B and C teams on Bay Area TV/Radio; Thanksgiving weekend brings out tweeners

Both Stan Bunger and Susan Leigh-Taylor were off on Thanksgiving and Black Friday on their KCBS morning drive duties.

Jon Bristow was off his KGO mike. Weatherman Lloyd Lindsay-Young was gonno too. (OMG!) And Pat Thurston was subbing for Ronn Owens, (Owens on his Johnny Carson vacation schedule).

Several of the markets' top anchors on TV were nowhere to be seen. It's that time of the year. Yes, even some of your favorite Bay Area TV and radio people are off. The so-called "B" and "C" teams are out in full force.

Susan Kennedy anchored the morning news on KCBS. Expect to see a lot of Ken Wayne on KTVU, although I like Wayne and consider him an "A-Teamer."

Gobble, gobble.

  1. Christine Craft was in for Gene Burns on Thanksgiving.
In my book, she's A-team all the way.
But then I'm not in charge of KGO programming...

  3. Pretty significant gaffe in MY personal opinion today on KNBR.

Kate Scott follows Gary's Larry at 1030am and some BS caller calls up and calls the 49ers wide receivers all DIVA's and he says "they should all be playing in the CASTRO.”

Kate admittedly caught OFF guard as she says so over the air...by saying "Ah Well your Castro comment caught me off guard BUT I do know some pretty BIG BOYS in the Castro that could STICK IT to those 49er wide receivers.”

People HERE may find it funny but I found it inappropriate.

  4. Ronn Lowenstein the pussy cat of the middle not only takes vacation days on Jewish holidays. The guy appears to be off on all Christian, Muslim, Mormon, Amish and even Satanic holidays. His schedule would make Carson blush indeed. Len Tillem was also out today and yesterday and will be off on Sunday that bum. I enjoyed Craft filling in. She tried to talk to the Lion of the Left from prison but could not establish a connection. I was bummed. Bernie Ward is truly missed on the air waves.

  7. Btw-Even though KOIT got the jump on Christmas music, your readers might appreciate the new oldys channel on FM. KOIT has a rather limited collection and the new oldys FM( I never catch the stations name for some reason) has the Elvis and Temptations to the Ronnetes oldies. Some things I never heard before. And I thought I heard them all.

  9. In case I didn't make it clear-the oldiesFM (103.7 KKSF -Googleized) has a larger collection of CHRISTMAS songs by oldies groups.

  10. It is ridiculous that local anchors of weather or sports are given the time off from their grueling 3 minutes of work...
