While Japan's Nuclear facility situation worsens, Wattenburg spiels on KGO's Owens show

While the guy on KGO Radio who refers to detractors as "eco-frauds" and "nincompoops" was again busy drinking the nuclear-power is nirvana on Ronn Owens show Monday, Japan was experiencing more ominous news.

Maybe the genius needs a bit of self-imposed cranial cleansing.'Meltdown': The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant moments after it was rocked by a second explosion today. Officials later admitted that fuel rods are 'highly likely' to be melting in three damaged reactors

  1. Rich,

Your a bit off here, I would guess Dr Wattenburg knows a lot more about all this than you could ever dream of. While you may not like his political views the man is well versed in energy and nuclear energy. You can choose to listen to those spouting what they think may happen based on their 3rd grade education or listen to those that are trained in nuclear energy. Yes this is a horrible event, but are you telling me plants buring coal are great? FOX, MSNBC, CNN all have so called experts on talking about what they think will happen. I'd much rather listen to those within the NRC or Dept of Energy who undestand everything and tell me what they think will happen.

What was Dr. Bill's beef? If it was up to the enviro-Nazis and bureaucratic bungholes (as he calls them), there wouldn't be ANY nuclear power plants there.

I'm all for re-exploring nuclear power in the USA but we'd have to think how would we avert the same crisis that Japan has before we start dropping plants back into earthquake country here. I hope he discussed what we could do to avoid such things."

No suggestions except to blame the disaster on "40 years of enviro-nazis opposing nuclear research, research that would have created safer nuclear power plants" As if the US is the only place with nuclear engineers.
Then he went on to blame the Obama administration for not dropping water bottles into Japanese ponds and lakes for the earthquake survivors.
It made for some (sadly) entertaining radio. Hopefully it is up on the KGO website by now.

  4. If "Doctor" Wattenburg is so smart, why isn't he on site in Japan helping?

  5. How many people have been killed by nuclear power in the US Rich? How many in France and the UK? How many in Japan so far? Why don't you do a quick wikipedia read on the viability of nuclear energy instead of giving us the quick wackjob angle.

  6. Wattenburg isn't there because he's old as the hills and probably can't be too far from his doctors. That would be my guess.

  7. Is Dr. Bill eating a little humble pie? Sure. But is it his fault, or Japans, for having their back-up energy sources at GROUND LEVEL? And will this event bury Japan? or will 20 years of massive debt spending cripple their economy and nation?

Anonymous 5:13 PM, good question. Up until this year, my estimate is ... 0 killed per year by nuclear power, since Chernoybl.

Coal kills how many people a year? 50,000? So 50,000 x 30 = 1.5 Million killed by Coal? Damn!

A bus killed 14 people in L.A. this weekend. Will we ban buses?

I do agree that we should review our nuclear sites and procedures, but to compare the US to an island nation, with huge earthqaukes, a 300-year earthquake, to be specific, AND a tsunami, is tough to do.

  8. P.S. Kev(in) the Racer (?) - Dr. Bill has obligations shere, right? Including a young family, and jis one-off research contributions.

But he has contributed solutions and / or input to many natural disasters; human tragedies; as well as country-level military issues.

Right? Or are you ignorant of Dr. Bill's contributions whicj have saved lives, arms, and families across multiple countries?

  9. Rich,
Funniest thing you've written in a while; I had a good laugh. Wattenberg is an arrogant miscreant getting his comeuppance.

  10. America is tired of the lily livered candy ass telegraph avenue types that are doing everything they can to take us back to the stone age. We can't all live off the government tit, smoke pot, ride bicycles to work, spread deadly venereal diseases while depending on cheap foreign and illegal labor to pamper our lazy asses. These old hippies don't want us to do anything. We can't drill, we can't log, we can't mine or anything else. Wattenburg can take care of himself, what are your going to do when the Nanny state can't support you anymore? Sure, shut the nukes down and see how far your Prius gets on a couple solar panels.

  11. Let's add up the body count from this unfortuante radioactive disaster once it's all over. And then compare it to the 1000s lost in coal mines over the years. Has to be at least a 10:1 ratio. Nuff said.

  12. If I hear the inflated Bill's voice on KGO these days, I just turn the dial. His ego is too big for the radio and certainly not first thing in the morning.

  13. Dr Bill is educated. And he is a douche.
It's very possible to be educated and completely wrong. Bill is a smart dumbass.

  14. I heard Dr Bill say that you could grind up all six fukushima reactors and drop them into the sea and it wouldn't even be measurable.
Next he'll be on you tube demonstrating the safety of nuclear energy by drinking some of the radioactive run off from the leaking reactors.

  15. Dr. Bill and all of the right-wing, pro-nuclear nuts ought to be required to live next to the Japanese nuclear power plant.
