KNEW; Clear Channel's clueless in SF tries to find an audience; Dito hosts new show on XTRA

KNEW, Clear Channel's conservative talk outlet in the city is truly a radio station that doesn't know what its doing, who exactly it aims to attract, and syndicated, largely out-of-market talk programming that essentially has no audience.

Other than that, things are just fine.

Outside of the Sacramento-based, Armstrong and Getty, (6-10 AM M-F), and Rob Black's finance show, everything else on this outlet is mainly audio mush. Nothing out of the ordinary that would cause you to listen.

At night, Phil Hendrie is a treat and I love his shtick. Hendrie is pretty much the only reason I listen to KNEW, with Armstrong and Getty generating a bit of buzz; everything else?, feh.

I don't know if Clear Channel brass have anything in store long-term for this dialer, but they obviously don't regard it as priority because bringing back retreads like Todd Schnitt and John Gibson aren't going to move the meter.

KNEW has branded much of its programming with Fox News radio, but I doubt it will make any ratings dent from conservative competitor, KSFO, which with market-share bulk and the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, and Levin, have the upper hand in conservative talk-radio here in the Bay Area.

**Veteran sports personality Ken Dito begins a new hour-long show Monday at 9 AM, "The Press Box", on XTRA Sports AM 860. It will focus on sports figures, writers, issues of the day and various sports tidbits. Among the first-day guests includes yours truly and renowned SF sports writer, Glenn Dickey.
