BREAKING NEWS; KNBR's Damon Bruce moves to KNBR 1050; New show in the 'daylight' Noon-4PM
BREAKING NEWS...
KNBR's Damon Bruce announced he's moving to KNBR 1050 "in the daylight" (KNBR 1050 is KNBR's sister station) His new show will debut next Monday, (Noon-4PM)
Bruce will now compete with KNBR 680's Fitz and Brooks show, (that's like Letterman up against C-Span re-runs)
Bruce has been at KNBR since 2005; he will be replaced by ex-Giants, Sacramento sports-talk radio host, F.P. Santangelo.

I'm still simmering on this and how I feel. I like D-Bruce ("Oy Oy Oy Oy!!!!"). It's good in that I now can just turn the dial to 1050 rather than turning the dial off at noon.
ReplyDeletePart of me feels this is just another placation to the Giants. F.P. is nice enough and works well on TV. But the guy has bounced around a lot in the last few years between his former radio gig up in Sacto to Giants and A's Comcast news. I hope he's in it for the long haul and understands you got to put in your hours at night, take the angry calls after a bad Giants loss, and be impartial at least some of the time. No cutting out early to ESPN Radio because he'd rather be hanging with the boys in the clubhouse. But then F.P., as a former player, does offer a unique perspective and would probably get more players on his show.
The more I think about it, this just might be a Win-Win for everyone. Here's hoping Bruce does well and gets better ratings.
BTW, hasn't F.P. been up for the KNBR evening gig once before? I seem to recall that when the Giants ran Larry Kruger out...., I mean, when the station parted ways with Larry Kruger back in 2005, F.P. was up for the gig but they went with Bruce. Was it a money thing or did they just feel Bruce would do better?
Mitchell Report poster child FP will no doubt go easy on the Giants, per the orders of his slave master, Larry Baer. This is where Damon ran in to problems - he wouldn't play ball with the Giants and be a shameless shill for team. FP, a lightweight talent who is lucky to have a job, will take that deal any day of the week because he has no pride.
ReplyDeleteI really can't stand it when former players become TV and radio broadcasters because they almost never give the viewers/listeners a fair view of things. They always side with the players. Krukow is the worst offender in this regard because he just can't bring himself to be critical of Giants players, particularly the pitchers. There are games where he goes on and on in praise of Zito, and meanwhile the Giants are down 7-0 in the 2nd inning. FP, from the few times I've held my nose and listened to him, is much the same way - always giving the player the benefit of the doubt. Hey, sometimes these guys play poorly and need to be criticized, and sometimes they're just not good enough to play in bigs, and that needs to be said too. End of story.
On a side note, good luck to Damon Bruce at 1050. He should have no problem beating the appallingly bad "Flunkster and Brooks" in that 12-3 PM time slot.
