Peter B. Collins on KGO Radio

I'm going to say this again: I make it a point to listen to Peter B. Collins on KGO Radio, (substituting weekends, 1-5 AM)

Collins is lucid, well-spoken, articulate, possesses a lengthy resume and treats both his guests and callers with a mature, reasonable method and manner devoid of any shtick, dumb-down, put-down and insults.

He is also well-rounded and you can tell, well-prepped and prepared. You have to admire a guy that sounds real cogent and informed on almost all the issues of the day.

Collins politics are decidedly left of center, but if you happen to disagree, he'll let you talk and take part in civil discourse. Imagine that.

Here's hoping we get a lot more of Peter B. Collins on KGO.

  1. I agree with your assessment of Mr. Collins. However, he's human and doesn't ALWAYS get his facts straight. Friday night, he discussed the situation in Wisconsin and repeated the argument that the GOP there had purposely used business tax breaks to turn a surplus into a deficit in order to strengthen the case for undoing collective bargaining. It's not true, as determined by Politifact from the state's independent legislative analyst. I'm not in sympathy with Walker and the Republicans in Wisconsin, but I am a stickler for facts, regardless of which side of an issue I'm on. JW

  2. Wow, for once I completely concur! He runs circles around all the other fill in talent and many of the permanent hosts as well. If the unthinkable happens, and Gene should not return, he's easily the best choice to step in. A lot of people think a woman should have a show but no one they have on the roster currently is that strong. I wish this were not the case but KGO can't afford to make another mistake in the talent dept. While I think Gil Gross is a fine newsman, his talk show falls flat. I wish they'd wise up and slide him into one of the anchor roles. He would be so much better in that role and play to his strength. Either drive time would benefit greatly.

  3. Agree with you on this, not aligned with him politically but he is intelligent, articulate and a breath of fresh air.

  4. Although I would hate to see Gene Burns replaced; if he is, I hope it's Peter B. instead of the lightweight who has been sitting in for him the past month. Peter B. is a smart guy, and quick study with regards to the Bay Area. I really like him. Given that I currently HATE KGO Radio, that's actually a stellar endorsement of a management decision by apparent morons.

  5. Peter B Collins did a stellar job today filling in for the "comedian" Brian Copeland. What a breath of fresh air waking up on a Sunday morning to listen to God Talk and Peter B. back to back. Great 6 hours of intelligent talk. I notice a couple of Pat Thurston haters on here. Please tell me if you disagree: If Peter B. should replace anyone would you choose that the one to be replaced be Ms. Thurston or Copeland? Throw the comedian out and keep Thurston in, I think she is wonderful.

  6. Peter B should replace Wattenburg.
I'm not a big fan of Thurston, but if she is replaced then there will be no women in the weekday line-up. KGO already suffers from a fossilized male syndrome so I don't think getting rid of Pat helps very much. Personally, I would rather listen to Christine Craft over any of the above.
