Laura Marquez of ABC News, SF, on possible ax list; News bureaus close at Alphabet network

Laura Marquez, ABC News correspondent, formerly of KGO-TV, (ABC7,) is one of six correspondents that could get the ax in ABC News recent announcement of a 10-25% staff reduction and virtual shutdown of almost all ABC bureaus except NY.

Correspondents Brian Rooney (Los Angeles), Mike Von Fremd (Los Angeles), Lisa Fletcher (Los Angeles), Neal Karlinsky (Seattle), and Ryan Owen (Dallas) are on the "review list." TER.com reports that just two of the six will be retained.

ABC is preparing to use "digital journalists" to replace the news bureaus that will be closed. An ABC News spokesperson in NY declined to comment for this story.

ABC News has a staff of over 1440 in its news division. Earlier in the week, news pres. David Westin said "at least 140 positions" would be eliminated.
