Barbieri and Brooks engage on KNBR, (sort of...)

Leave it none other than Ralph Barbieri himself to take on, (sort of) half of 'Fitz and Brooks on KNBR.

Barbieri opened his 3 PM show talking about the 49ers ineptitude in Seattle, and then, pointedly calling out Rod Brooks and Bob Fitzgerald for their shabby treatment of a caller who dared spoke ill of Alex Smith, (see my earlier post)

Barbieri rightly wondered aloud how the caller, who was trying to interject some valid points about Smith's lackluster play, could so thoroughly be shunned by Fitz/Brooks.

As Barbieri was speaking, Brooks came into the studio and temporarily lit into the razor--I don't think this was shtick--(because I've had the same encounter)--Barbieri tried to get in a word, edge-wise but Brooks, ever so much on the defensive, wouldn't let him have the floor.

After a few more awkward moments, Brooks departed and the show continued.

I'm glad Ralphie has figured out what I've been posting for some time: Fitz and Brooks think they know everything and that everyone else is dumb and stupid. Their universal smarmy treatment of those callers dumb enough to try to have a conversation with these guys speaks volumes, particularly when one of their hosts call them out.

Good point, razor, I've said the same thing for over two years.

  1. This is why everybody was so crestfallen to learn that the slimy little nob we know as "Fitz" was returning for another season of Warriors basketball on Comcast. Another season, I might add, that I'll have to watch games with the sound turned off so I don't have to listen to his "idiot wind."

I didn't hear Ralph criticize Brooks but good for him. It's about time. I was, however, listening to KNBR earlier today when that caller made the points about Alex Smith. Rod and the Boy Blunder were so distressed by his criticism of their golden child that they were literally panting and out of breath as they defended Smith's appalling and indefensible performance yesterday. At one point, they both blamed Crabtree for mistake that resulted in the deflected pass off his shoulder pad which became a pick. Yet, the Fox commentator during the game yesterday said that the error was on Smith, because a pass in such at such close range should not be thrown like a bullet (touch is required) and certainly needs to be more accurate. Yet here were these two buffoons piling on that poor caller today, who - might I add - made excellent and intelligent points and should have been treated with more respect.

Joe Lacob says he reads the sports blogs around the Bay Area. Well, if he reads this one, let this be another example of why your talentless TV announcer is so despised by fans in the Bay Area and why as much as the W's fans want to see Nellie tet canned, they want to see this toolbag get fired even more!

  2. I heard that, and other posted on SF Gate about that very call. Whats worse is,the called quoted Singletary as blaming SMITH,and the evil, liar duo,STILL blamed Crabtree as they do what they do best to truth-ignore it.
GM Lee Hammer has made KNBR one looooong infomercial not just out of F&B's,but the shilling is almost non stop, show after show. It's so rare to hear truth...we are shocked and give Barbieri credit for once not doubletalking? Amazing.

  3. For Ralph to not get a word in edgewise is REALLY saying something!!! I wish I heard it.

I'm glad Gary toned it down on the post game yesterday with Eric Wright (who always does a great job). After the bad loss, I don't think Gary's morning schtick would have struck the right tone. And I'm glad Willy "What am I do here?/Admiral Stockdale" Brown isn't part of the post game. That was just a bad fit last year.

But, as Tolbert and Wright were saying, it is just one game. We'll get a better idea of the team after a few games, for better or worse.

Alex Smith doesn't have any more excuses (although he tried yesterday) and this season will really show what he, Singletary, and Jed are made of.

For Smith, whether he can truly cut it or can he only play well enough to empress the coaches and win the job but no more.

For Singletary, if the talk matches the coaching or is there just too much on the job learning.

For Jed, if the first two don't succeed, does he have the balls to cut them loose, pull the trigger, and take control.

If not and Smith continues to struggle, think about it, the team will have spent HALF A DECADE farting around with him to see if he can measure up. Half a decade is an eternity in football and, considering how quick the Seahawks seems to be turning it around, it is inexcusable.

  6. There was more that lead up to this......for those of you that didn't listen to it. It started by Tom saying he had watched the NFL Shorts (A DirecTV exclusive) which I found funny since he promotes Xfinity. Secondly, Ralph started to say "I only watched about 1/2 the game........" well if you want to comment on something shouldn't you watch THE WHOLE GAME?? So he then lays into Fitz and Brooks for saying it was more than Alex Smith that was bad in the game..........which is 100% true Crabtree didn't bother to reach out to grab balls. The DBs didn't bother to cover guys etc. As for Fitz and the Warriors, I wish some of you could listen to some of the other PbyP they SUCK!! If he was really as bad as you want to make him sound to be.......why would NBC hire him for Olympics, Westwood One for NFL etc. He works for the W's he can't bash his employer on the air. Could you go on air and bash your company then expect to keep your job?
