Rosie Allen on Ronn; Melanie Morgan; KRON; NBC Bay Area gets leaner; the Wednesday pulse
THE WEDNESDAY PULSE--
**Rosie Allen will be on with Ronn Owens later today, (Wednesday) from 11AM--12 to say goodbye to Bay Area listeners, although, as reported here, she's NOT retiring, just leaving the KGO Radio afternoon news. I doubt Allen will embellish on the major reasons why she's suddenly leaving, but I think she read the room and decided it was time. Early speculation in this corner for Allen's replacement: Jon Bristow.
**Got a note from a KRON on-air staffer "friend" on Facebook jokingly plea that I don't write "bad things" about them. All jokes aside, I'm not a KRON basher. I know its a tough world out there and I'm a part of it. I'm a 'rank and file kinda guy and a lof of KRON's reporters/VJ's are actually pretty good at what they do, minus the dog-and-pony garage sales on the weekends.
Its KRON's owners and management that need some inner cleansing. I mean, for starters, its pretty hard to screw up a cash cow, even in this economy, like KRON was at one time. Sure, the detachment from NBC was a major blow, (to both KRON and NBC itself) yet other big stations in other big markets seem to have worked it out.
In fact, revenue streams look to become far more lucrative this year thanks to car dealers buying more time, and the onslaught of political ads for this election year.
KRON4 reporters and anchors, writers and producers, under the circumstances, put out a generally decent newscast from time to time. I'm not piling on them, but management? That's another story. Or better yet, from what I've heard, there's a ton of stories.
I'll leave it at that.
**Speaking of revenue streams, NBC Bay Area can't wait for the Olympics. The San Jose NBC affiliate has seen a dramatic newsroom reduction. Haven't we heard this story before? Yes, its the economy stupid!
**A few derisive e-mails, (but mostly good ones) about the "fluff" piece on CBS5's weather woman, Roberta Gonzales. Every now and then, I like to bring a different flavor to the ice cream store. Gonzales used to drive me nuts, but I grew to like her and not just for the obvious eye-candy reasons.
For one, she and her husband, Randy Hahn, (Sharks TV announcer) are quite active in charity causes. And both are much the same OFF the air as they are, ON the air. Having worked in this business I can tell you how many A-grade a-holes they're are, so yes, Roberta and Randy are refreshing.
And Gonzalez is one of the few weather predictors who takes her Doppler radar seriously. Now that's dedication.
**Our politics are at vast polar ends and I've occasionally riffed ex-KSFO talkie, Melanie Morgan, but now is not the time to go there. Melanie, truly, I wish you all the best in your "health challenge."
**Speaking of KSFO, Lee Rodgers takes pleasure in pointing out all his personal orgasm that "LIBER-RALS" secretly listen to his morning show. No Lee, for one, your ratings were down in the last December PPM, and secondly, most of the "bleepin' 'libs'" listening are merely doing so to see how low you can go.
Rodgers act, and it's partly performance-based, is nothing like his days at sister station, KGO. If he truly has moved to the far,far lunatic right, so be it, but his putrid, hate-filled monologues have become nothing more than 'rile-up-the masses' audio histrionics. Besides, there's only one Glenn Beck, and that's one too many.
**Lest you think I'm a typical "LIB", no, more center left, and get this? Keith Olbermann is a truly talented writer and ultra pain in the tuchus. See, we don't all think alike.
**By the way, has anyone seen Ann Coulter lately? Karma.
**CNN and the Kathy Griffin affair on New Years eve? Quick summation. CNN is desperate for attention, any attention, and so the Anderson Cooper-Griffin circus was exactly what the big suits were looking for, only in the end, Griffin's stock went further down the toilet, (nice career move, Kath--ever heard of the 'e-list?) and Cooper's forced shrugs looked pained and utterly foolish.
**On the other hand, though, at least CNN didn't cart out Dick Clark. Sad.
**Headed for syndication: KGO's Len Tillem. "How come you're callin' a 'loyer?'" Tillem has attracted a loyal audience his noon show begs for a national audience that will surely become the legal equivalent of Dr. Dean Edell's prescriptions.
**Desperado in motion: KNBR's silly, ridiculous, promos for that huge, mega-signing free-agent deal the Giants signed Mark DeRosa to. Yeah, that'll move the meter. Can't wait for that fanfest. I'm sure little Jimmy in Brisbane is screaming, "Mommy, Daddy, the Giants signed Mark DeRosa! OMG!!"
**Jumped the Sharkitis and well-deserved: ALL Tiger Woods jokes and Rush Limbaugh lines. Limbaugh especially; why? too easy, heart and all.
**Earth to KTVU's shopping gal, Malou Nubla: Has the business got that bad, you're now reduced to that? Then again, at least you're prettier than Henry Tennanbaum.

Malou Nubla once was feautured on a KPIX show
ReplyDelete"Where's Malou?" She's at KTVU now? What Bay Area station hasn't she worked for?
She(nubla) keep on jumping ship it means that there's no job for her, i don't find her appealling at all, i rather turned off my tv than watch her, no wonder rating's are badly low (malou review), same thing happen when she worked in kpix5.
ReplyDeleteAbout roberta gonzales, this women make me sick when she report in tv or radio and keep on changing her tone of voice is really annoying and the way she dress up her self it's look like a christmas tree, i guess when you work in tv station you have to be appealing and fresh but on her it's like like a rotten fish that you keep on pouring water to make it fresh.
ReplyDeleteShe changes jobs like I change my underwear!
