NBC Bay Area's Sinkovitz: Best Anchor in the Market

There's several very good anchors in the market; Frank Somerville, Dan Ashley, Carolyn Johnson, Dana King are all first rate, but NBC Bay Area's Tom Sinkovitz is my favorite. In fact, I say he's the best.

Sinkovitz, who pairs with the equally- talented Jessica Aguirre, delivers the news with a straight-forward, no-nonsense, here-it-is and 'this is the story style. He's not smarmy, doesn't come off as a prima dona, and possesses just the right amount of humor and vanity. Doesn't hurt too, that Sinkovitz, looks like an anchor.

That's not a back-handed shot, if anything, Sinkovitz has more command and style than many of his peers. I'm delighted he managed to leave KRON mostly dignified and has settled in nicely down in San Jose.

One of his signature moments: the night he and co-hostess, Aguirre conducted the post-gubernatorial debate between Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman. Sinkovitz showed off his savvy political analysis and did so without breaking a sweat. The entire program was beyond network quality.

Here's hoping we see a lot more of Sinkovitz on NBC Bay Area as they try to gain traction in the Bay Area news ratings.

  1. I'll give you Dan Ashley and Carolyn Johnson. But Frank Somerville and Dana King? Are you kidding?

  2. I'm a big Sinkovitz fan, but I've never been impressed with Aguirre.

Anyone know what's going on with Lisa Kim? Is KNTV bringing Terilyn Joe back?

  3. Tom? nah. Competent, unpretentious to the extreme and under the radar-yes. Ken Bastita right now is the alpha dog of bay area newsreaders,Anchorman if you like.

  6. Sinkovitz? Na. No matter what he or the other ex-kron hires do they can't wash off that cheap KRON odor. Seeing these KRON anchors on these other channels only degrades the image of the station. Stay away from kron

  7. Tom is a class act all the way. Sharp, genuine, kind, wicked sense of humor. Glad you noticed what a gem he is. Jessica too. She can ad lib like no one's business and her writing shows she has true news chops.

  8. Tom was my anchor when I produced weekends at KRON in the late 90's. Great anchor and yes, great guy too. Glad to hear he's doing well at KNTV. I absolutely loved working with Tom. Catherine Heenan as well - They were both great to work with.

  9. Tom Sinkovitz is Great! I miss seeing him on the Local San Francisco News Outlets...Since I NEVER watch the San Jose NBC news outlet.

  10. Tom's great. The idea that there is any KRON stink on him is ridiculous. He and Jessica give some "Umph!" and weight to KNTV.

Yes, I agree. Ken Bastita is one of the alpha dogs. It doesn't hurt to be on CBS, a #1 network, but he and Dana king (with the muy caliente Roberta Gonzales) make for a powerful team as well.

  11. Excuse me... Sinkovitz "looks" like an anchor? Since when is it acceptable for anchors to look like George Rask, Jr? Lose some weight, get the mop cut and stop smoking 32 packs a day. Then maybe he'll "look" like a polished anchor should.

  12. Lieberman- I disagree with much of what you say.....except this. KNTV was smart to snap up Tom. No offense to Jessica, but I thought his best co anchor was Catherine Heenan back on KRON weekends. They have really good chemistry and are both solid journalists.

  13. Frank Summerville? Really? Seriously?

  14. I hate to say this-but Frank Summerville is as nice a guy as they seem to to come..but dumb as a log. I heard him give an interview that just made my eyes roll as the dumb honesty of a very naive or trusting guy's words were spoken. Never forget it.

  15. Tom Sinkovitz nice guy but not the best anchor in the bay area. People don't give Dan Ashley at KGO enough credit. He does the 5, 6, 9 and 11. Smooth and sharp.
