Saturday Midday Schmooze

Image result for Steve Mcqueen SFSATURDAY MIDDAY SCHMOOZE

*Yeah, most certainly as I surmised the other day, the natives at KTVU are dreading, certainly, a series of cost-cutting measures and the union is powerless to do anything other than threats and hostility by the rank and file but that's never gonna work; Fox has the upper hand as they always do; Oh, by the way, the high-paid anchors and reporters are not immune to this fiscal onslaught so watch out, boys and girls.

*How sad, how unfortunate, that the current state of KFOG is completely obliterated. I don't know if anyone even listens anymore; for that matter, FM radio, but KFOG seemed to be above it all; now it's a sliver of itself mired in total lack of cohesion and sounds only relevant if played on an overhead speaker in a Berkeley record store.

*I CONTINUE to love KCSM jazz on Saturday morning with Sonny Buxton at the microphone where a Buddy Rich solo and Miles Davis entrenched at the Oakland Paramount makes the coffee taste better.

*Seriously, ask yourself: do any of you miss a blank-screen KRON or KPIX? You can watch Stephen Colbert on YouTube; KRON? Unless you get off on construction/solar panel ads, what's to miss? In the meantime two GIANT media companies dare the other to blink first; CBS wants more money to distribute its content; AT&T doesn't want to pay; they're only worth $200 Billion give or take a billion; CBS and all its properties about the same; It's YOU and ME that gets kicked in the rear end but I'm not crying.

*What's thinner? The Saturday or Tuesday printed SF Chronicle or does nobody give a damn? I thought so.

  1. I have had no problems watching KRON or KPIX, since i watch them OTA [Over The Air] in full HD. I was talking with my Aunt this morning, and she was lamenting that they are off the air. I old her I was watching them, so she is going to cut Cable TV from her bill and go with antenna and Roku like me. I found that since she watches mostly religious programs like Dr Stanley and TBN, they are all available for free on Roku, so once again, the cable companies are making more mistakes. If they hadn't been so greedy in the first place, people wouldn't be cutting the cord! I mean, I found out that my Aunt is paying $145 a month for internet, cable tv and phone! That people, is how I define obscenity!

  2. I wouldn't watch Steven Colbert on my toilet paper.

  3. I'm guessing the KPIX vs. AT&T issue is regional and not a "CBS vs. AT&T" nationwide. I seem to be getting KTVN (CBS) over my DirecTV/AT&T in Reno, NV.

And yes, these cable/internet/cell-phone/home phone bills are quite high-priced, with some channels/networks wanting to be separate, additional added costs. I'm considering going to over-the-air and AppleTV, only, next if money gets too tight.

    1. L-2; I have a neighbor who just loves gadgets! He has Roku and AppleTVs. He has TVs all over his house, and even outside in his toolshed, and all have either a Roku or AppleTV. Anyway, several years ago, he told me about Roku and I was leary, and really, just didn't really know about it. He let me borrow his to check it out. MAN! I was instantly hooked, and ordered one right away. We now have two and both me and the wife really spend almost all of our entertainment time watching Roku, with only watching regular TV for the news. If you know someone who has an extra of either of these tv devices, I highly suggest that you see if you can borrow one to check it out. Then, we will see how quickly you cut the cord!

  4. I've been streaming KPIX because I like their morning and evening news shows (minority opinion, I realize). Tonight, Brian Hackney and Juliette Goodrich announced that the guy holding his sleeping baby who caught Pablo Sandoval's homerun ball in his free hand at last night's game in San Diego is the husband of Nadia Iranpour, who used to be the weather reporter at KPIX -- nice pictures of the family showing off the ball (and the baby).

The Chronicle is almost a high school-sized newspaper at this point. They have them lying around on tables at the coffee shop I visit, and no one even picks them up.

  6. Interesting story associated with the car Steve McQueen drove in the movie Bullitt, by the way.

  7. - Phone & Cable have been opposite IQs for AT&T. They once had solid phone success; they have never had true cable success. CBS has had the best prime time network programming all millenium, even with all of the reality shows diseasing the screen. AT&T should be the one paying up; more non-phone stupidity on their part. The Giants made the right move letting AT&T leave and Oracle take over ball park sponsorship. The Redwood Shores angle helps a lot in the case of Oracle.
    - As for TP, I would never be entertained by the Hairpiece on my toilet paper. No free world leader has ever been more full of crap. No economy or party preference can excuse his abusive conduct; can't respect any abuser, no matter what seat they hold. The 24/7 high hell anxiety is not worth it. At least Colbert knows how to tell jokes, share stories, and get along with the public, even if his nerdy brand isn't for everyone.
    - KFOG is, like most terrestrial radio, a shell of itself. As for Buddy Rich & Miles Davis, it's great to hear in the autumn when the seasons change (love John Coltrane's The Love Supreme). Otherwise, in the summertime, it's all about the beach and The Boss.
    - Still awaiting the futile Oakland community outrage against The Firm. The whole city, even East Bay can vent, won't matter.
    - As long as the current EIC is still there, the Chron is not worth subscribing to.
    - One more PIX note: Brian Hackney has been relegated to news only! Shocker, Rich, Shocker! We shall see if Darren Peck's promotion to weekend weather anchor improves the newscast even slightly. Sounds like Peck can work great with the super solid Juliette Goodrich.

  8. I think because KTVN is an affiliate and not a CBS O-and-O, it's not being yanked by ATT/DirecTV

  9. I'm getting ready to cut the cord if AT&T doesn't stop playing games & get its act together! And I've told them so. I seriously can't stomach KGO's & KNTV's local nor national news. I feel like I'm stuck w/KTVU. I only watch some CBS primetime shows, their morning shows AND always Stephen Colbert.

@8:26 - So true & funny! I wouldn't even use his highness's hairpiece to clean my toilet!
