Let's get away from whether or not you found Fosse/Kuiper's giggling act in Texas offensive and insensitive, given what we all saw on TV. I have watched the video numerous times and thought they went way over the line. If you didn't, fine, it's your opinion.
Apparently, Comcast people back in the corporate offices in Philly felt like I did because they, and some of their people locally put the word out directly to Fosse/Kuiper not to talk to any reporters. If, as some of you and others suggest, they were in the clear, then why were Comcast execs so quick to muzzle them? It's a simple question.
The fact is Comcast brass were none too happy with Fosse and Kuiper. They also were less than pleased that the now infamous video was shown on the telecast, twice, with Fosse giggling even AFTER the visual of Mr. Stone was seen diving head-first into the pavement, but again, that's not the issue here.
The issue is Comcast muting out the A's announcers and the local media turning a blind eye to a major cable company.
Susan Slusser of the Chron and SFGate did make an earnest attempt at getting an explanation from CC and both Fosse and Kuiper. And the BANG A's beat guy, Joe Stiglich, also mentioned the story, but that was it.
The local opinion heads said nothing...NADA.
My guess is that Comcast is and was concerned about the fallout from both Fosse and Kuiper's dim-bulb act and decided to button them up. They're actions speak for themselves. I'm not surprised, frankly; its what we've come to expect.
The All-Star break could not have come at a better time for the local CSNBA. Wonder if they'll talk about it on "Chronicle Live?"

I don't understand why people are excusing the giggling cause "fosse did not know the guy was severly injured". Fosse comes off like a giggling school girl, it was obvious when the victim fell head first that he could be gravely injured. Lame.
ReplyDeleteAnother manufactured controversy. Yawn.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Susan need permission? or any writer? Why not simply walk up to them in the lobby, elevator,at the mall, etc, and do what reporters do-ask the tough questions?
ReplyDeleteDid Woodward and Bernstein ask Nixon for "permission" ?
Rich, what did Lowell Cohn, Scott Ostler and Bruce Jenkins say when you asked them about it?
