Where are all the decent SF Media Saloons?

Endangered species: SF saloons where media tycoons like me love to hang out and shoot the shit.

They have gone the way of the old-school, 1980 Texas Instruments calculator. Gonno.

I know about the old M and M bar on Fifth near the Chronicle building.

Tadich is a fine restaurant, but there's no stand-alone bar.

The Royal Exchange has it down with great drinks and a saloon-like ambiance, but the noise sounds like a pit stop at SFO.

Grumpy's? Are you kidding me? (Although the tuna melt is a steal at $5.95) Nearby, the Old Ship on the corner of Battery and Jackson has a lot of POtential, but closes way too early, a common SF trademark.

Perry's on the Embarcadero has all the looks of PJ Clarke's in Midtown Manhattan, but concentrates too much on the food and not the libations. Maybe they should take notes.

I like the Balboa a lot, but whenever I go in, the 30-something chicks surround me like a cheap piece of meat. If all I was looking for was a quick trip to the sack, I'd force myself over to the lobby bar at the W.

And Tommy's Joynt is too dark and grungy to be a saloon. Just order your fine turkey sandwich and drink a few beers, pronto.

  1. Tommy's is where all the action happens because it is next to KRON. I am going to pull a trick out of 'Mr. Media's' bag of (weak) tricks and say this (without naming names). I have seen a once popular KRON anchor...who was also part of a South Bay peacock tribe lay down a few bucks and take down a few shots while his hand was firmly placed a nice young co-ed's leg. Not to mention the reporter who let some chuncks fly just outside the door. The same reporter likes the Cuevo about as much as I love the cuatro!

  2. The reason you're surrounded every time you enter Balboa is because of your cologne, Rich. Sex Panther, illegal in 9 countries, made with bits of real panther so you know it's good. It stings the nostrils, in a good way. They've done studies you know....60% of the time...it works every time.

  5. Uhh Rich... Psst... TI-83 and TI-84 Texas Instrument calculators are still $80-$100 calculators that are mainstays in any high school junior/senior and college math classes. I still have my good old TI-81 from the early 90's.

  6. the news people of this generation are overworked shooting, editing, writing and producing their pieces to have a spare 5 min to go do shooters between shows like the news people of yesteryear.

  7. Media Worker #1-"Crap, here comes Rich again!"
Rich-"Hey guys! Where's everyone hanging out these days?"
Media Worker #2-"Um, no where in particular."
Rich-"Ah well, See ya at Tommy's Joint, maybe? Bye!"
Media Worker #1-"Whew! That was a close one!"

  12. 2:10 true, news anchors are not what they used to be either. It's a fucking utility, the scribe here thinks that it's still an important business like it was from the 50's through the 90's. Most news shows are like a bad parody, it's just a commodity nothing special. Today, so many of the reporters are either just hot girls without a brain or some kind of minority, or perhaps a lispng queer. The days of the big ballsy anchors and high jinx are gone. Now it's a land of pretenders. All playing like real news people. No presence, no knowledge, or proper tone, they aren't real news people...they just play them. Not true for some of the aging pros, but it will never go back.

  15. 10:01 am right back at you a hole. A raging bigot, how's that? . I have no problem with gays on tv, just not interested in seeing or listening to some prancing, lisping, fairy delivering the fucking news. I don't care about the race, creed or color
of the reader/reporter as long as they are a pro, now go wack off your boy friend A hole.
