The Cumulus Bloodbath at KNBR that's coming; A Preview

Sheriff Bungeroth from Cumulus has been in town several months and intends to make major changes, according to a variety of sources.

BIG-name changes. One or two might shock you. Everything and everyone is on the table.

Check here soon in the coming days.

  1. As a listener, I'd ask that Radnich and Tolbert be kept.

    Fitz HAS to go.

Don't put Damon on from 9-noon, or in drivetime. He's way too much for those timeslots.

  2. Its about time,my two cents keep the morning team, nice guys, although they tend to talk about other things not about sport, and thats when I change the dial. Please clean house on Krueger,Radnich,Fitz, Brooks, Tolbert and Byrnes. KNBR has gone down hill so fast, they were great about 15 year ago.

  3. Cumulus Media out of Atlanta is a bad company that has no interest in quality broadcasting or serving the public as radio stations used to do. Their only interest is making money. If that means cutting talented people out of jobs who have been a part of a local station as well as part of a community for years, it's no big deal to them.

The 'Dickhead Brothers' (that's Cumulus CEO Lou Dickey and his brother for those that don't know) are more interested in profits and making their shareholders happy that putting out a decent product on the radio. During the height of the recession, Lou Dickey proudly boasted about his huge million dollar plus bonus while at the same time, slashing jobs and firing long time employees in a purge that would have made Chairman Mao proud!

Now Cumululus has bought KGO and will do as much as they can to slash and burn that once proud radio station as well, and I'm sure many solid and p;rofessional announcers will be thrown out of work while nit-wits, bimbos and neophytes are hired for pennies in their place. All of this will be done in the name of making a profit and keeping Cumulus's shareholders happy.

The Dickhead brothers don't give a whit about providing public service to the community. If they had tried to pull off this kind of crap 15 years ago before the lamentable Commucations Act was signed into law (which deregulated the media and allowed companies such as Cumulus to buy as many stations at they wished) they would have been run out of the business.

One of the Big reasons why bloviating hate-mongers such as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity hate President Obama so much, is that Obama has made rumblings about overturning the Communications Act which would mean that local stations could then be bought by smaller companies, and we'd go back to having local programming and local announcers, rather than all of these network conservative talk show idiots who make obscene amounts of money (Limbaugh pulls in about 45 mil a year! RIDICULOUS!) Limbaugh and Hannity wouldn't be on as many stations then, and subsequently wouldn't be heard in just about every corner of the country. But unfortunately big business is able to run the table and play by its own rules now that the US government is essentially in its pocket. No wonder this country has gone in the crapper!

    I call the phenomenon 'CUMULITIS!'

  4. Those pompous clowns (e.g. Tom Tolbert, Ralph Barbieri, Bob "I graduated from Notre Dame and you didn't" Fitzgerald, et. al.) with their 6-figure salaries, opining about everything BUT sports and bragging about what they did on their vacations has worn extremely thin with me. The one ones they should keep are Rod Brooks and Damon Bruce. Personally, KNBR hasn't been the same since they fired Dave Newhouse and replaced him with that verbose idiot Barbieri in the first place. But that is neither here or nor there. I hope management makes these arrogant jerk-offs sweat about their livelihoods for awhile (like virtually everyone else is in this country).

  5. Lou Dickey=Mao.

    Excellent comparison!

  6. As a "Right Wing Zealot", I completely agree that we need the "Communications Act" overturned, so that the stations aren't owned by some conglomorate in a far away place, but by more local operators.

    Dicky=Mao
    Cumulus Radio=Oligarchs

  8. Cosidering the genius chimps at KNBR who gave the morning show boys a six year deal, and hired Larry Krueger a natural born loser,I see the Hammer getting hammered or the Bungerhole tossed in a hole.
KNBR has more "lifers" who haven't made a dent in the bay area then any local media has ever had. Unlike the Chron,or Trib or some TV stations best years...20 years from( 5?,2?, next?) now,KNBR's last 10 -15 years or so will be seen as the dark ages where talentless hacks were paid millions...and nobody ever knew why.

  9. First order of business, get rid of KNBR's morning show.
Those two guys don't even speak english much less understand sports.
    Hey dude . . . anyone?

  10. Little did KNBR know when they laughed at Dan Dibley because he asked for a $2.00 per hour raise and his own parking space, that when he walked-turned down- that the station would crumble...
Hail Dibbs!..he's laughing much louder at 95.7 in the morning these days...

  11. So,does a Bunger trump a Dickey? I might be confused at who's over who here.
Any photos you could post of these players Rich?

  12. Everybody rags all the personalities on KNBR but still listen. Why? Turn the dial lemmings

  13. Bring back Frank Dill.

  14. So let me get this straight, everybody hates everything. Perfect, you all cancel each other out.

  15. KNBR is a joke! The new FM station doesn't offer much either as the only locals they've hired are loudmouth know-it-alls like Urban and Roxy Bernstein, and they spend way too much time talking about texting and tweeting, but at least they're hustling and trying to do something different.

When they fired Bob Agnew and put that idiot Lee Hammer in charge, KNBR really started to go in the tank. It was kind of like what happened to our country when Bush was elected...we went downhill that much faster!

Until KNBR hires some proven proven pros who are credible and sound like broadcasters, instead of bimbos like Kate Scott (who is probably making 10 bucks and hour) or fools like 'P-Con' who sounds like he missed his therapy session...and until they get rid of tired acts like Gary and Ralph, brown-nosing weasels such as Fitz, and dysfunctional twits like Brynes, they're going to continue to smell like horse-dung!
They're lucky to have the Giants and 49ers, otherwise there would be no reason to listen yp anything on KNBR.

KNBR stands for "killing, not building Radio!"

  16. No, KNBR was great 25 years ago, when the laid-back Dave Newhouse did the post game talk show and and firmly solid muzzle was kept over the mouth of The Razor- He was only allowed to fill in on occasion and do his 2 minute sports bits in the afternoon. They didn't talk sports by beating everything into the ground 24/7. Sports was only talked about at night. The remainder of the day they ran with general news, general talk and music. Then in 1989, the Susquehanna "suits" took over and everything at KNBR, in my opinion, went down the toilet.

  17. Fitz and Brooks are weak. Tolbert is strong. I am getting worn out with Razor constantly talking over his guests - if you don't want to listen to them don't friggin invite them on your show.

  18. what a bunch of malcontents...this post at 4:45 is a great example. You bitch about the FM not hiring enough locals and then proceed to diss the newer talent that is coming up as well as anyone with any history in the market. I guess you all just hate everyone. What exactly, or who exactly, is it that would please you? Doesn't seem like there's anyone left.

  19. Dill wouldn't touch today's KNBR with a ten-foot pole. At his advanced age, his occasional golf segments are more than enough air time. Any more would drive him crazy.

Let's hope and pray that the Mao-like Brothers have a deep disdain for Fitz Fritz. As well as remove the Communications Act or replace with something that accommodates middle-class broadcasters who do care about both the economy and their local communities.

  20. KNBR in its heyday was great. Dill and Cleary, Ron Lyons, Carter B., even CJ Bronson. You looked forward to Dill and Cleary interviewing Nellie and doing their schtick. Now? Radnich is on his last legs, the only guy worth listening to that doesn't insult you or kill brain cells is Ray Woodson and maybe Tolbert for a laugh. Byrnes is just frat boy gawd awful. 95.7 is trying, I listen now to it a bit now and then, at least it's new voices and some new viewpoints. I hate the centralization of radio ownership in this country, it is totally unhealthy for the national political well being, as well as just bad for music and features and talk variety.

  21. My guess is that the post at 7:02 doesn't understand why all of us are bitching about KNBR or 'the Game' because he (or she) hasn't listened to radio that closely over the years. If 7:02 had paid some attention to the degeneration in quality of radio in the last decade, perhaps he (she) would understand why everyone is so upset! When you replace solid broadcasters with braying juvenile idiots, when you pander to the low-brow mentality, then many of us who are used to a higher qualitythrow our hands into the air and vent! Unfortunately, I don't see the trend in bad radio changing anytime soon, particularly if cheap, unimaginative companies such as Cumulus (KNBR) and Entercom (they own 'the game') stay in business. It's a shame because it dumbs everything down, and bay area sports fans are less informed, and have to rely on other forms of mass media to get an accurate fix on what's going on locally.

  22. Why would new KNBR ownership ditch Fitz. He is a condescending twerp on the radio, and a gawd awful Warriors homer, but it's been widely reported that the Warriors pay his KNBR salary, so for these new bottom line owners, if that is even partially true, why ax a guy you don't even have to pay?...

  23. Morning guys and Brynes got to go...Razor and Radnich soon retire. Fitz probably should go. It will be different definitely.. the Lee Hammer White House photo-op might be his "Mission Accomplished" obituary...man thought he was bigger than his business.

  24. sounds like a bunch of "back in my day.." whining...anyone need a centrum silver?

  25. Fitz, The Razor and the bloated Radnich need to go. They change more channels than a tweaker on meth. I like Tolbert. Great insight and generally respectful.

    ReplyDelete
  26. They need to totally clean house, starting with the two morning idiots and radnich. All three of them talk about stupid inane things, mostly their wives and kids, anything but sports.

  27. let ralph go. his ego destroys the show. tolbert is quirky and intersting. ralph is lazy as is raddich
