Sunday Punch Full of Turkey Sandwiches
*Thanksgiving week --the beginning of the real onslaught of live shots from SFO, the revving up of MOS interviews from the white-people enclave of the fountain in Walnut Creek, and Emeryville Chevron gas station.
*Those KNBR junkets to Hawaii with listeners cozying up to a few of their tonsils doesn't cost the local, Cumulus all-sports station a dime. It's mostly a barter deal and it allows for freebies and talent morale (if that's possible) to mix and mingle on the islands. The airline and hotel gets plenty of free air and KNBR gets its listeners cozy time on the islands. Basically, good will and PR for all.
*KCBS is swimming in ratings nirvana but its back and forth commercials in an hour every day is killing its content. In a half-hour of time, there's roughly four or five minutes of actual news. And that's not including traffic and weather reports. To hell with the news, gotta have those uber-repetious same-old weather reports. It's supposed to rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, whoa boy!
*Actually, I'd love for one of those stranded passengers at SFO on Wednesday to ask reporter: "why do you ask such stupid questions?"
*If Raj Mathai of NBC Bay Area wants a cool few millions of Gotham life, 30 Rock is still willing to make the San Jose anchor the deal of a lifetime. Raj isn't going anywhere with Bay Area love and a family with kids but there's one thing money can't buy and that's poverty.
*Good lord, she just can't help herself, that mishegoss misfit named Darya Folsom who gets goofier by the day. Hell, it's as if she's sharing bedtime stories with the boss--wait a minute!
*KGO quick re-tool: Dump Batchelor at 9 PM and let Rothmann go from 7-Midnight.
*I'm waiting for the time when Greg Papa says on KNBR that the 49ers' winning is because of Pop's hiring. It might sound like a joke, but with Papa it wouldn't be because Papa won't be joking.
*Hal Ramey, Ted Ramey: nepotism still thriving.,
*I offered up 10 buck, 10 months subscriptions so I could buy a slice of pecan pie at the Macys food shack so, hey, ante up, 415 Media admirers!
*You want some live shot drama, mister, misses reporter on TV News? Spend a night with one of the homeless near the Bay Bridge or 101 5th street underpass, now that would be worth watching.
*It's not the wimpy, wasted time spent by the wimpy, wasted stations that send reporters to Walnut Creek to ask the yuppies and token black about their Christmas shopping ideas, it's the reporter who acts as if its their prom night out and looks so loopy too. Get a fucking grip and do your damn job.
*Yes, I'm hard on Susan Leigh Taylor--have you heard her? Next question.
*Yes, I'm hard on Stan Bunger--have you heard the weatherman?
*Melanie Woodrow, KGO-TV reporter, looks like one of those Play-Misty-for-me women from the Clint Eastwood movie franchises. Take a look.
*Nikki Medoro is doing what she precisely is paid to do and it's kind of sexy to me. (I know, totally bizarre on my part, but it's the truth.)
*Christine Craft needs to be back at a KGO Radio studio (or her her home studio) rather than writing opines on my site but, hey, whatever.
*I get this question all the time: Bernie Ward ever coming back to KGO? No.
*There should be, yes, a local Meet the Press but no one wants to spend the money because they think all of you are a bunch of uneducated dorks, that's essentially it if you want the truth.
*Or, to be precise? KQED is too busy spending its money on quiche and coffee mugs.
*A KTVU News Director more concerned about a messy lunch room than actual news stories which is true because Fox has a cleanliness fetish that Murdoch's boys began and is still nourished.
*Speaking of MTP, Chuck Todd didn't graduate college so there's plenty of hope. Todd will be in SF next week at the Concordia Club for a private gig. Attention, Jim Jordan.
*Trump: impeached (probably) --convicted? (Not Likely) Reelected? (Probably)
NOTE: I'll be here all Thanksgiving week and day --we never take off unless Costco is giving away free tubs of mayonnaise.

I don't know how either of those disgusting people will ever be able to get employment anywhere—even the new Oakland Target—if KRON ever goes under, so they'd better pray it doesn't happen. They're both disgusting and have both broken every rule, written and unwritten, about how to behave in the corporate work world. That both are high-level employees at Channel 4 shows you what a shitbox that place has become.
Bernie Ward did his time. Time to let him back on to ply his trade. (Maybe he should change his name since he's apparently radioactive otherwise).
ReplyDeleteAny crimes involving children are a death sentence for the perp. If his online crimes involved adults, he would probably get another chance. Look at Marv Albert. He is
Deleteas sleazy as they come, but he pretty much re-entered the broadcasting world after a brief exodus.
Nikki is a steaming pile of hot garbage.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Nikki (turn the dial), a caller got through to Chip Thursday or Friday and called him a cuck on the air. Chip was somewhat shocked and had no "witty" or snarky response as he usually does. Neither did his sidekick, Rosie Perez. Silence from her.
ReplyDeleteThat man was speaking for a fair amount of KGO's listeners. Glad he got through. Too funny.
TOUCHDOWN San-Fran-Cis-COOHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! How fucking annoying is that.
ReplyDeleteYes, Papa's touchdown call is a joke. He's a Brockmire.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many irritating things about SF radio these days.
1. The jewelry store with the overproduced ads. You can tell they're made by some agency that is billing their client up the wazoo, putting everybody they know on the budget because it's easy money. The ads stink. They don't sell any jewelry. (Funny thing is that the male voice on these spots is, in Southern California, the voice of Stinky the Plumber on commercials there.)
2. Next irritation -- nasal woman who reads spots on the cumulus stations (KNBR, KSFO, KGO). First noticed this terrible voice doing spots during the 49ers games a year or two ago. I thought, how cruel it is to put a woman with a bad head cold on the air. No energy in her voice either. Sounds like a bored middle class housewife.
3. John Rothmann interrupting, talking over and hanging up on people who disagree with him. Good talk radio is when the host engages in intelligent banter with his or her callers when they disagree. Hosts from the past like Gene Burns, Jim Eason and Lee Rodgers made this part of the show fun. They could hold up their end of the debate with "Joe from Hayward" or "Stan from Marin." I guess there was a reason Mickey Luckoff never gave Rothmann a weekday gig.
Absolutely right about Rothmann. I've called and challenged him and he goes inyo his "no no no no no no no I will not let you tell lies, etc etc" Truly pathetic. Rothmann does a lot with his malifluous(spelling?) voice but it doesn't make him smart or fair. It just sounds like he's doing that.
DeleteLets keep John Batchlor where and when he is. Rothman just loves to hear himself talk, 11 months of election stuff to go, YUCK!
ReplyDeleteNiki medoro's voice is HOT. Christine Kraft needs to stop justifying the Bernie ward fiasco by excusing it by "just having some images." Really??
ReplyDeleteVoice is not indicative of the whole package.
DeleteI know the total package.
DeleteI do not now, nor have I ever "excused" what you call the "Bernie Ward" fiasco as a matter of him "just having some images". He and 99 others had child pornography on their computers. Only one of these individuals was prosecuted. Bernie had told me, prior to his arrest, conviction and six year imprisonment, that he had been working on a book about hypocrisy on behalf of the religious right, and that some of those 98 other people matched that description. Of course, that wouldn't give him any "journalistic" right to engage in such internet exchanges. That he thought he could, speaks to his own hubris. That said, since Bernie never molested anyone, and since the images in question were decades old, the fundamental truth about his crime, was that it was, in fact, a thought crime. We now have an American president with a pending rape suit against him from a thirteen year old girl, encountered chez Epstein(not a picture, but the real deal) I do know that Bernie, at his best, was an extraordinarily good talk host and that certain individuals delighted in helping to take him down, not because of his crime, but because he got better numbers than they did. That said, I don't see traditional talk radio in his future. As for the "kraft" deal, you are thinking of the cheese. I"m the speed boat.
ReplyDeleteTotal BS!! Have you ever seen Child porn "images". You DID try to excuse it! He deserved every day of his sentence! What does 99 other have to do with anything?? A book?? Right!!
DeleteOh Christine you know better than to make excuses for any kind of child pornography. Real or not no one should have or be comfortable with any images like this. If he was actually researching a book there has to ways to research this part of it legally. What he did was horribly wrong and highly illegal and he got what he deserved for it.
DeleteI will agree that Bernie was a very good talk show host and he could hold his own with anyone. I would love to see him go head to head with Hannity. But that in no way excuses what he did. He paid his debt and if a radio station wants to hire him they can do that. I just don't see it ever happening.
*KGO quick re-tool: Dump Batchelor at 9 PM and let Rothmann go from 7-Midnight.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more...
Re: Dump Batchelor & Extend Rothmann
ReplyDeleteYes, Yes, Yes. Spot on there Rich. Any change that removes Batchelor from KGO's airwaves would make the station more listenable. Given my druthers, I'd prefer JR's show be moved to the 9 PM - 1 AM slot, and a new live/local host be installed 6 pm to 9 pm. Will Durst, Gil Gross, Norman Goldman, or new talent.
I like some of Batchelor's shows, especially when he has show that goes back in time, he recently had an author on that has written a book about Kennedy, he did an excellent show about the bombing of Hiroshima, however when he gets into the Republican talking point he looses me. I would prefer he came on at 10 or 11 p.m. John could easily do 4 hours, 5 I think is too much, not because I don't like John, he is my favorite, it just seems all talk shows are 2 to 4 hours, and since a good host does a lot of prep, it seems 5 hours, 5 days a week. would be extremely challenging. Perhaps one hour of news from 6 to 7 p.m. could work. When KGO was a highly rated station they had news on several times a day, so I think that scenario would work, as long as they keep it to just 1 or 2 hours.
