Election 2010; Talking to the Political Media Minions at Jerry's Party; the Wednesday dish

Is there a parade today?

Tuesday night was a little walk back into time. Went over the the Fox Theatre in Oakland and reported on the evening's festivities at Democratic central for the Alan Colmes radio show, (aired here locally on Green 960)

It was Jerry Brown remix night. His party. His night and it brought out the media biggies, from CNN and Fox/MsNBC to the LA/SF stations most of whom have talent now that consists of a slew of very young, toothy, blond, 30-somethings that approach every live shot as if they were auditioning to be Katie Couric's replacement.

Blackberry's everywhere at the Fox. The media hipsters that have now shot up the aisle like a figurative wild fire out of control. The "newbies" run amok. Some are very crafty on their laptop and type out a lot of passion. That's good. The others look as if they're just happy to be there at the food line and possess a sort of groupie mentality. Bizarre.

Then there's the old school group. Ran into the great venerable SF attorney, Jerry Hallisey. Jerry is vintage old-fashioned Democratic blood. A Pat Brown/Jerry Brown disciple holding court in media/VIPville. I hadn't seen him in year. "Nice Suit, Jerry! Is that a Wilkes Bashford special?, "I blurted out. He laughed, which was cool enough considering the Democrats were tanking nationally, except here in California where Brown beat out a $150 million onslaught, and where somehow, some way, Barbara Boxer escaped the wrath of Carly Fiorina, (has she conceded yet?)

Walking along media row, up comes Mike Sugerman, from KCBS/KPIX. "Hey Sugey, you're still doing your thing.!" "Sugey' is old-school too, late from the days of KFRC, circa 1984...Doug Sovern was there too, so I know full well, it was time to talk politics.

Around 8ish, CNN officially projected Jerry the winner, (big surprise) although Whitman would also delay a concession speech, (much to the chagrin to the Brown people)

An hour later, I did my twenty  with Alan Colmes who asked me how the pot proposal could have been voted down, (lots of institutional money from the you -know-who's); and the Boxer victory, (I guess Carly really cracked at the end--maybe she'll be outsourced now)

Some other notables at the event:

Ex-State lawmaker, Johan Klehs...CA Dem Part Communications whiz, Tenoch Flores...Brown confidant and close friend, Matthew Kelleher...and LA State Senator Gilbert Cedillo, who was being interviewed by one of those young southland TV hotties

Wasn't able to see any of the local political TV coverage, but given today's marginalized media product, that was just as well.

All in all, it was a cool evening in the 510.

  1. I once worked on a Brown campaign,I even broke bread at my cousins home with the man. Imagine that, just for helping,no big money contribution. Would Meg come to a humble home for somebody who didnt donate big money? No way in hell. And why she lost..

  3. Electing someone with very little political experience and a lousy voting record to the Governorship would be like eBay hiring a new CEO who's only track record in business is running a lemonade stand. Whitman should have built her resume and experience in the world of politics on a smaller level with town councils and being a mayor.
