KGO's Burns ill before work; SFFD paramedics respond to 900 Front studios; Talk host OK

SFFD Firefighters and Paramedics responded to the KGO Radio studios at 900 Front Street at approximately 6:00pm Wednesday... According to a building services worker, they came for radio talk-host, Gene Burns.

Apparently he fell ill while prepping for his show Wednesday evening. Burns condition was not serious enough for him to miss his program.

Burns worked his KGO show as scheduled. At post time, there was no word as to whether Burns mentioned the incident on his radio show.

He has been beset by a series of illnesses which caused him to miss over two months time last December.

Burns has been at KGO since 1995.

  1. Gene stated that he dropped his keys on the floor and that he fell trying to retrieve the keys..He said he was fine..

  2. I caught a piece of it and he mentioned something that caused more of his loss of dignity. Which is pretty much gone now for him.

I don't really know what his health issues are, love to hear an explanation.

  3. Hope they didn't dispatch some swimmers to stand around and watch him flail about on the floor!

Gene maybe be physically frail but he's still an intellectual giant.

  4. I will miss Gene when he is no longer able to conduct his show. He is perhaps the only host remaining at KGO of any stature.

When Pat Thurston eventually inherits the role there will be no reason to leave KGO as a preset.

Whenever Gene Burns leaves KGO, his shoes are very very very big to fill. Pat Thurston's 3 to 4 months of filling in for Gene during his recent recovery was okay and nothing great or outstanding. Yes Pat appears to be a decent, nice and respectable person. Beyond that as a talk show host, she allows her callers (mostly who oppose her point of view) filibuster. Second her analysis of the topics she presents is inadequate and her facts are incomplete and sometimes are wrong. On the other hand, I like Christine Craft. She is smart, has full command of the facts, able to reason and agree/disagree with callers in a way Gene Burns does and does not allow filibustering. Also Christine is an experienced media hand. I prefer that KGO bring in Christine whenever Gene quits KGO and just like Dr. Bill Wattenberg, Christine can do her show from her home studio. This way the KGO audience can have continuity with Gene's departure. When Gene was recuperating, I WAS NOT A FREQUENT LISTENER OF PAT THURSTON! The other talk show that should be replaced is Brian Copeland. Brian is awful.
