415 Media Exclusive: 'Thompson Days Numbered at KGO Radio'

BACK IN MARCH, KGO Radio began its latest iteration as a news-talk staple Monday thru Friday and hired former Bay Area/KRON weather personality, Mark Thompson, as its 10-to-Noon mainstay.

What a disaster! NO ratings. NO buzz. NO listener feedback good, bad, or indifferent. In other words, a DISASTER.

Now the latest from a prominent KGO source: "Thompson's days are numbered." How so? Because Thompson himself hasn't taken the gig seriously, all apparently with KGO's OK. Thompson hasn't even moved back to the Bay Area to do his show partly because he still does radio in LA and hasn't bothered to devote any real prep time for Bay Area audiences.

Said the source: "From day one it was him (Thompson) who thought he could wing it and just shoot straight ahead. It didn't work then and it doesn't work now."

Indeed, KGO's ratings have flatlined since March and even preceding an election year and the crazy Trump machinations have produced little traction. Thompson even had to resort to a local has-been to inquire recently, "What am I doing wrong?" Maybe it's not so much what he's doing wrong it's just that the Bay Area talk people have universally rejected him which might explain why his future at KGO is el gonno.

    1. You're not smart enough to appreciate Ronn. Sad.

  2. As I said when it was first announced that he would be on KGO. He sucked when he was here on TV many years ago and he would still suck here on radio.

  3. Thompson, though, IS doing the show from SF. He may have done some from LA, but I listen most days and he's always been doing it from the cumulus cluster on Battery and B'way.

As for the ratings, I don't know-every show I listen to from Thompson to Pat to Chip to John- all have very full boards, callers waiting to get on, that is a huge audience listening out there.

    1. Not true. Thompson has done his show from SF only twice. He is in LA the rest of the time.

  4. To 4:07 or Gil Gross, l'll take Ronn over Gil. Perhaps Angie Curio! I would like to see Bill Press in that slot he is back East, but knows politics.

  8. Whether he preps or not, Mark Thompson is one of the most boring human beings on earth. He is ALL about listening to the sound of his own voice. And match him up with Bret Burkhart, and you have a double-dose of boring!
