Monday Minutiae; Tolbert on KNBR AM Show; Interesting KGO Promo

**Tom Tolbert is not a morning guy, by his own admissions, (loves constant hibernation,) so it was somewhat startling to hear him Monday AM on KNBR. I'll assume he was subbing for the frat boys and this was merely temporary, Dude!

In any event, Tolbert, who is occasionally funny and can be creative, scored a few laughs that didn't need any sound drops. What a concept, knibber.

**8: 14 AM Monday on KGO--promo: "who wants to hear a bunch of angry 'white guys?--smart is cool..." Really? All of KGO's prime time hosts are ALL white guys.

**"Chronicle Live"on Comcast Sportsnet note: It's a good show, but it can be better. I'd like to watch and hear some more hard-biting issues and substance than mere innocuous banter on, say, whether or not Pablo Sandoval is getting rid of his fat and the Giants' chances.

Sure, stick with the routine material, but every now and then try to go deep down the line, you hearing me?

  1. Yeah, KGO is mainly "white guys" but not "angry white guys",(except maybe Wattenburg). Those can be found on other stations.

Heard about 30 mins of Tolbert this morning, enjoyed it.
Note to KNBR re Ray Woodson: less is more. Nice guy but not very humorous, no edge, hardly insightful.

  2. First,I caught Tolbert too and his "I wouldnt get up this early everyday for a talk show"-not an exact quote, but funny since he admits you need a job worse than he does to do that,I guess is what he meant.
Then-Radnich brought up Carter B. Smith. Now,I have written how Radnich can say things on air he knows arent true without as much as even the smallest trace of b.s.,even as he knows he's b.s.ing. Well, that mention of Smith was like he heard it yesterday,no mention at all he was taken to task by 415media days ago.He did mention something about meeting Frank Dill. Maybe the guilt got to him.
He's smooth..when he see's he's pushed it too far he creates his own reality to fit his image. Hence, the belated Smith mention.
And last: Will whoever runs KNBRS website do something about Ray Woodesen's photo? Look at it and tell me you dont see the Eveel genius villian look?..or, it looks like a guy really forcing a smile. Not exactly natural.

  3. I caught Tolbert. Woodson is a nice guy as Tolbert talked a lot and a lot differently than he does when he is on with Ralph. We now KNOW Hammer wont give Woodson the gig at night due to Woodson being who he is: Too bland.
I saw the photo you mention....

Bad that Radnich had to bring up the Tracy Morgan comment about Sarah Palin.

Does NOT belong on a.m radio!

  4. Woodson looks maniacal..
Comcast sports show has changed much since its inception-back then reporters would actually disagree. Ratto and Del Grande were at each others throats with insults. Now? its Greg Papa squirming if there is even the slightest tension-and topics are dropped if too warm-hot? never anymore.
Its everything the year one Comcast show wasn't. As we all know, Tim Kawakami has said, producers have told him not to criticize Warrior management and so he's boycotted the show since.
More often than not, it's a big group hugfest now.

  5. You couldnt have picked a better time to mention Comcast at 5. I nominate today,Feb 1st show as most vanilla, bland boring show they have ever had. It was as WASPY and elitist as any sports show could get in form(even if it wasnt all Protestants) as it was milky Barry Tompkins speaking to white paint Scot Ostler with Ann Killion and Joan Ryan tossed in as "color"-lol.
Add,Hockey pushed on innocent viewers ...and it was all giggles, country club chit chat washed down with a dash of Mykel Urban.
Ted Griggs or the media alliance of Comcast/Giants/NBC is giving us a view of future sportscasting. It's the 1950's all over.

  6. Heard Ratto teaming with Barbieri recently. Ralph was truthfully HURT when Ratto said that the HOF needs to let in the steroid group. Former Commission Landis apparently was a terrible person who held fast to the color line and Ty Cobb was a wife beater/racist and Klansman. Barbieri when teamed with someone with astuted knowledge like Ratto CANNOT hold his own. Why does KNBR let Ralph yell at engineer Brian when Brian makes fun of Ralphs half hour questions....(Heres a suggestion when you call up...have a point = sound byte)

Someone please ask Ralph who he is dating besides a test tube women. His off the cuff Amici commercials are HORRIBLE...they just let him talk off the top of his head. Poor Tate.
