Friday Liners

**That KTVU "Mornings on Two" female reporter breathlessly asking stupid questions to commuters stuck in traffic at the Bay Bridge toll plaza due to the disturbed guy in the SUV needs to understand a few things.

One, think a little before you "inquire." For example, to woman in car headed to SF: "So, how do you feel about being inconvenienced?" Commuter: "Uh, we'll, just have to deal with it." Uh, duh! (They both deserved each other)

By the way, the name of the reporter escaped me and tried feverishly to get it on the website. Memo to KTVU, it'd be nice to see the talent on the station--can't find 'em on your website.

**Props to KPIX for using common sense during the standoff: The local CBS aff pulled its news chopper slightly away from the affair on the bridge and decided not to zoom in on the man and the SUV.

**Tom Sinkovitz and Jessica Aguirre on NBC Bay Area--for my money, have become the best anchor duos in the Bay Area. A 1 to KTVU's 1-A pairing of Frank Somerville and Julie Haener. And yes, I know KTVU has the much bigger ratings, but we're not talking numbers here.

**Must be comforting to KRON that one of its more noticeable on-air peeps recently posted a "Hire me" status update on his Facebook account.

**Speaking of Facebook, its become the home of anchor/reporter promoting their various gigs which is fine I guess until the reporter/anchor gets caught in the cross hairs of a debate and things get touchy.

Such was the case of a noted KPIX female personality that asked for "peace" the day of the Mehserle sentencing only to see her comments in a thread get attacked by a few FBers. Best advice: stick to your beat and avoid outside issues.

**Yeah, I know its routine biz for news organizations to occasionally use someone else's press credential, for, say, a World Series game in SF. But not at the expense of a pissed-off reporter who had a legitimate reason to cover the scene inside the park and who told another guy how humiliated he felt.

**KRON is quietly hoping the controversial OPD shooting of an unarmed black man in Oakland picks up steam so they can begin sending out breathless reporters in the city streets to look for looting and mayhem and quite possibly land an Emmy for those eager-beavers Da Lin and Christine Connolly.

**The relentless, hopelessly horrible, continued 24/7 playing on radio of the "1-800-Kars-for Kids" jingle is enough to make one scream out loud, "Hey, shut the phuck up!" I'm not a big Don Imus fan, but we both agree on one thing: Good cause, terrible jingle.

**Memo to Steve Bitker of KCBS, who I've noted here is a pretty solid sports anchor: It's OK to laugh every once in awhile and understand that sports is not equivalent to curing cancer.

**See, KGO Radio? The TMZ crap in the morning and PM news blocks only works if the people listening give a damn--clearly they don't. You might want to stick to news and your "first traffic" shit and try the age-old concept of honest conversation. Manufactured giddiness and laborious celebrity gossip doesn't work, or have you looked at the ratings recently?

**THIS JUST IN: KNBR's  "Paulie Mac" was visibly shaken when asked by industry folks as to why he disappears when "Murph" asks those deep questions to various people. How shaken? He was almost set to throw his soundboard out on Hawthorne street, but thought better.

**Big week for Murph: gonna MC a "dude" dinner engagement in Montclair and think of how many UCLA references he can squeeze in next week.

**Pretty apparent that the Bay Area media much would have preferred Don Perata over Jean Quan in the Oakland mayor race, case in point, Chip Johnson in the Chron, but oh well, shit happens. Sure, Quan doesn't have the star power of "Teflon Don" but she can govern and in that town, that's a plus.

**Warriors tonsil, Bob Fitzgerald: pretty damn good on TV--god-awful on radio as a talk-show host. The words, "smarmy" and "arrogant" come to mind.

**Appointment radio if you're a political junkie like me: KCBS' Mark Sandolow Washington round-up. Terrific, insightful and cogent analysis by the savvy DC correspondent. (You too, Matier)

**Is Mike Krukow a million dollar baby? We'll soon find out as his contract is up and the Giants, preoccupied with World Series hangover, might want to fast-pace their beloved atta babe with a raise, but will they? I would think so, but as I said a few weeks back, that Larry Baer guy can play a little "country hardball" himself.

**Follow me on Twitter and Facebook and watch for my upcoming appearances on MSNBC in December.

  1. Fitzgerald is awful period. Hopefully new ownership will replace him. Jr. high basketball would be more appropriate.

  2. I recall you once referred to Aguirre as "eye candy". Now you think she and Sinkovitz are the best in the Bay Area. Bizarre! You must be smoozing for a job at that hellhole.

  3. Re: the Krukow/Baer item: the phrase is "country hardball". Just thought you might want to know.

  4. Great post!
I'm a big backer of Jessica too-but my god, what did she do to herself? She once had perfect heart shaped lips, and now she mutilated them by having them blown up to hideous proportions. They dont even move right when she speaks. Has anybody had the guts to tell her the truth?

Yeah-why is Pauly always silent when the show does interviews? Most weeks ne never says a word to Singletary to his face, although he does rip crazy Mike during the week.
That car jingle is from hell. It screams elite Danville brat helping the dumb poor kids.

Bob is the worst as an announcer-just last night Barnett-who was only given a one year contract while Lacob gave Bob the company spy and shill a multi year- Couldnt take anymore of Bob's excuse making and just cut him off as Bob rambled the excuse game.
Bob is like those crooked DJ's of the 50's,only Cumulus and the Warriors bend the laws to keep things legal-but not ethical by any means.

  5. And just what is so wrong about Carolyn Johnson and Dan Ashley??

  6. Id rather watch the Johnson/Ashley combo at least they KNOW where Clayton and Concord are! And they look good together. I also like Ann Notorangelo, shes eye candy. She knows where Concord is too.

  7. I gotta Dollar here that says that KPIXer that FBd & Tweeted "Peace" is going to slip up and get in some real hot water. She has this certain 20 something tendency and for her to be a married woman with fam, she sure's Tweets and FB a lot of pix with her and the "girls" around other dudes. I wonder how "The Voice" feels about all of that. Don't get me wrong- she has this sexy cougar vibe goin on- But I cringe at some of her tweets.

  8. I like Jessica as well but I also find myself fixating on her lips. She's got Joker Lips and I'm half expecting her to break out with a "Why so serious?" on the newscast. She always blended in and was quiet at Channel 7 so I do like her at Channel 3/11 with her role of being more in the spotlight.

But she is good. I like Ann as well.

And that is a trick question. I didn't think there were any deep questions on the morning show.

  9. Pauly Mac is just so out of place on that show, it's embarrassing.

No chemistry with the team or knowledge about the topics at hand. His interactions with the normal crew are usually awkward and off-topic. Like you said, he disappears during any serious interviews.

And even his "specialties," what he's supposed to bring to the table, are worse than you'd hear on a college station. Moronic, crappy sound bites that are mixed too high, overplayed, and interrupt the conversational flow. Stupid, simplistic music remakes which amount to him "singing" over an old rock song (changing maybe a dozen words).

I wish I knew who he had pictures of to justify his continued employment...

  10. Tom Sinkovitz has always been one of my favorite News Anchors, going all the way back to when he was at KRON. When Tom Sinkovitz left KRON I wish he would have landed at KPIX, they need a strong Male Anchor there.

As far as Jessica Aguirre is concerned, she lost me a long time ago when she was at Ch.7 KGO, when she said, "Governor Arnold won the 2004 Presidential Election for Grorge Bush."

If someone had a brain in this Region, they would realize that we in the North Bay are being ill-served by the KRON/KNTV news outlets. The San Jose News Outlet Ch.11 should have gotten the KRON programming!
