What I do and what I don't do; the Tuesday pulse

This is not a forum for innuendo and gossip. As much as the station heads' who don't particularly like me make accusations that I post "rumors" and "throw 'shit up against the wall", well, the truth is I don't and won't.

I have heard everything and could probably make a name by dishing out gossip. That's not my game. Check the archives.

Bloggers are not "journalists", (whatever that means lately) but I seriously try hard to "get it right."

I DO NOT and will not post rumors. And I'm not interested in who's sleeping with whom and this and that. I'm sure it would make for good copy and all, but I'm not looking for sensational, just merely good stories and occasional news.  Perez Hilton, I'm not, (although his checkbook is probably balanced.)

The only time I've gone the salacious route is if the 'salaciousness involves a legit news story or if the said lurid affair, (no pun) involves personnel or has an impact on staff morale.

There's a station in town that has a ton of that but its not anything that doesn't already exist at other stations here or anywhere else. Hello! Welcome to the business, I get it and I wasn't born yesterday. The only thing I'll say about that particular outlet is that THEY know that I know and for the moment, I'll leave it at that, and yes, I'm being vague for a purpose.

This is not a good time to write about the business. I fully understand the angst and anxiety that has wreaked havoc on the rank and file. It doesn't make me feel cool to have to write that KGO radio is about to eliminate its afternoon news, (which I'll continue to stand by that story) or that the new operative word is "buyout."

It pains me to see so many of the best people here leaving en mass to take early "retirement" when they're still at the top of their game. I can't fathom what it's like working in a newsroom these days, and that includes everywhere from the TV/radio/newspaper biz to the growing Internet sites. Everyone is on edge.

I'm going to continue to keep doing this as long as the financials allow me. I'm not making a fortune and although my readership continues to grow, the $$ are still relatively small, but so long as there's an audience and my advertising base expands, I'll do my damnest to keep this going.

God knows we need it. And I'm not being sanctimonious when I say I'm the ONLY one who does this, but well, I'm AM the only one who does this and having worked in the biz and knowing a bit about what's going on and such, I'd like to say that I have some degree of credibility. You can call me out when I get a little cranky and write negatively on someone or some station, but I'm always up front and never cover and hide.

Frankly, to go on and on about KRON and KNBR? It's piling on, so I've backed off a bit on those guys. I only mention them in passing now because those of you who read this know how I feel. I mean, it gets to a point of "not again"; I've said all I can, and truly now, will only post items that pertain to news when it involves those guys.
