Is AM terrestrial radio still relevant? Yes; Ramey on Bonds: "I don't like 'a-holes"

Short one today due to a big event tonight...

Is AM radio still relevant? Yes.

Satellite reached its peak a few years back; while it is still popular, it still doesn't have the popular zenith that AM radio still possesses. Satellite is more competitive against FM, (better and more choices in music) but still lacks the AM news/talk/pop identity.

KGO, WABC, KABC are still heavy-duty talk stations in the conversation in spite of dwindling ad revenue and personnel shake-ups simply because people STILL listen to the radio. And in their car too.

Satellite can cling to selling points like voluminous amounts of music choices, MLB radio, NFL radio and the like, but the AM news/talk, all-news outlets continue to get bulk market share out of consumer reliability on FREE, attainable radio.

Satellite radio is a luxury and quite nice, but it is a PAY outlet and in these times, anything involving pay outlets in a free environment is murky at best.

**Potent quotable: Hal Ramey, appearing on Ken Dito's "Press Box" show Wednesday, was asked how he felt about Barry Bonds.

Ramey, PM sports anchor at KCBS, hedged a bit, but then shot this back: "I don't like 'a-holes."
