Rick Quan has new College Football gig on ABC7; Gambling shill on Knibber uses 9/11 to discount service; Friday quickie

**Rick Quan, formerly of KPIX, who has been doing sub for KGO-TV is working the ABC7 college football Saturday postgame show this fall as their field reporter.

Quan is one of the few elite performers who needn't shout nor scream his way to work, just a steady, simple delivery. Wish him well on this new gig.

*Checked in on the Knibber morning show to hear prime football tout shill, the sleazy Adam Meyer, act more sleazy and he delivered. While picking games, Meyer told listeners, in honor of Sept 11, "if you're a military person, (family) I'll give you a 75% discount off my services." Brian Murphy, to his credit, dead silence. It should be noted that Meyer buys time on KNBR, although that little tidbit is never mentioned on the air.

*Good line by my friend, Mike James, from Newsblues, (paywall); while CNN, CBS, ABC, and a slew of other cable networks, will provide overblown tenth-anniversary coverage of 9/11, Fox will stick with NFL football, "as God intended."

  1. KNBR is a PIMP by allowing the gambling WHORES on their airwaves. The worst are the hour long gambling "infomercials" that run weekend mornings during football season. Dirty, dirty money ... for shame!

  2. I could not believe Adam Meyer this morning offering a 75% discount to the military in honor of 9/11...then before signing offer it to everybody. KNBR should resign the account there are plenty of sleazy gambling touts that would buy time...this guy is beyond sleazy and crossed the line.

  3. Can't stand those gambling shill spots. I always change the station when they're on.

  4. Damon Bruce and Ralph also do gambling segments. One thing you have to give Radnich credit for-he refuses. Just when you think he's all capitalism,he goes socialism.
Best of luck to Quan who still faces a wall in sports media even after two decades. 95.7 and KNBR will hire bigots like Krueger or Sacramento hicks like Monty, and repeat mistake before ever going ethnic.
Rod Brooks on KNBR and Eric Davis 95.7. One each and no more of any kind. Sickening.

  5. Leave it to KNBR to stoop to new lows by taking money any way its offered. This gambler Adam Meyer has and always will be a total sleaze, but Cumulus doesn't care. All they care about is keeping their bloodless CEO, Lew 'the Dickhead' Dickey happy with a big fat bottom line so that he gets his bonus from the shareholders. KNBR has been offering this kind of tripe to their listeners for some time and the FCC should have regulations that forbid these kind of sleazeballs from peddling their crap on the air. It also doesn't surprise me that this guy Meyer offers the military a 75% discount in honor of 9/11. This baffoon has no shame.

  7. I would love to hear a current or former KNBR employee's thoughts on the sports betters who have airtime on the station. I can only imaging how many listeners have bought into to what they are selling only to be shown a harsh reality. I would also love to hear from any listener who has called or signed up for any of the packages that these so called "prognosticators" sell to the KNBR listeners.

  8. I remember driving to work the morning after the Giants won the series listening to the KNBR morning show and just the disgust in Murphy's voice as he said 'well I guess we have to do this' and then interrupting the whole morning of Giants love was 12 minutes with Adam Meyer.

I had hoped KNBR had moved passed this probable felon but I guess not.

Google Adam Meyer, he is king of the scumbags.

  9. Rich, if you listened a little longer you would have heard both Murphy and McCaffrey apologize for Meyer's "commercializing" 9/11 and they reminded listeners that Meyer pays for that spot, that they, and KNBR don't have control over the content. It was the first time that I have heard them distance themselves from the paid Meyer piece. I'm thinking this was about 6:45 or so.

  10. Davis and Brooks both suck on the radio. The only reason they are on is because they are black.

  11. Whoever didn't already know the touts like Meyer pay for their time is clueless..

  12. Fitz is the one who really goes out of his way to pimp out Meyer. You can tell Murph & Mac's segment with Adam is very forced, but Fitz makes it seem like they are good buddies. I think that Meyer has been doing the show on Fitz and Brooks for 5-6 years now.

The stuff that they air early Saturday and Sunday mornings is the most disgraceful programming in radio. It's a shame that KNBR takes airs these degenerates who sound like they are doing a show in a janitor's closet just for an extra buck.

  13. Nice time killer looking at Adam Meyer on the internet testimonials. Not one is good. Meyers claims 77% accurate...but says he cant document it "I dont keep records" he claims..tell that to the IRS.
Hilarious how Meyers told a bay area (KNBR) listener he would be 27-4 for the NCAA's..the poor KNBR listener beleived...and Meyers was instead 8-23!
Listening to KNBR and Murph cost him $500. Be proud Murphy..your such a nice guy they say.

  14. Did anybody listen to Meyer's segment today on Fitz and Brooks? Did he promote his 9/11 special again, or did he come to realize that it was bad taste? Maybe I'll check the podcast.

Either way, someone needs to take KNBR to task on this sort of radio. Hard to fault Meyer- he's just trying to run a business, and in order for him to get his name out there he needs to find classless broadcast companies who will pimp out 7 mins to pitch his product. KNBR should be ashamed. I wonder how long it will take for 957 THE GAME to get their own Sports Handicapper...you know they will since they want to be just like KNBR, even though the go overboard pretending they are nothing like them.

  15. Rick Kwon is weak...just like you. No excitement. No personality. Boring.

  16. Hey Judge...Rick Kwon (SIC) is weak? YOU'RE WEAK!
You can't even spell the guy's name correctly YOU MORON!. And speaking of boring...what do you bring to the table, other than your lame opinion that means nothing to anybody! Go back into your little hole and continue listening to dysfunctional idiots like P-Con or Baffoons such as Dibbs!

  17. Any professional sports bettor will tell you to win 58% of NFL wagers aginst the spread for one season would be a fantastic year. Mr Meyer claims a much higher success rate, which leads to the questions I have for all these touts.

If you are so successful in betting, why not simply wager your own money and make a nice living?

Why do you need to purchase air time to sell your "advice" to others?

  18. Uh, 5:54, if you're going to complain about spelling, you should make sure yours is correct. That's "buffoon". ;-)

Be that as it may, judge is a moron.

  19. Do you remember Rick Quan's Schtick when he was at KPIX?

Me neither...because he didn't HAVE a schtick. He just reported on the game...just giving out the facts/hilites. IN other words, he is a true professional.

And that's why I'm glad he's back on the air.

  20. I have to agree with 8:47PM here.

  21. Tolbert the other day was ripping a gambling spot that happened during a break ("If they need your phone number and E-mail address, to talk to them, then they're a rip-off and I don't care if they get mad at me"). Ted Robinson when he fills in always laughs at the Stu Feigner (?) spots. I always enjoyed Greg Roberts "the handicapping master" on Razor and T before he disappeared a few years back. He was some good 'ol southern boy who talked games, told a few jokes and advised if he wasn't hot on a game. Adam Meyer comes off as being unhappy unless he has every dollar in your pocket. Good streak for KNBR lately!

  22. KNBR continues to be the 'money leader' as they'll put anyone or anything on the air if it brings in revenue. The Dickhead boys in Atlanta who run Cumulus love to hear the 'chi-ching' of the cash registers as more money flows into their coffers.
They're probably snickering in joy as they realize their bonuses will also expand. Who cares about bringing quality programming to the bay area sports fans, as long as you're making money, right boys?!
As long ast he checks don't bounce, they're happy. KNBR and the fools who run it are a disgrace to broadcasting!

  23. Guess who had a Wayne Alan Root infomercial Sunday morning- that's right, FM's only sports station! Guess they aren't that different than AM after all...
