49ers/York get Bay Area media softies

One of the reasons why I like Lowell Cohn of the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat is his blog entries on the 49ers.

Cohn, and to some extent, Tim Kawakami of the SJ Merc, are the ONLY hard-nosed reporters/bloggers critical of the team's ownership, led by Jed York.

As pointed out by Cohn, if this were NY or Philly, the Yorks would have been dismissed and laughed out of town considering their inept guidance of the Bay Area's signature NFL team.

At Jed York's press conference announcing the firing of Mike Singletary, I was amazed at the lack of any real concrete, specific, tough questioning by the assembled Niners' press corps; only Cohn dared to inquire to York directly if he himself was accountable to the current mush on and off the field.

When Cohn tried to follow up, he received some e-mails saying he was being "rude" and trying to make himself the story. Bull.

Cohn is aggressive and yes, at times, abrasive, but he's fair and simply doing his job. And by and large his readers, (and I'm one of them) appreciate his style. Too bad the rest of his colleagues act like sheep.

  1. Lowell in some ways reminds me of myself. Ask the question that is on everybodys mind. Those people are rich, famous and they should know it comes with the territory. Second of all,he doesnt also look the other way when the B.S. is official and stamped..he,again,questions.
Tim Kawakami-you just know he's going to bash the Raiders and sing the praises of Billy Beane, his weakness.
And best of all about Lowell? no hockey talk..ahh,I kid. Sorta.

  2. Most of the news media are scared of the rich people. ... They are a bunch of paper wolves. They only attack small time targets who cannot fight back. ...

  3. AMEN, Rich...If this was the East Coast of America the York/49ers Ownership would have been ran out of town 3 Years Ago!!!

The Yorks are Rich, Inept, Arrogant, and Deaf as to what their fans really want. The Fans want the 49ers to go back tgo being the 49ers of old, we had a Legacy then. Now we have no identity at all, due to the 49er Ownership of the Yorks.

  4. BTW Rich, did you catch the impassioned interview with former San Francisco 49er QB Steve Young last week? The interview was on KNBR.

Steve Young basically said that the 49ers need an Identity, which has all but been abandoned by the York Family. The Yorks have not embraced the Legacy, History, or the Tradition of the Storied NFL Franchise. And Proof of that is the Yorks wanting to move the 49ers out of SF, and into the suburbs...

One thing I give the SF Giants, they know what their Legacy, and History is, and they unlike the 49ers Embrace the City of SF.
