Gorgeous and talented reporter, Cecilia Vega approached KTVU about the prospect of joining its newsroom only to be pushed aside by ND, Ed Chapuis, ("Special Ed"), according to one of my insiders.
As it turned out, Vega, who is about to begin a gig at ABC News, landed at KGO-TV and has drawn praise for her tenacious journalist skills, which included a stint as City Hall reporter for the SF Chronicle.
That, apparently, wasn't good enough for Special Ed.
Said the insider:
A few years ago, she became a regular, unpaid commentator on KTVU in the morning, because she had such great insights into SF City Hall. It was good promo for the Chronicle too. The fact that she was striking on camera was a big plus. So some middle management types suggested to the News Director and General Manager, that they try to hire her full-time. The bonehead News Director blew the whole thing.
You just can't negotiate with a "know-it-all" who actually knows ZERO. In frustration Vega approached KGO-TV News Director Kevin Keeshan. The rest is now ABC history. She deserves this. She's a star!

Special Ed must be the doofus that hired "Drama Queen" Dave Clark. If it wasn't for Tori Campbell and Pam Cook, I'd change the channel and never look back.

The biggest irony? That beautiful blond and blue eyed Latino woman-who's siblings and parents are brown skinned as can be..THEY are NEVER hired for TV news. The stereotype is SO strong,that they will be turned down. TV figures only Susan Smith the blond should look like that,NOT Susan Sanchez.

If this albatross isn't removed any time soon, what Somerville told you months ago will go by the waist side and a great station will turn into a place of misery. What happened to the smarts that KTVU used to have? FOX 2 is lucky that still have mostly strong on air staff, outside of a couple of voices. No doubt that Channel 2 hasn't been the same the last 3 years.

Between Kreuger and Fitz and Brooks,Bungerhole has hired three sports hosts with the least amount of respect for among their own colleagues.
But Bungerhole did ban Matt Maiocco from KNBR. Matt who carries greatest respect from the bay area media.
KNBR just getting more and more slimy by the day.

ReplyDeleteMorale at KTVU is very low. Special Ed mostly hides in his office and comes out to make a mess of the morning and afternoon meeting then comes running in when a breaker happens and nearly crashes the entire thing.
ReplyDeleteHe never promotes from with-in and always hires very young out of town talent both on and off air who are beholden to him. Of course about three months in they all start complaining about what an idiot he is. Truly tragic, when the EP's under him are all incredibly sharp folks, any of who would be excellent news directors.
We do have hope however. The new G.M. seems to be asking why are numbers are slipping and asks questions "special Ed" can't answer since he's not actually you know running the newsroom.
Maybe we'll get lucky and Cox will boot him upstairs or he'll be handed a pink slip. Can't wait for that after hours party!
