This Mike Singletary-Dennis O'Donnell saga has taken another hilarious turn.
UPDATE:
This is how your lemmings in the SF sports media have reacted to this development thus far:
David White, SF Chronicle/SFGate: Are you kidding me? Guess not.
KCBS: Has tried to get a comment from the 49ers and CBS5: Note: Both CBS5 and KCBS are owned by CBS.
KNBR? Haven't heard.
Lowell Cohn: Nothing yet.
SJMerc: Dan Brown noted the piece, (see link)
The 49ers and KPIX have decided to turn to that prized TV sports journalist, Kim Coyle, to assume duties.
According to 49ers spokesman Bob Lange, the station and the team made a "joint agreement to give the interviews a better dynamic going forward." (Insert: PUKE)
Uh huh. Sure. Try this: KPIX COWERS TO 49ERS AND MIKE SINGLETARY. What a FARCE! What essentially took place here: The Niners/Singletary wanted no part of O'Donnell and Channel 5 abided by their demand. Wonder how O'Donnell feels?
This is right out of the Gong Show. This amounts to a "lets devise something that makes both of us looking utterly foolish!"
Remember the movie, "GlenGary, Glennross?" It was a film, based on the popular David Mamet play where NO ONE, not a soul in the movie, nor the play, came off looking good. Everyone was despised.
This latest move by the 49ers and the increasingly bizarre CBS5 brass is right up there in the GlenGary. dept. It further erodes the credibility of KPIX and their relationship with the Niners, (gees, I wonder who pulls the strings) and only reinforces Mike Singletary as a powerful boob.
Who can watch KPIX news now and not snicker at their weak spined news department? Was it Obama? Big oil and huge money? or even the Mayor to force KPIX to it's knee's?..nah, it was a dumb, badly spoken football coach. And if the 49ers had concentrated on Seattle and New Orleans like they have on O'Donnell, they might not be a winless team.
ReplyDeletePathetic ,and I can hardly wait for the first real journalist to write an article in a magazine about the 49er/KPIX public embarrassment going on.
This whole episode reflects poorly on Singletary and the 49ers organization. That said, these 49ers preview shows are worthless anyway and are not what I would call "must see TV." The most interesting that ever happened on the show was Singletary flipping out on Dennis O'Donnell.
ReplyDeleteLastly, I bet coach Sing would not have been so combative with the former host of "49ers Preview," one Wayne Harrison Walker, himself a great all-pro linebacker in the NFL. Wayne might have challenged Singletary to a nutcracker face-off right on the spot.
