As word breaks from Washington that David Souter will retire from the Supreme Court in June, President Obama will have his first chance at picking a justice that will shape the court for years to come.
That choice should be Senator Dianne Feinstein.
That choice should be Senator Dianne Feinstein.
At 75, Feinstein is in robust health and would make an excellent candidate for the nation's highest court.
She is an experienced, highly-respected, three-term Democratic Senator from the country's biggest state, and has universal appeal from women, moderate Republican lawmakers, and of course, her Democratic constituency.
She'd make an excellent jurist.
