Lund called into the Papa/Lund show today. He sounded good and was probably prepared for the axe for some time. It never feels great to be let go, especially during the holidays. All the best to everyone who was let go.
I feel a big reason for KNBR's decline is that they have become beholden to the teams they carry and the hosts are no longer allowed to criticize them. It's been years since I felt like I was listening to an honest or real conversation - KNBR has become more or less a Giants/Niners infomercial. That's why I switched to the national shows.
Tom Tolbert is the nicest person in the world. Sad he was fired, but he gave me 30 years of joy and laughs, especially when he did the Super Bowl remotes. Going to miss the man and KNBR lost its soul today. Hit the switch and end it, KNBR is now off my dial forever, like KGO.
Try being a neighbor of Tom’s. That will change your tune real quick. You so much as look at him outside his house, he explodes. And there’s a whole lot more.
Could not disagree more Tolbert tested the requirements of Human Resources: talking about dogshit at dinner time (really!), talking about his bowel movements, waxing ineloquently about skunky beer, describing his gambling wagers. He thought he was something special while behaving like a below average, boorish idiot. I would not worry about him, he gets free beer every day, and has great seats at Warrior’s games.
Rich, did you read Ann Killian’s piece? as expected, it looks like she basically ripped off everything you said in your broadcast from the other night when you broke the news about Tolbert and Lund, and shared your great perspectives about what it means both for KNBR and for radio in general. And as expected, she gave you absolutely no attribution. Local lamestream media is so pathetic.
I agree! Tolbert on balance was knowledgeable, humorous and fun. Was he perfect? Of course not, especially in Rich Lieberman world. Everyone pretty much stinks and is incompetent.
Strange listening to Papa without Lund, and very awkward having Tolbert do a last farewell show.

DeleteKNBR wonders why their rating sucks.
ReplyDeleteRemember this, their lousy ratings were because of Tolbert, Lund, Murphy, Copes.
DeleteDo a shitty job, get fired. That is how capitalism works
By 2:01 PM Papa forgot Lund's name
