Mayhem (Again) on the Morning Drive at KCBS: Multiple Glitches F-Up Bunger and Bitker

NOT ONCE...NOT TWICE...BUT, 3 TIMES!

In another (again) EMBARRASSING morning on KCBS, all hell broke loose...and YOU heard it. At least if you were listening to the morning news between prior-6 AM and 7.

Painful stuff.

STAN BUNGER, on at least multiple occasions, was subject to GLITCH-central. During the 5: 45 and both the 6:15 and 6: 30 SPORTS updates with STEVE BITKER, the sports sounder was inadvertently played. One time, the sounder drowned out a commercial. It happened twice at 6: 15 alone.

Bunger blurted out: "Maybe I should be the one that's retiring." He was refering to outgoing Bitker whose last day is tomorrow. Well Stan, to be truthful, you ARE retiring yourself and your own last day is June 11th (as I reported a month ago) Perhaps the KCBS tech division has retired too but didn't tell anyone.

THIS LATEST electronic BS has PLAGUED KCBS and it continues to wreak havoc at the AUDACY SF all-newser. Bunger, who has blungled up enough times as to warrant suspicion around the 740 AM (and 106.9 FM) was left in another awkward morning series of "oh shits" with goofy Bitker on the receiving end.

Something tells me, ND, JENNIFER SEELIG, will not be in a good mood come later Thursday.

  1. kcBS radio has gone down the dumper. This last few months have just be problem after problem. Sad to see this happening to our only bay area radio news station.

  2. KCBS has the AUDACITY to be on the air. What a joke. You can take students from college student-run radio stations and they'd do a way better job. KCBS is the ONLY local radio station I listen to only because of news. Well, it WAS...

  3. Speaking of morning drive time radio . . . I turned on KNBR this morning after a long absence (working from home for over a year; didn't need to be driving anywhere in the mornings until today). I hear something about the Murph and Mac Hour of Power, with no commercials. Awesome, I think--an hour of sports talk, and no commercials. Right out of the gate, fifteen minutes on chicken nuggets and how to eat potstickers. FIFTEEN FUCKING MINUTES. Sigh . . .

At least Paulie Mac eventually mentioned the Sharks (their season ended last night) and had some good stuff to say about them. Credit where credit is due and all that. Yookla Smurph hates hockey by his own admission, so glad to see the Sharks get some attention.

  4. Sadly, I agree with 9:38 am: Jennifer Seelig et. al. will shrug this one off; nobody gives a shit anymore about the quality of the broadcast chops, at least not on AM radio. If the audio is intelligible at all, if the silence alarm isn't screaming, if the on-air staff can keep from uttering (god forbid) one of the 7 naughty words, why then we're all good.

Oh yeah and don't say "ready to rumble" that's copyrighted, and half the music library is off limits too lest we should have to pay for it. But other than that we're all good. Works for Doug Andrews anyway.

  5. One other thought: it's not an accident that all these KCBS veterans are quitting now: they probably are more chagrined then most of us at the appalling state of the radio industry, and are ready to wash their hands of it. I'm getting there.

  6. All Seelig has to do is muster the courage to ask Audacy to please consider the important of quality transmission equipment. Oh yeah, I forget. She has no courage. And Audacy is only interested in stock, and not resources. Smh
