Tony Bruno was offered KNBR show; Source: 'But nothing was on paper'; Radnich had 'nothing to do with 86'ed Bruno segment'

Tony Bruno is back home in Philadelphia doing a Noon-2 PM radio show and free of all the back-months drama that saw him leave SF and KNBR, (although he still does the Raiders post-game show on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area).

What most people and many Bruno fans don't know: Bruno was offered a prime-time day show on KNBR.

According to a source close to Bruno, higher-ups at Cumulus, (which owns KNBR) nixed the idea.

"They'd been talking for years even through the Salvadore, (ex-PD Tony Salvadore) years, but nothing was on paper, "said the source. I asked if money was an issue. "Sure, but it was not the 'only issue. You know, it costs a lot of money to live in SF--of course money was huge, but there were other things."

Those "other things" may have included the financial health, (at the time), of Cumulus, but now, ironically, Cumulus just bought out Citadel and all its ABC radio stations and network.

One major thing the source wanted to point out: Gary Radnich had nothing to do with Bruno's ouster from the 9-Noon show. "Tony has nothing but the highest praise for Gary. This decision had nothing to do with Gary--they, (management), were trying out a new show and thought the Bruno segment would interfere with the new format."

And Bruno's now infamous "illegal alien" tweet, (regarding Giants' pitcher, Ramon Ramirez and his shot at Bruce Bochy?) "Tony regretted the whole thing" and said as much.

Bruno left his LA Fox Sports Radio show on Sept. 9th and ultimately decided to head back to Philly, his home town. His contract was up and decided home cookings would be good for now.

Might Bruno had landed in SF had the planets aligned: Said the source: "Tony loves SF and all of Northern California. Who knows what portends for the future."

  2. Bruno's drawback to me is ..he's Mr. Phillie. And you know that would have come out..Bruno telling us how he honestly think the Phillies are superior to the Giants..all summer long. Just a no win situation I see it for Bruno and listeners. NO matter how much talent he has for example-who thinks Vin Scully at KNBR wouldnt be pro Dodger?-like that.
I will tell you,I wouldn't put Bruno in the anti Latino category with a Larry Kreuger.
I just got home..when I left,he said benching Cabrera was the reason for the Giants win streak..I come home, and what do I hear? Kreuger and how the Mets star shortstop - a latino- isnt a good trade because of...Well, it doesn't matter. Krueger in his short time back has refered to the Giants Latino players over and over in a negative way. The man can't help himself fixate on them. Even on Tv,Radnich looks at him like "He cant stop". I mean-have I ever said Radnich does that? Fitzy? ..Krueger's bias is everyday.
AND -with his past he pretty much lost his card to rip the Latin players under ANY pretense. That's what happens when you go racist.

  3. Bruno, Dibbley and Radnich was the best hour on radio. Dibbley would rag Radich and there was chemistry between all 3. No matter how many hours Bruno slept or flew he always brought energy to the show never grumpy or out of it.

  6. Loved the Gary/Bruno segments. Would really love to have Bruno for a full 2-3 hour show here in SF. Too bad he's gone.

  7. 12:06, enough of the pobresito garbage. You're the one posting in the other thread about KTVU not having enough Latinos, too? If there aren't enough Latins in the media around here, you may be more comfortable in another country...

  9. 4:45...when we take over California, YOUR kind are the first we come for and drag you out of your house in the middle of the night. Garbage like you...hee-hee-heee....

  10. If you don't like the radio station programming or (alleged) hiring practices, they have such a thing called a knob...USE IT! I listen to less KNBR because its cheerleader pop culure garbage is what makes me turn the dial.. 95.7 offers decent alternative sports programming and only listen to "The (used to be)Leader" when there live sports or am interview I'm interested in.

  12. Yeah, there's no way that Gary had anything to do with the Bruno segment being removed from his show. They're good friends. I don't think the Bruno segment would've ruined the at the time, Gary, and Damon Bruce show. That would've been a very entertaining half hour with Gary, Bruno, and Damon Bruce. Even now with Larry Krueger, that also could've been entertaining with him, Gary, and Bruno.

In a sense though, KNBR kind of dodged a bullet with having the Bruno segment removed. Imagine if he would've still been on Gary's show and then Bruno would've had to face Gary and Damon and possibly get rediculed by callers that Monday. Gary and Damon talked about what Bruno said for pretty much that whole show. It was kind of too much after a while. LOL.

I do agree that Bruno was Mr. Philly though. He talked about his Philly teams a little too much. It was like Phillies this, Eagles, Sixers, and Flyers that. It's like Tony, we don't care about your Philly teams. LOL. Plus to add insult to injury, sometimes he would wear his Phillies gear during his segment with Gary. You could see it since Gary's show is simulcasted on CSN California.

Despite his comments, I do agree that it would be nice for him to have a show here in the Bay Area. That would be cool if they could give him a weekend show in the Bay Area during the football and basketball seasons. If not him, why not have someone like Larry Krueger do that. But yeah, Tony Bruno does have good sports knowledge and he is entertaining. I also agree that they should put him back on Gary's show. If he ever does come back on Gary's show, hopefully Gary and Larry can steer him to talk more Bay Area sports than Philly sports. LOL

  13. How Radnich has continued to survive at KNBR is one of the world's great conundrums. I have nothing against the man personally, but how many times can one listen to his tiresome, recycled schtick? If I wanted to hear stories about the old Vegas strip and Shecky Green, I'd watch a documentary about it. He offers no insight into sports beyond "how many people will attend the Giants second place parade?" or "wake me when the playoffs start". The contempt he has for his own callers is palpable. Its baffling. He must have compromising photos of KNBR/Cumulus management. That's the only explanation I can think of.

  15. I like my agenda-it's right. Yours is right wing.
One last-I never hear any proof I'm wrong from your types. SO,I go on and on..hee-hee-hee...

  16. What a laugh-AND THIS BLOG IS TOO POWERFUL- Radnich-who reads 415 or has flunkys print out so he can read it..just claimed that Larry has NO AGENDA!..what a lie. I'm honest about mine..Larry like a evil nutcase is slyly putting his in to the Radnich show. Let's see,he was revolted by Sandoval-as Rich also heard - the other day,Now,today, He was gushing over Sandoval.
You want to bet higher up's gave Krueger a phonecall?
The man is so shallow, his flip flop on who he likes can change day to day- if he's told to like somebody-he then does.

  17. 6:04, making threats? That's the way to keep La Raza and it's types from being retaliated against, big time.

You want to try your little "reconquista" bullshit? Bring it on! You wankers will be mowed down faster than your cartels already do to the innocents in the sewer to our south.

You want to be a respected segment of the community? Then let go of your "this was our land" bullshit. It was NOT the land of the Mexicans. The Spanish obliterated most of the natives, all the "indios" left that speak Spanish have a lot of European blood in them too. Get over your little reconquista crap, or you're in for a BIG surprise. (and come-uppance)...

  18. 11:36 and his kind make my point. THEY are parts of the PROBLEM.

  19. Guys...guys!!! Let's hold down the aggressive and angry attitudes here! This is place for posting, not for whining about our differences! Racism and agry posturing about Mexicans has no place here!

As Rodney King once said: "CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG!"
