Exclusive: Randy Shandobil-Political Reporter/Editor; retires from KTVU; will leave after November elections
KTVU's award-winning, ace political reporter/editor, Randy Shandobil, will be leaving KTVU after the November elections.
Shandobil, according to a reliable broadcast source, has announced his retirement to station officials. He becomes the third major personality to leave the Oakland-based Fox affiliate in the last year and a half.
Last October, Ross Macgowan left the stations' "Mornings on Two" program, and in May, 2008, long-time anchor, Dennis Richmond retired after 40 years at KTVU. Shandobil has been at KTVU since 1978.
Attempts to reach Shandobil were unavailable at press time.
Shandobil has won eight Emmy Awards, Gold and Bronze Medals at the New York International Film and Television Festival, the Freedom of Information Award from the Society of Professional Journalists, and the California Journalism Award for excellence in political reporting four times, most recently in 2003.

Very talented guy, and one of the few reporters around here with gravitas. He will be greatly missed. The venerable Bob MacKenzie also retired from everyday reporting not long ago, although I think he still may do special projects over at KTVU. All the great ones are fading away, meanwhile, every time I turn on my TV in the morning, I'm confronted with hams of questionable talent like frenetic Darya Folsom and the irritatingly too-cool-for-his-own-good John Kessler...
ReplyDeleteThe business, DarbyO, has gone into the toilet. Different world. It's getting uglier every day.
ReplyDeleteKTVU is always number one, and will remain #1,, Darya Folsom and KRON makes me sick,, they are losers,, You cant compete with KTVU,, they have real people, Darya needs decaf, and different clothes on camera,, she will never beat heather Holmes or Julie Haener
