Madden on KCBS rips Giants' Wilson at the ESPY's; Thursday Pulse

John Madden wanted to dig deeper, really he did, and I wish he did, but the end result was the same: the ex-coach, broadcaster and KCBS commentator called out SF Giants space cadet, Brian Wilson, for his wardrobe antics at ESPN's woeful excuse for an awards show, the ESPY's.

"He's trying too hard, " said Madden. "It's a severe case of 'look at me," he chortled on his daily Madden show Thursday morning.

Madden isn't a big fan of sports stars trying their best to resemble a visual Rubik's cube. You could say its a case of an old fart not in times with Generation Y, but Madden wouldn't go there.

He also had choice feelings about Pittsburgh Steelers lineman, James Harrison, who called NFL commish, Roger Goodell, a "devil" and a "crook", among other crazy things. (Did Harrison take some LSD?)

Madden did admit he was watching the ESPY's, which might be a story in and of itself.

Fear the coach.

  1. Wilson must have a huge case of insecurity. His act really isn't funny, heck, he's not even the best closer in the bay area. He's pretty pathetic.

  4. The man who coached John Matuzak and Big Ben and the Snake says Wilson is trying too hard? No wonder Madden loves to sit with the Bush family. Old conservatives sit together. Everything out of his mouth nowadays is pro status quo. When it made his career to take in oddball players Madden had no gripes back then did he?
Old conservatives who talk sports on KNBR= "Only because he's winning can he( Wilson) get away with it". If Wilson wasnt winning Mr.Obvious,he wouldn't be in the Majors period. It's like Mr.Obvious other brilliant take " If the Giants don't win nobody shows up for a second place parade" Oh,soo deep. People like winners, don't care for losers?. Oh,so cynical KNBR man!

  9. not sure how to say this but, does Brian Wilson have a girlfriend? go back and look at the interview of him just after they won the World Series, was it Ken Rosenthal that did the interview?

  10. Madden has nothing to prove. The difference between the old Raiders and Wilson, is that the Raiders REALLY WERE BAD ASSES and full of personalities, not an insecure chump.

  12. John Madden calling out Wilson as a look at me kind of guy? Madden who was BOOMing! and telestrating his catchprases for years until he became as wealthy as the lord and then settled down?
Wilson's on top of the world and enjoying it. NO doubt when his skills diminish,so will his act tone down. He like to clown around but he's no idiot.

  13. "KNBR makes everybody vanilla..even Rod Brooks isnt black anymore."

Yeah, remember a few years back when several of the KNBR people talked to Willie Mays and Mays could not believe that Brooks was black?? Too funny! Brooks got a hole punched in his Brutha Card that day!

The Bay Area loves its odd balls but too much exposure and, yes, Wilson will seem like a tired act.

Yes, the Giants and Wilson need to get over themselves (rolls eyes!). It isn't like they're making a movie based on them starring Brad Pitt about a GM who's never won a championship! *Cough! Money *cough!* Ball!!
