THEY can't help themselves.
And what a schmuck I am for posting a lot of their excrement. (Most wouldn't, but unless its truly offensive and personal, I don't censor the comments)
This is a BLOG, not the NY Times or SF Chronicle, in case you don't know. This is seven-day-a-week center where I post items about media matters in the Bay Area, be it sports, news, culture, trends and occasional, yes, opinion.
I don't have all the numbers, but I'm told my material is read in virtually every newsroom in the Bay Area, for better or worse. And I have sponsors, take that. And believe me, it ain't 'cause they love me, they're looking at the bottom line a lot these days. Numbers rule.
I decided to do this because I thought it would be cool for those interested to get a straight, raw, no-nonsense look into the comings and goings of all things media in this town. It's not for everybody, sort of like me, your friendly insecure poster who has tried to give it to you real. How much did it cost you to get in my club? Precisely.
Every now and then I get information--some of it is plain rumor, some is false and some sticks. I generally point out what is the real deal. Yes, a lot of it involves who's about to get screwed and what companies are planning their latest shake down.
When I post material about the latter, I get a lot of the trolls. I call 'em the usual suspects because I know their pattern and with the help of a new computer geek, know where they're coming from, which is cool, its always good to gauge who reads you. Great marketing tool and other things too.
I posted an item yesterday about the possibility of a "colossal" shake-up at a major "broadcast outlet" coming soon. Someone inferred that I got off, so to speak, writing about "people's lives" behind those "microphones" that were about to get pink slips. As if to make the case that I enjoyed posting an item of their demise.
Not.
Truth is, I get a lot of information that's plainly false and doesn't make it onto the blog. I make phone calls and try to get information confirmed/checked, but there's a lot of people who won't talk to me and even if they did, they're not going to say anything anyway. Why would they? Would you?
Most of what I try to write is material that you couldn't get anywhere else and provide a good, succinct, daily read that will hopefully give you a smidgen of information and posts you wouldn't see anywhere else. You seem to have caught on that most of my material is fairly accurate. I don't write gossip unless stated otherwise and that brings me to a little story.
I've had too many people tell me I should "spice it up" and write about who's sleeping with who--"you can make a ton of money", blah-blah, blah...As I said before, not my game. Not that it wouldn't be entertaining, but really, I believe in the word, "karma". 'Nuff said.
Truly, this kind of post will once again bring back the trolls, but I'm used to that and will deal with that in a proper manner. Some of the trolls are interns that work at the various stations. Some are legitimate complainers who have issues with me which is fine as long as the personal shit is omitted. Some are in the "other" category that are consistent with their word pattern and mean no harm; in fact, some are quite funny and I enjoy reading them for their humor value.
I can take the heat. Bring it on. But also have the balls to ID yourself, (you can write a fake name) if you're gonna go all off ballistic on me. I actually get a kick out of those.
It's the coward lowlifes who like to heap insult and personal shit that sit behind their keyboards that spew a lot of invective that use the "anonymous" moniker. Please.
**KGO Radio--the latest:
Nothing new, other than what I've wrote: expect a lot of syndicated and re-air programming on the weekends...The PM news block from 4-7PM is gonno before the end of the year...Two-three major on-air talk hosts are set to leave, either via legitimate retirement, buyout, or simply dismissed. Specifics? When I get 'em, (and I will) I'll let you know.
Look at it this way: You must be doing something right. Keep it up...
ReplyDeleteKeep doing your thing. I’m sure the majority of readers enjoy your blog and there will always be haters. I give you credit for posting the trolls’ offensive comments, most bloggers would not. The trolls must be part of the organizations about which you report and thus it is understandable that they are on edge, especially when you report on impending doom.
ReplyDeleteAs for your update on KGO, I can take any of the big names leaving or being pushed out except for Gene Burns. His departure would be tough on me personally. I think he is the most professional and versatile host on KGO in the last 20 years.
You also hide behind the anonymity of your so called "sources" so you really can't be sitting there calling out the "trolls" that don't identify themselves. (incidentally, that's a lovely endearment for your readers) If you have the guts to name your source, I'd gladly post my name.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other poster. Gene seems to be a civilizing influence there and it'd be a shame if he left...with or without help.
ReplyDeleteTaliaferro almost has to be on the list of those to depart. He increasingly doesn't fit there. This isn't 1967.
Burns, Dr. Bill and Ronn all can stay. Rich, I contribute to Claycord.com which is also being read by all the newsrooms in the area and like you, the Mayor of Claycord gets a lot of shit and trolls. That means you both are doing a great job! Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteRadar
Rich, have you considered having a giant get together of posters at a (nice) restaurant somewhere in SF over the holidays?
