Stanley Roberts; KRON4's 'People behaving Badly'; Friday short

You don't want to run into KRON4's Stanley Roberts.

Seriously.

Roberts is the reporter behind "people behaving badly", a popular segment in the station's news shows, in which the traffic abyss called Bay Area drivers and their foolishness get chronicled by Roberts, secretly. In essence, and bless his soul for doing this public service, Roberts acts as a vehicular peeping-tom.

He and camera navigate people double-parking on city streets; (sometimes oblivious to Roberts presence--good luck with that,) idiot drivers who do 80 when its pouring rain on the Bay Bridge; and the usual yahoos who run red lights and view stop signs as irrelevant road ornaments.

One of my favorite Roberts story dealt with that big rig, which sheared a portion of 880 near the Bay Bridge. As construction guys worked feverishly to get that new section inserted, it became a tourist attraction for ardent rubber-necks. Enter Roberts, who taped several folks parking their cars and glancing at the mayhem, again, oblivious to the fact that they themselves were creating a road hazard. It was vintage "people behaving badly"; sort of an Oscar for the stupid commuter. I wish it was on KRON's web site.

The first time I saw Roberts video play in action, I thought it was some kind of joke. Roberts narratives are downright funny and occasionally hilarious. His drawl voice adds a bit of suspense to each segment and what begins as a sort of mundane, routine traffic TV tidbit turns into a clever, often adroit visual of just how stupid, foolish and bizarre people act. Yeah, indeed, people damn do behave badly, especially when they think no ones watching.
