415 Media Exclusive: KPIX Anchor, Veronica De La Cruz Recovering from Coronavirus

Veronica De La Cruz Is Still MIA at KPIX and KPIX Is Mum; High ...
Veronica De La Cruz

KPIX lead anchor, Veronica De La Cruz, contracted the Coronavirus COVID-19 virus , I've learned, but she has recovered and told friends and associates that she's planning on being back at PIX within the next two weeks.

I reached out to her (De La Cruz) for a comment--at press time, De La Cruz did not immediately respond.

The KPIX anchor, who came to the Bay Area with much fanfare from NY in 2014, has been conspicuously absent from the CBS5 airwaves the past month.

According to sources I spoke to, who spoke under condition of anonymity, De La Cruz took a medical leave from KPIX when she discovered she had had the Covid-19 virus.

De la Cruz is the first Bay Area TV News anchor to have contracted the virus. We're obviously happy that she's apparently OK and due to be back on the air in a few weeks.

This is but the latest bad vibes to hit the local CBS O and O--things can only get better.

They hope.

  1. Glad you're feeling better, VDLC, any idea how/where/who you "may" have got it from? Trackers should be on this one to trace the infection. Hope your boy and other family are okay. You have my heart, VLDC (Bianchi).

  2. Good heavens this woman attracts bizarre circumstances almost as a hobby. It wasn't long ago that her son was attacked by a dog, followed by her being attacked by a fish while in Thailand. What's next?

  3. Maybe someone from PIX staff can chime in here anonymously. With all Miss Saigon's drama and ongoing absences, what is the reason PIX management has not let her go?

  8. 2:48PM...I am a believer that there really is such a thing as an
Accident Prone person. I have met a couple myself. Most these folks are highly energetic, the types who don't look before they leap, or step or touch something.

  9. She is loved by CBS so much that they've named a show after her ... GAME ON!!!!

  10. So she has the virus understood. She must have tested positive in the middle of March when she disappeared on air. So should not have the rest of the night time anchors.. Cook, Bastida, O'donnell, the new weather guy also should have been off air on quarrantine for 2 weeks? Should we not have gotten Kenny Choi and Betty Yu at 5,6 and 11 every night in March?

  11. "We're obviously happy that she's apparently OK ... "

Obviously? After the way you've trashed her year after year for no apparent reason, it's hardly "obvious" that you'd be happy about her recovery from a dire disease. You're just glad she survived so you can continue to snipe at her.

  14. Her boyfriend if she still has one should run far far away FAST!!! The only reporter with troubling bad luck from East to West. One more thing, work at home and don't spread it to other co-workers. Liz has a family, Ken is heading for retirement and cannot afford germs to ruin their good lives. Covid can resume again if infected

  15. This changes PIX's VDLC dynamic. Now, will VDLC be willing to find a room in her home to broadcast from, is the next question. We shall see if VDLC is self-secure enough to stay away from the studio and allow PIX's tech crew fit a camera and mic in her chosen room.

  16. I don't think I've seen VDLC on KPIX for at least a year. There are no recent stories or mentions about her. Why the mystery? Where is she?
