged hosts on Knibber didn't have a clue of how to properly dissect the story.

The whole affair was radio talk-show fodder; chock full of grisly details that even Hollywood couldn't devise. But the bottom line is an alleged scandal of immense proportions that transcends sports.

And it was there where Bruce' work eclipsed even some seasoned veterans. He didn't resort to phony sports cliches and refer to "how the affair will affect the PState football team", as one of the morning yahoos stated it. (affect the team?--give me a fucking break!)

My own thought, for what it's worth: why the hell is PState playing a game at all this week? Have we all lost our mind? Yes, Pogo was right: "We have met the enemy and he is us."

*ESPN and its minions invade Palo Alto Saturday for the Stanford-Oregon college football showdown. Welcome, Bristol brats.

*Memo to Tierney, benign tonsil of the FM outpost: keep 'em coming. I like the bitch-slaps--by the way, do you do windows?

  1. Damon Bruce is an alum of a Big 10 (same conference as Penn State) school: Indiana, class of 1998

  2. Only one of ESPN 's anchors seems to be a real human..The black guy with glasses who has had the guts to stand up to Lou Holtz who has done nothing but wring his hands for Penn State football. Holtz has been nothing but callous and just used a token of words for those kids. Otherwise he's been a Bill Romonowski,Mike Ditka,Matt Millen,..and Tom Bradley the fill in coach has been a disgrace on another level. Not a one of them has seemed to notice Paterno was FIRED for enabling a child rapist for a decade and a half..even offering the school as a cheap motel for making children into sex toys. JOE KNEW - THAT should be the T-shirts students should be wearing.
ESPN has been the true gutless wonder. Going to Paterno backers..yet children's sex abuse counselars and doctors..nothing..not one to testify of the damage Penn State has caused. Very conspicuous has their absence been on mighty ESPN.

  3. Damon Bruce did an excellent job. Agree.

Gary Radnich on the other hand never reads newspapers outside the entertainment section.
As a result it was difficult for him to speak intelligently about the Penn State scandal.

  5. All anyone has to do is to Google "The Grand Jury Indictment Of Jerry Sandusky" to see how sick & horrific this whole ordeal truly is...

This Monster Sandusky should NOT be out on Bail, he should be in jail for the rest of his effing LIFE!

  6. Lets just "Hope" that KNTV truly does some Investigative Reporting...But I have my doubts that they will...

Cause the 1st issue they should investigate is the "Scam" election that the Yorks/49ers Paid for & Bought, for their So Called Stadium in Santa Clara...

  9. Enough with the holier-than-thou attitude and righteous indignation, please. Nail the people who engaged in a cover-up, but don't take it out on the students and the team.

  10. Funny how the young, brash, not a true san franciscan schools you all on sports journalism.

  11. In other news, Jerry Sandusky's autobiography was pulled off Amazon.com. The name of the book is "Touched". Seriously.

  12. Gary's prep work is listening to Colin Cowherd on his drive in.
Putting him w. Damon Bruce exposed him.

"He must be pretty good he has had the job for a long time"
    Joe Buck, McCarver, Paterno, himself,

it is obv his sales pitch for keeping his job @ KNBR.

And his comments about Penn State were pathetic "From 3000 miles away your saying Joe is guilty" 3000 miles??? This 2011, yes Gary, we can read indictments from 3000 miles away.

I knew more about the case from listening to D Bruce's Monday show.

Funny that you say that. I listen to Cowherd instead of the KNBR morning show and sometimes catch a little of Radnich, he does repeat, even the takes of Cowherd.
I've been thinking the same thing.

  14. Radnich-its like seeing senility in action..you can see it erode whatever Radnich was. He's stealing from Cowherd,Stern..even Paul Lynde's voice is heard. On Comcast Kreuger's putting on the fake smiles at Radnich's weird persona. Gary gives me the creeps..
    yuck,back to Regis..
