  1. I had the privilege of working in the KPIX newsroom in the 80’s and ‘90’s. Your description of Mac, Kate, Murf and Wayne is, simply, spot-on. They were outstanding.

    1. You may have had the privilege of working with them in the 80s and 90s, but did you have the privilege of sniffing their dung?

    2. 12:59, I did and that’s one of the reasons why Kate Kelly was one of the best

  3. These 4 local TV news and sports anchors were terrific and well respected by those of us who also worked on-air here in the bay area. They were not only among the best in the business but importantly, they were nice folks.

  4. I was never someone who religiously watched TV news, but the people you've recognized were the kind of news anchors you rarely see anymore in local television. And the biggest reason for that? Now we have predatory mega-companies that own almost all of this country's TV stations. Their priority is maximuzing profits, rather than serving the public. So they're cheap and hire talent that is largely minor league quality. There aren't a lot of young people today who really want to get into broadcasting, simply because broadcasting has been marginalized by the internet and the iPhone. To a greater degree, thanks to the dolts who run companies such as iheart and cumulus, lical radio has been like all but wiped out.
The newspaper business is pretty much dead because this too, and television has been downsized because of our unhealthy obsession with cell phones. it's a shame we've lost a lot of the human connection.
